  1. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 10:04 AM) And Jon Garland's people have broken off all negotiations with the White Sox. He wants to play on the West Coast 2 years from now.
  2. QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 06:29 AM) Agree. And the guy has a history, unlike Jon to date, of getting the job done. here here. I say even if he chooses not to sign a new deal you keep him. The Count was simply the best pitcher in the 2nd half and a stud in the playoffs. Make another championship run with him and worry about it next November.
  3. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 11:13 AM) its the slider he loves. but he's been throwing that curve so much more it seems. I never thought he needed anything but the heater and the slider. Remember how devastating that combo was in the WS?
  4. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 11:07 AM) Unless that reliever is Brad Lidge. Here's a total odd ball thing to throw out, but what would people think about a package surrounded by Krod. I doubt the Angels would even listen, however, Krod has had some durability issues and the Angels could turn Escobar into there closer. Shields would obviously be great, but we'd have to get a front line prospect along with him and I can't see the Angels doing that. Stoneman never gives up prospects and instead he's always just sitting and waiting for guys to develop. Thats why Angel fans are going to have to watch Jose Focking Molina be there everyday catcher. wow. I love that idea. Maybe Cooper could convince him to start throwing the fastball more. When did he fall so in love with his curve ball?
  5. QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 11:10 AM) Except, of course, Billy Beane. And don't forget Mark Shapiro -- the brilliant executive of the year who can't even re-sign his best pitcher or a closer and instead will have Bob Wickman anchoring the bullpen. Sweet. Moronotti's a tool but he's right on this one. The Yankee's late 90s early 00 dynasty was done with constant re-tooling every year. Heroes like Jim Leyritz were replaced but a core remained. I'm not ready to make any bold predictions, especially in a division as competetive as the central, but the Sox could clearly be set up for a similar run. Or they could be the '85 Bears.
  6. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 03:33 AM) This all goes back to the Jose Contreras argument. Jose Contreras in the 1st half of 2005 had the same problem, he wasn't winning his games. But was that his fault? No, and you know why? Run Support. the reason the count had a bad first half is because he sucked in the first half - he didn't trust his fastball and got himself in big trouble. He basically said as much. It wasn't coincidence that he had a strong second half - he finally started listening to AJ and Coop.
  7. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 01:37 AM) Wins are overrated. Just look at Millwood's numbers from last season. 2.86 ERA 9-11 W-L A pitcher can't earn wins if his offense doesn't score any runs for him. so following this logic, Millwood would've been a WORSE pitcher had he had, let's say, a 3.86 ERA but gone 15-5. Gee, I wonder which the Indians would've preferred.
  8. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 05:27 PM) Wins do not a good pitcher make. If you say so. The Tigers were a great hitting team last year with some pretty decent pitching. They'll be much better this year. Even a disinterested Jim Leyland is better than Trammel and most other managers in the league. Mags will be there the whole season. I think they'll be very competetive in the AL central, by far the best division in baseball. Weird, isn't it?
  9. QUOTE(AirScott @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 04:28 AM) you forgot the LA riots...and the scumville they call "Hollywood". Yeah, it sucks out here. I'm taking off work tomorrow to play golf. In shorts. You?
  10. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 12:47 PM) It's not gonna happen. Frank, if healthy, still has a lot left in the tank. He should go somewhere where he's really needed and can help somebody. Like the Angels.
  11. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 11:29 AM) I don't know who reported that one, but it's a crock of s***. LA times reported it
  12. Joe's a freak but knows his sports. I like his show and he does have history of breaking stories.
  13. QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 02:15 PM) & KW almost gave JG & PK for Randy Johnson 2 years ago only to have AZ GM say wasnt enough to deal for.... Amazing...I had forgotten about that!
  14. ESPN radio and the LA Times are reporting 5 years 60 mil
  15. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 27, 2005 -> 04:16 PM) I hope your right Jordan! We need him back. I heard on a local talk show this weekend that he's leaning toward the Angels. Yikes. Apparently they don't want any of Manny's troubles and are ready to throw some serious cash at Paulie, one of those offers he can't refuse. Anyone else hear this?
  16. QUOTE(Pierzynski 12 @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 01:29 PM) I don't wanna see Rowand go. It'll hurt less in a few weeks. Then, after the first of the year, when you meet Thome at Soxfest it will get a little better. Then in spring training you will be healed. At least that's what I'm telling myself. He's a hard worker and a guy who's going to get better before he gets worse and I can't say the same for Thome. He's past his prime.
  17. IMHO, the Count will win the cy young next year.
  18. wow...crede really stayed back on that one. His head never moved. Sweet swing. Mercy.
  19. Thome's great but the Sox don't need the power bat. They need more speed. I pray KW doesn't give up pitching if this deal goes through. Let's not forget why the Sox won the WS.
  20. I still laugh when I picture him slapping the ball out of Arroyo's glove. It's a shame the best player in baseball is such a total jag. Oh well.
  21. 40 HR 100 RBI Gold Glove defense Team Leader and hardest working guy in the organization what's it worth?
  22. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 05:35 PM) Why do I have a feeling KW, deep down inside, really did kind of want this award? He said the PC thing. And what he said was his first goal was what the truth. I'm with you -- he's a competetive guy and who doesn't want praise? What's more, he deserves it!! Oh well, yet another reason to dislike the Indians...as if I had room for anymore.
  23. Per Phil Rogers, who's at the GM meeting in Palm Springs: That's a bit steep. I say congrats to you Paulie, take it if you can get it. Link
  24. Sporting News has named Mark Shapiro of the World Champion Cleveland Indians the 2005 Executive of the year. wow. Kenny, not only are you Exec of the Year, you are the man. Nuff said.

    Milton

PARADISE LOST is terrific once you get the hang of the vernacular (sort of like reading/hearing Shakespeare, it takes a bit to get the rhythm). Not that it matters, but the story just got the greenlight to be a feature film. Milton would've enjoyed it...had he not gone blind. That's bad, I'm sorry.
