QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 05:28 PM) Couple of comments: - It was dumb to move Fields up to the #2 spot just when he was getting comfortable at the plate. There's nothing about his game that leads you to believe he'd be good in that 2 spot, and he hasn't looked good at the plate in the few games since. - .19 ERA is all that is keeping me from saying KW had a horrible offseason. I'm glad to see him moved into the 2-hole to give him a shot. We just traded away the guy who's been hitting 2nd for the last couple of years and now we need to find another. What's to lose giving Josh a shot? He handles the lumber pretty good. If he doesn't excel then you move him down. That is, if he can recover from the damage this temporary move might inflict. -

QUOTE(briguy27 @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 03:11 PM) Death Star? -
Let's blow this place up with some payback for last night's ass kicking.

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 01:13 PM) That first one really makes me miss the old park. it really was great - especially when it was rockin' with 40-50K fans.

I love these. In the dog days of a lost season it's nice to get goosebumps about our team.

what to do with Jose Contreras? -
QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 01:33 PM) especially since he gets to hang out in SoCal for the rest of the summer in a playoff race. I'll trade you, asshole. so true...
-
QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 01:21 PM) I subscribe to those white sox text messages and it sent me one that said that grindERSTAD got activated today. What does everyone think the timetable for his return to the DL is? I'll give him 3 innings.
-
I want to feel bad, but then again, he plays a game for a living.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 10:50 AM) The Yankees will win the East. not with that starting rotation
-
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 09:53 AM) Back to what you posted earlier... why aren't the Sox trying Fields in LF? Has it been tried before in the minors and failed? who's going to play 3b right now?
-
I just have to laugh. The Yankees should be sellers, not buyers. They're victims of their history, held hostage by the delusion that they should win it every year.

Any updates on Crede? is he training/rehabbing in Arizona? -
by what time tomorrow do trades have to be submitted to the commissioner's office?

QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 12:24 PM) Too bad. If only the Sox could be more consistent now... CLE and DET are looking lackluster right now, which is not to say either or both won't turn it around. But as of right now, a team 6 or 7 games back would be primed for a run at either of them. But I think Minny's too far back and playing too inconsistent to do it. I get so pissed when I look at how bad the sox played in June against all those weak ass teams. That was their chance to get back in it. If they were five or six back right now...

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 12:29 PM) With prancer, not catching flyballs, and heading balls instead of catching him, how much worse can he be. At least when he hits the ball it goes far. I hate strikeout guys as much as the next guy, but we have prospects that strikeout a lot and not hit a lot of homers. At least if you are going to swing hard for the fences, hit a dong from time to time. I don't know why you're so hard on Scotty. Did you see how quickly he scaled that wall trying to catch a ball that landed at his feet? That's some cat like reflexes right there.
-
Their rotation is in trouble, not to mention their bullpen. They can slug it out with teams to win the division or wild card, but come playoff time they're going to need the same kind of pitching they got last year. Would Kenny ever make a trade with a division rival? I'd bet we could get a lot for Garland or Javy.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 11:40 AM) It looks to be back off. i still don't understand boston's need for dye.
-
QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 11:18 AM) then keep Dye and let him play for us next year. If he leaves take the two picks and start rebuilding our wretched minor league system. Further, Pena will be gone in 2008 anyway and Delcarman will be 'just another guy' we wish was better than he is (see our current bullpen). JD is the victim of a very poor 1st half. He's obviously clicking now and starting to hit like we know he can. If he lands on a playoff team he'll get more exposure and drive up his value going into the off season. Financially, I think it's a very good move for him to get traded, although I'll be sorry to see him go.
-
I'm really surprised the Angels aren't making a push for Dye. Despite their offensive outburst over the weekend, they need someone to protect Vlad in the lineup. Stoneman's going to have a lot to answer for if they come up short again this season.
