I think it's going to be a great division with terrific battles and many lead changes throughout the season between Sox, kitties, tribe and twins. Best division in all of baseball, hands down.
-
I'd like the trade better if I had more faith in the sox brain trust to identify quality prospects without confusing them with what turns out to be very mediocre material. The bullpen certainly has the potential to be very, very good. Feels like they need a veteran in there however, someone to show the way and develop the identity. We'll see. Weird winter so far. Makes no sense to keep Buehrle at this point when they obviously have no intention of re-signing him.

Ross Gload Traded For Andrew Sisco
The Ginger Kid replied to Ozzie's Accent's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think the Royals and their fans are going to be most impressed by the play of Ross Gload. So goes Pods, so goes the White Sox offense. The first half of '05, the second half of '05 and all of '06. The Sox won 75% of the games in which he had at least one hit. We can only hope that he's due for a bounce back. -
I found it pretty funny that the Tiger fans are scooping up their '06 season DVD's. Granted, they made it to the WS and that's a hell of an accomplishment...but a DVD commemorating a season in which you blew a huge lead, lost the division on the last day while getting swept by the worst team in baseball and then choking humongously in the WS hardly seems worth watching...again.

Eric Gagne for two years.

Atlanta Braves just do what they do, but win it more often

Garcia to Philly for Gavin Floyd and Gio Gonzalez
The Ginger Kid replied to BobDylan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 09:26 AM) I repeat BMAC in the rotation>Garcia in the rotation. We get better immediately this year. ANd with the spects, next year. Its pretty black and white people. Freddy won 17 games. BMac will have to have one helluva first full year as a starter to top that. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 07:32 PM) Well, thanks for the memories Freddy. I only hope your 88 mph is still in style next year. What about the 92 mph fastball he featured in September when he appeared to get stronger? This is a terrible trade. We could've gotten Figgins for Freddy straight up and even that would've been bad but not nearly as bad as this. -
Allow me to close my eyes and visualize the following middle of the order... Thome Kong Bonds Dye (okay, opening eyes and laughing)

Scott Podsednik Re-Signs with White Sox
The Ginger Kid replied to Colorado Sox Fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I sincerely believe Jerry Owens will beat him out of a starting job come spring training, that's if Pods is still around. However, Pods is one of the hardest workers on the team. I would imagine he'll be on a mission to erase the memories of last season's failures at the plate. As for his defense... -
With PK's bad back, I'm glad we got a reliable defensive backup.

Sox & Angels Talking; Crede/Garcia for Santana/Figgins
The Ginger Kid replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Watching Crede play in another uniform will probably be very painful. I hated it when Ventura left, that hurt big time. But this will be even worse. -
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 23, 2006 -> 05:29 PM) I bet Pods is better than he was last year if he starts back here, just going off of a hunch. They very well may use him as a stopgap solution for at least half a year until Sweeney/Fields are ready. good point. He probably will be better. I still think if someone shines in spring training and forces a decision by ozzie, pods could find his ass on the bench.
-
While I still think KW will go out and find another outfielder, I wonder if there's any chance that it ill come down to a tryout between Owens, Pods, Sweeney, Anderson and Fields in Spring Training for the 2 outfield spots...?
-
"yay"? He's a whiney douche bag who said he wanted to see "anybody but the White Sox in the playoffs." They'll be wearing parkas in hell before I root for that tool.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 10:18 AM) Defensively, Figgins is an above average center fielder. He'd figure to be the best LF in the game if he played there all year. He'd be a defensive upgrade of 10-15 runs a year. Their batting lines are a wash, but Figgins has more upside than does Pods. On the bases, it's not close. Pods has lost 2 steps, not one, and Figgins is an elite basestealer. This season there was a difference of 20 net-stolen-bases between the two, which works out to about 10 runs. So even if their bats are a wash, Figgins is 20-25 runs better than Podsednik, which works out to about 2 wins in the standings. Factor in that Figgins still has some room to improve with the bat, and you could easily make the case for Figgins being 3-5 wins better than Pods. Well worth the upgrade. Figgins is terrible at third, but he's a very good CFer, and he has a decent arm. It's not a canon, but it's very good for a little guy. WAY WAY better than Pods. He's not terrible at 3b but he doesn't belong there. I've seen him make some pretty dazzling plays however. The trouble is the Angels move him around too much. Put him in one position and let him play the year there and I think you'll see him take off. He's an excellent bunter and dynamite on the basepaths.

QUOTE(Reddy @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 10:42 AM) KW's gotta have a reason for doing this... I would wager that it has something to do with the fact that Neal sucked BAD last year. He was nuclear. I'm glad we got something for him. Thanks for '05 and don't let the door hit you...

When will the Yankees come calling?
The Ginger Kid replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I like the Mets trade idea. Deal Javy, keep the rest and add BMac. Kenny's right, they couldn't have played much worse and still won 90 games. A few tweaks here and there and we're set to make another run, IMO. -
QUOTE(hi8is @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 11:41 AM) holy f***ing s*** that would rock for me! glendale is only about 20 minutes away muhahahahahha Glendale, Arizona.
-
Maroth has never lived up to the hype and with a bad elbow I doubt he ever will. but who knows, maybe he can actually field his position. That would be a bonus in that rotation.
-
I thought Jamie Walker found sox fans to be crude and annoying...
-
I hope Kenny only deals for proven and effective pitchers, starting and relieving. By the way, anyone know the most innings BMac has logged in a season? Seems like he's a prime candidate for an August fade.
-
I think it's a great trade for Detroit and just made them the favorite to win the central in '07.

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Nov 5, 2006 -> 01:30 AM) They call him "Diablo". This is all it said: "Logan has returned home with stiffness in his arm". I read that it was stiffness in his LEFT shoulder...which is weird. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 04:54 PM) I know I for one wouldn't want to have to go to Venezuela for a month to play baseball if I was coming off a long minor league season already (in fact if I were a top prospect I wouldn't, now if I were fringe I may just suck it up). I graduated from high school in Venezuela (dad worked for an oil company down there). Anti-gringo sentiment aside, it's nicer than you might imagine, particularly for American baseball players. We used to see them at the nice hotel bars having a pretty damn good time. Venezuelans worship good baseball players.

USA TODAY BASEBALL WEEKLY TRADE SUGGESTION
The Ginger Kid replied to winninguglyin83's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Drew @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 11:25 PM) Of course USA Today makes that trade. They're Yankee fans, and they get a lot better than we do because of this trade. EXACTLY! also, don't overlook the clutch factor. I'd rather have Joe Crede at the plate needing a big hit than ARod any day of the week.
