  1. QUOTE(Linnwood @ Jul 12, 2007 -> 07:24 PM) Good start to the second-half... Sadly it doesn't seem to matter if the offense wakes up if the bullpen DEWON DAY remains so bad.
  2. they came out showing some real life. it's a long second half, but this is a great way to get it started! (that, and saying so long to day)
  3. how has Charlie been pitching?
  4. QUOTE(JohnCangelosi @ Jul 12, 2007 -> 01:05 AM) Take a look at our current outfield: 23 Jermaine Dye R/R 6-5 240 01/28/74 26 Andy Gonzalez R/R 6-2 190 12/15/81 10 Rob Mackowiak L/R 5-11 195 06/20/76 7 Jerry Owens L/L 6-3 190 02/16/81 30 Luis Terrero Do you see one GOOD player in there? Pretty tough to win with this group as well as how our bullpen has performed. one good player? Jermaine Dye. A great player. Has he played good in the first half? Absolutely not. But you have only to look at the last two years to see what he's capable of doing. Whether or not he has a good second half is the question. But he's not washed up like many around here would have you believe.
  5. QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 11, 2007 -> 09:29 PM) Man it could get REALLY ugly quick. that's my fear...but I like the fact that we ended the first half on a high note. Guys got a much needed rest and a chance to put the first half to rest. At least that's my hope. I'm not saying they're going to make a run. I just want to see a competetive team.
  6. this opening road trip may well dash any lingering hopes - 4 @ BAL (where Guthrie and Bedard are dealing), 3 @ CLE, 4 @ BOS. Then they get to catch their breath with 5 at home against DET! That's 16 games that takes us up to very near the trade deadline. 10-6 would be respectable, IMO, but not enough to raise any hopes of a dramatic run. For that we'd have to see 13-3 or thereabouts, and that's just hitting the pipe too hard.
  7. If only we were better than the three teams in front of us... If I had to pick a team in front of us to stumble it would be the tribe.
  8. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 12:51 PM) I honestly dont see a huge drop off defensively when fields is playing, not to mention the offensive potential. I would NEVER want to put Josh in the OF, his spot is 3B and he is the future for this org at that position. To me, it's a pretty dramatic drop off. Not only does Josh not have the range he doesn't have the ability to complete the play even if he does make a dramatic snag. I don't want to sound like I'm coming down on him because I love his talent and surprising speed. I think he could be a tremendous outfielder if he learned the position. I don't know that he'll ever be one of the top 3b's in the league, as crede is (when healthy).
  9. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 09:23 AM) He's quite possibly the least knowledgeable radio personality I have ever heard. He's also a complete asshole who should have been fired long ago. I don't know how anyone who knows anything about any sport could stand that guy. He's completely clueless. When the Sox were playing the Astros in the world series, he remarked "I'd rather watch Al Roker's gastric bipass surgery." He's a clueless tool who worships pro and college football.
  10. one glance at the upcoming schedule in July and August, I have to laugh. I'll be happy if they don't lose any more ground, much less make up ground.
  11. interesting. I wonder if he won't be back to spell Danks later in the season, once his pitch count gets up there.
  12. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 10:12 AM) hopefully I'd rather see Crede return healthy and then re-sign him and move Fields to the outfield. Defenders of Crede's caliber don't come around very often, and healthy, I still think he's a .300/30/100 guy for a few years to come. The operative word of course is "healthy."
  13. QUOTE(Maverick0984 @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 06:35 AM) I thought they both were. I thought he might be back in August, but wasn't sure. Sounds like Crede could be back in late August or September. Just in time for the playoff run.
  14. Question: does anyone think the distraction of Buehrle contract talks have contributed to the recent stretch of good play by the sox? Despite the popular notion that distractions like this can hurt a team, I feel like it took the focus off a dismal performance and maybe even some of the pressure. Curious to hear what others think.
  15. The delayed strike call on Iguchi was the only hiccup I noticed. Congrats to your cousin on making it to the bigs. I've met the Runge's (three generations of umps) on a few occasions - umps are pretty colorful guys with thick skin and great stories.
  16. when is Pablo expected to be back?
  17. QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 02:37 PM) Garland would have more value going to a team in a pennant race. If he is not traded during this season, he'll be here next year, and I do not expect him to be shipped off. I would say it is 75% that Count is gawn! If he's healthy, then a shrewd GM will go get him, because he's a strong second half pitcher and I wouldn't expect that to change this year. Yeah, he's a year older, but that doesn't explain what's happening with him. Mechanics are fowled and his track record suggests that he'll turn it around. I just hope we don't dump him for nothing.
  18. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 02:41 PM) What I'd give for either Kemp or Ethier. I love watching Ethier play
  19. anybody ever notice how much Buehrle sounds like Elvis when he lowers his voice?
  20. I wonder how much fan support influenced the decision to get something done.
  21. I had the game on mute - when I saw Buehrle waving to the crowd I figured kenny had traded him, then they cut to a shot of the scoreboard announcement. congrats, sox fans
  22. QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 06:27 AM) You need to get more guys like Danks in here, and build from there. Just the math alone doesn't work build what exactly? A middling team that competes or a championship team? Two years removed from a title, are they still a win now franchise? The Sox don't find themselves in this position because they have too much money tied up with a few players, they are in this position because they made some serious errors in evaluating talent. 2005 should've been a revelation for this team - that a stout rotation and decent bullpen can overcome a lot of shortcomings in other areas. What really makes me laugh is that if Buehrle had the same exact career numbers but did it with a 95mph fastball in his arsenal then no one would ever question his status as a number one or "ace."
  23. QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 10:04 PM) Tomorrow everything is gonna hit the fan... Once all the Chicago Media outlets wake up and get their hands on this story being reported by ESPN... the s*** is gonna hit the fan. I want a White Sox Winner, and KW to say sorry for being a jag, and resign MB.
