  1. All the more reason to cheer for Detroit's demise. I'll bet the Yankees are kicking themselves for not noticing this. Tapes show that he had it on his hand in the ALDS and ALCS. Rogers is a first class piece of s***.
  2. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 21, 2006 -> 10:01 PM) If the Cards were going to win a game I thought it'd be this one. I expect Detroit to win the next 4. I agree. I can see Weaver gone in 3 innings and a blow out tomorrow night. They get up with the gambler on the bump. but i would also add that it would be so sweet to watch the kitties go into the tank....
  3. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 09:39 AM) It would shock me. A, the A's aren't gonna spend a ton of money for a manager (especially when they are already paying Macha 2 mill) and B, Baker isn't going to just sit there and be told what to do by Beane. If I were a proven mgr (and Baker is that, even though he didn't actually do that great with the Cubs) there is absolutely no way I'd take the A's job. In fact, I'd do all I could not to take that job, unless my only other choice was something like the Dray job. For what it's worth, someone I know is developing a film project with LaRussa based on Three Nights in August. Word is that LaRussa will not be back next year with the Cards and would like the job in San Francisco.
  4. I say ditch the wild card, the team with the best record in the league gets a bye in the first round and plays the winner of the division series, which should remain best of 5.
  5. Starting in LF and leading off for the 2007 Chicago White Sox: JERRY LEE OWENS
  6. the early reports on this story make absolutely no sense. should be interesting to hear some of the facts. I'm just hoping we aren't treated to shots of Juan in a festering jail cell (think Urbina).
  7. QUOTE(rventura23 @ Oct 15, 2006 -> 08:45 PM) why is this spanish website the only place to run this story, if it were true wouldnt it pick up more press? here you go, from the Trib: link White Sox shortstop Juan Uribe and his brother are being investigated in the Dominican Republic for their alleged involvement in the shooting of two men, according to El Nacional newspaper. No one was killed in the incident, which took place Friday night in San Cristobal, about 15 miles from Uribe's hometown of Bani. According to the newspaper, the two victims suffered wounds but were released from a hospital. According to a police report, Uribe and his brother, Elpidio, thought the victims had walked too close to their Jeep. Dondolin Alessandro, 41, a captain in the Italian Navy, suffered wounds to his stomach and hands. Antonio Gonzalez Perez, a farmer who tried to intervene, suffered a left-elbow injury, according to the paper. Alessandro was in the Dominican on a humanitarian mission, the newspaper reported. A White Sox spokesman said Sunday night that the team had been in contact with Uribe's agent and would not comment until more information had been collected. Telephone messages were left for Martin Arbrurua, who represents Uribe. Col. Gabriel Santos Melo and Mayor De La Cruz Blanquin are in charge of the investigation, the newspaper said. The incident occurred two weeks after general manager Ken Williams endorsed Uribe as his shortstop for next season. Uribe, 27, is coming off a disappointing 2006 in which he committed more errors (14) than he drew walks (13). Uribe hit .235 with 21 homers but had only a .257 on-base percentage. He is scheduled to earn $4.15 million next season, with the Sox holding a $5 million option or $300,000 buyout for 2008.
  8. has anyone else noticed that Jose Valentin looks considerably thinner than in his playing days with the Sox?
  9. I think it sucks that yet again we come off the all-star game with a long road trip, 4 @ BAL, 3@ CLE and 4 @ BOS. ouch then it's home for 4 vs. DET feels like it's setting us up for another dramatic second half dive.
  10. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 01:11 PM) Reality check. The Yankees wouldn't even consider Crede+McCarthy for ARod. Do you think the Yankees want to trade production for potential? Because the value of Crede and McCarthy is basically all potential. Crede has had one good season. And it was just good, certainly not great (.323 OBP and .506 SLG isn't great). McCarthy has had a handful of good starts in the majors and a bad 2005 season. Crede + McCarthy Crede + Garcia + Broadway That's the reality folks, and Cashman knows it. but Cashman's an idiot, so we have that going for us. (evidence: the biggest problem with his club is lack of pitching yet he continually pursues all-star sluggers then can't make it out of the first round when good pitching defeats good hitting)
  11. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 06:41 PM) ^Plus Soriano has more speed and power. a-rod's going to walk away from the game with over 700 career home runs.
  12. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 08:22 AM) I think it's become pretty evident to everyone that the Tigers will win the WS. I agree. They've got that "team of destiny" look about them. Back to back WS champs from the AL Central.
  13. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Oct 5, 2006 -> 08:57 PM) It rotates. And thank god its gone. thanks, I've been trying to find that out for awhile. Hopefully it's on its way to Detroit and Minny...
  14. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 11:15 AM) If we're going to pencil him into the bullpen, he should stay in the bullpen. Don't dick around in the spring...if we're following the BMac path with him, then start him off in the bullpen, work him out of the bullpen, and give him enough innings out of the bullpen. If we're going to trade away 2 starters and pencil him in for a role in the rotation, that's different. If someone gets hurt, we have another backup option at AAA already in Broadway who we can call up next year if we wind up needing him. If we start him in the bullpen, he pencils in as the 7th starter, not the 6th. I have very high hopes for Senor Broadway, too. If Haeger does shine this spring then maybe a late trade wouldn't be a bad option. It's just so damn hard to judge pitching down in Tucson.
  15. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 09:59 AM) These Brian Anderson debates are quite comical. Personally, I don't think he's going to be a star hitter. YES, I do believe in time he will be a decent hitter, generally in the mid .200s (.245-.260)....give or take bad and good years. I'm one of the Brian "critics" and I think he'll be an all-star in the next few years. I think he could break out at any time and hit for average with respectable power. His defense speaks for itself and as his arm gets stronger he's going to be a force in CF. The trouble is that some think that Ozzie kept him from achieving that status this year.
  16. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 10:52 AM) I would have said the exact same thing before we saw Haeger succeed quite well out of the bullpen in September. I wouldn't mind seeing him get some starts this spring. You never know...
  17. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 7, 2006 -> 10:11 PM) The Twins season next year is pretty dependant on Liriano imo. If he's healthy they're going to be pretty darn good again, if he's not, they wont even be a thought. Radke is going to retire and Matt Garza is going to be a disappointment. Oh ya, Jason Tyner isn't going to hit .312 again, Jason Bartlett isn't going to hit .309 again, hell Nick Punto will not hit .290 again. If the Twins win it's going to be on the arms of the two studs at the top, only problem for them is I doubt Liriano can make it through a whole season healthy. I still think Mauer's knee could be an issue as time goes on.
  18. knuckleballers out of the pen scare me -- too many walks and if that floater don't drop...see ya
  19. A's in 6. I think this will be a great series. Kitties got their mojo back (ie, their pitching). But with the way they celebrated beating the yankees, you'd think they'd won it all.
  20. QUOTE(loltrain @ Oct 7, 2006 -> 07:21 PM) *plays Journey and participates in TNA Wrestling events* you made my case so much better than I could.
  21. QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 12:17 AM) GO A'S! Screw the Tigers and (ha-ha!) Twins. Joe Torre is now available, by the way, if you believe the NY Daily News.
  22. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Oct 7, 2006 -> 02:55 PM) I just lost a little respect for Detroit when the started playing "Whoomp there it is!" when the score rose to 6-0. If I had any respect for Tiger fans I would agree.
  23. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 10:31 AM) So, when Anderson improved, and Mackowiak got worse, what happened? Ozzie gave Mack more playing time, not less. We had a stretch in August, a key stretch, 7 games against Detroit and the Twins. What happens? Ozzie plays Mack in CF 4 out of the first 6 games, and we wind up being beaten up pretty badly, and at least a couple of those games, Mack's defense gave up key runs. And it just kept happening. Since I've been accused of ignoring stats, let's take a look. The Sox went 16-13 in August. Of the 29 games played in August, Brian started in 21 of those. He did not play at all in only 3 games. In those 13 losses, Brian started in 9 of them, did not play or PH late in 4. In that crucial stretch of 6 vs. Minny and 4 vs. Detroit (10 games), the Sox went 4-6. BA actually started in 3 of the first 6 games. Of the ten games, BA started in 5, and the Sox lost 3 of those. Mack went 4 for 12 when he started, BA went 6 for 17, statistically pretty even. In those first 6 games the Sox went 2-4. We won 2 of the 3 games that Mack started, lost all 3 that Brian started. Of the 8 games that Mack started instead of BA in August, the Sox went 4-4. He hit .269. The best argument for Brian is in the 21 games he started in August in which the Sox won, he hit .357. Laying the blame at the feet of Mack is a fallacy, IMO, particularly when we know that starting pitching and the bullpen killed the season.
  24. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 5, 2006 -> 04:35 PM) You really shouldn't even bother debating it with people anymore. There will always be the few on here who will bring no real reasoning, logic or stats to their comments and make statements like that. It's not very hard to just make a comment like that, it's incredibly difficult to back up however so you'll likely only see a few posts like that in every thread with no rebuttal to criticizm because they're not interested in backing up their asinine comments. Nice try. Ozzie made him the starter coming out of spring training, for one. He chooses who will start and who will sit (regardless of what many may believe). When Brian slumped right out of the gate (with the exception of opening day) Ozzie made the decision to stay with him and not send him down or bench him. It was a very real possibility that Brian was going to get sent down. You may recall there were several articles on this subject in the Chicago press last June. Kenny supported that decision. You might also check some of Brian's comments about the conversation he had with Kenny and Ozzie, how it bolstered his confidence. In an effort to protect Brian he started using Rob in CF more, sacrificing defense to try and provide more pop to a sluggish lineup. Do you honestly think Ozzie Guillen doesn't realize that Mack is weaker at defense than BA? It's for this reason, I believe, that Brian was able to have a strong second half. He's a rookie on a world series team and he admitted that he was floundering and struggling to stay positive. So I guess that makes me asinine. But you, you're a genius who knows so much more about baseball than anyone on these boards and obviously more than a guy who played it professionally his entire life and managed a team to a championship in only his second season. Bravo.
  25. Does anyone know if QuesTec is now a permanent fixture at the Cell or was that a one year thing?
