I caught a screaming Frank Thomas home run during the all star home run derby in Baltimore, '93. I'm still waitng for the feeling to come back.

QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 11:22 AM) Thats one helluva job of general managing... I don't care how bad Todd Richie was Truly. It's why he's the best, IMO. And Ritchie wasn't his fault.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 08:09 PM) Right now, we have a better chance of winning the Wild Card than the AL Central. with 45 games left and 7 against the team we trail by five in the loss column, it still seems like a defeatist concession. I'll root for the Yankees to beat the carmines and hope we pick up games in the WC then, but not now when the division is still a realistic and preferred means of reaching the post season. Which is not to say you're not rooting for the Sox to win the division, cause I'm sure you are.

Rowand's steroid use aside... projected matchups next week: Contreras vs. Verlander Buehrle vs. Rogers Garcia vs. Miner Garland vs. Robertson (kind of glad we dodge bonderman -- he's nails at home) This weekend in the tinky winky dome: Garcia vs. Bonser Garland vs. Radke Vazquez (sheep) vs. Santana (wolf)

I apologize if this has already been answered, but was Crede hurt?

QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 06:42 PM) detroit sure bounced back quickly are we the only team with their number this year goddamn as long as we stay that way, all will be well. seriously, I think we'll be 2.5 back going into Friday's action at the HHH

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 06:20 PM) I suspect Gload will get some playing time tonight. hope you're right. I thought maybe he got stuck in immigration after the trip to Toronto.

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 01:21 PM) I seriously hope we stop pitching to this guy. especially Garland...he OWNS Garland

I'm sure Sweeny will make a solid transition just like Anderson, so there's no reason to keep JD.

We had a magical run from our pitchers last year and I don't think anyone expected them to duplicate that, which is why KW tried to bolster the offense and not lean so heavily on the starters. When it comes down to a playoff type situation in the regular season, it's hard to imagine that the last 6 games don't fit that bill. Our starters stepped up for the most part and the team won 5 of 6. To me, that's a very encouraging sign.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 13, 2006 -> 08:32 PM) I'm rooting for the Tigers to sweep. wow. I'm dumbfounded by this sentiment and it seems to be pretty pervasive. I guess the scars of July still linger. I'm rooting for the Sox to win the division and have the best record in the AL and homefield throughout the playoffs and world series. Call me crazy. I seriously think the Sox could be in the midst of a 9-10 game win streak right now. I also think the Tigers are on the ropes and I want them to stay there. If this were the last week of the season and the Sox were all but mathematically eliminatd from winning the division, then I would root otherwise. Texas is playing good ball right now and the kitties host them for 4 games starting Thursday. I think they will get a split, at best. If we go into the HHH dome and deal I seriously believe the Sox could be in first place in the division going into the four game series at Detroit next week. How could you want it any other way? Resigning yourself to the WC after a sweep of Detroit? yikes.
-
ozzie says he's worried about a let down and Konerko says it would only be natural after two big series like they just had. It's up to Jon to see that it doesn't happen. (a glance up at the scoreboard to see Detroit losing wouldn't hurt either!)

Anyone catch Jeff Brantley's "analysis" of the situation? First, he tells Tiger fans not to worry, that this will pass and they'll be fine and win the division. Then, in response to a question about the Red Sox, he said essentially the same thing in the same dismissive manner, stating that the Red Sox will re-group and be the wild card. So without saying it directly, he said the White Sox will miss the playoffs. Hee hee. He's just such a useless tool.

As long as the tigers pitching remains solid, which it has even during this five game losing streak, they will be fine. However, if it should suffer the same bug as their clutch hitting has.....

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 07:33 PM) Great pitch selection on the 3-2 to Granderson. this has got to be a big boost of confidence for him

we could use some more runs. Detroit can score 5 in a hurry.
