  1. I think this pen is suspect. Yeah, they throw hard, but they also walk too many. That's the death of any bullpen.
  2. Most improved: Joe Crede. Monster year coming, serious MVP candidate. Most disappointing: Bobby Jenks and the bullpen overall. Despite the re-working, this guys wind up walking too many. X-factor: Darin Erstad. I think he and Pods are going to spark the top of the lineup and give the big bats a ton of RBI's.
  3. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 7, 2007 -> 03:53 PM) In a couple of years, Josh Fields is going to make everyone say to themselves... Joe who? and then they'll say, oh, you mean the guy who had that clutch dinger against the indians in '05? Or the double off the wall with two strikes against the Angels?
  4. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 05:51 PM) Updated for the Vazquez deal: http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/5161/so...actsheetwf9.jpg thanks for posting that, it's a great guide.
  5. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 08:11 PM) Where was he during the first 10 years of his duty? Last year the Twins didn't take off until they dumped the dead weight that people KNEW were crappy signings (Loshe, Bautista, Juan Castro, and White got hurt.) Right. He won the division 4 out of the last 5 years with one of the lowest payrolls in the league. Not to mention the AJ trade to SF, possibly one of the best/worst trades ever. The twins have an organizational mentality that starts in low A and works its way to the majors. I hate them for many reasons, but respect the hell out of them at the same time.
  6. How the hell Terry Ryan came in so low I'll never know. He's the best in MLB.
  7. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 05:42 PM) Is it wrong to hope Pods is hurt come opening day so we don't have a Pods-Erstad-Dye OF? If he still has the same shoulder and groin problems that he had last year, then most definitely.
  8. rob neyer and cleveland fans. thanks for posting that. It is very funny. Someone might have reminded him that the Sox don't need to improve a whole hell of a lot on a 90 win season. Pick up one win more a month and they'll be sitting pretty come October. but let's not let facts get in the way of spring bliss.
  9. Anyone else get the feeling that the big story this season is going to be Joe Crede? I just have this feeling that he's going to be a .300/40/100 guy, win a gold glove and be a serious candidate for MVP. A solid player like Joe is likely to have one of those seasons where they put it all together and just go off, not that they'll sustain it through their career.
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 07:46 PM) I think anyone trying to defend Ozzie for not being malicious in his comments should listen to the interview. I read about the interview, but it's totally different when you hear it directly from his mouth. don't you think "malicious" is just a little overboard? You're making more out of this then it is. McCarthy's an unproven talent who chose to bad mouth a clubhouse that he was priviliged enough to share with a world series team as a rook. Ozzie is sticking up for that clubhouse and the players. If you're looking for "no comment" from Guillen then you're kidding yourself. BMac comes off sounding like a resentful punk who got traded from his favorite team. I look forward to rooting against him now and hope he gets shelled.
  11. QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 12:45 PM) Why does this board and a lot of Sox fans in general have to take every single comment Ozzie says and completely overreact to it?? Many here are in the clubhouse day in and day out and have inside knowledge of what's REAL rather than mere fan speculation. Or at least, that's my impression. I don't care who Ozzie Guillen offends as long as he keeps winning. I'm silly like that.
  12. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 12:26 PM) if anderson is not the starter for this team this year and/or next year, ozzie HAS to go. he is going to ruin one of our best young players. if that guy is one of our "best" then we're in serious trouble
  13. QUOTE(pcullotta @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 08:48 AM) Nope, not even on Gameday Audio today. I think it is on gameday audio. Tune in, check out, 12pm PT.
  14. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Feb 28, 2007 -> 07:31 PM) They could be great, they could be awful. While I'm hoping for great, I'm definitely prepared for awful. If Buehrle doesn't bounce back we're toast. Javy is going to be Javy and with any luck, maybe a little better than he was last year. I'm not looking for miraculous turnarounds from that guy. The 5th spot is a huge, gaping question mark. Could work out fine. Could be a disaster a la Danny Wrong.
  15. "The earned run average looks like an important date in history..." LOL!
  16. hope bobby just felt something funny and decided not to risk it.
  17. QUOTE(Reddy @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 03:40 PM) ... are you serious? they have the best lineup in the game... Pitching, especially in the NL, is a premium for winning, and the Mets just don't have it. How old is Glavine anyway?
  18. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 10:28 AM) I just dont see Anderson being sent down. It will not happen. a championship is not riding on the performance of Brian Anderson, so I would tend to agree. But if he can't earn a spot on the team then there's no reason to have him riding the pine and platooning.
  19. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 03:41 PM) They're in win-now mode. ...with El Duque their 2nd starter...
  20. I do know this: the lineup is set and may well be the same on Opening Day. Erstad, LF Iguchi, 2B Thome, DH PK, 1B Dye, RF AJ, C Crede, 3B Anderson, CF Uribe, SS
  21. The METS?? With that pitching staff? Trading for talent at the break? They'll be DUMPING talent at the break as they settle into a last place battle with the Nats. Braves, Philly and Marlins are all better than the Mets. Buster. What a douche.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 12:26 AM) What's this all about? taking a shot at a malicious rumor...
  23. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 03:37 PM) Gavin Floyd is older than McCarthy and gave up homers at a higher pace than McCarthy did last year. Kenny Williams has zero interest in Floyd's sister
  24. It's interesting to hear that Broadway is making some noise early on. Of course, the hitters are far behind the pitchers right now. QUOTE(fathom @ Feb 25, 2007 -> 11:06 AM) Aardsma is definitely my pick for most disappointing player this year. Ahead of Sisco? For all his talent, he was never able to get outs consistently in KC.
