Garland either can't or won't challenge this line up. He looks scared for some reason. -

Garland vs. Benoit. This shouldn't even be close. Way to step up, Jon. -

QUOTE(spiderman @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 01:07 PM) Who is starting the 1st game for the White Sox ? Garland. Man, it's HOT, HOT, HOT in Dallas today. 98 is supposed to be the high. AJ and Widger are gonna be whipped for tomorrow. -
QUOTE(Colorado Sox Fan @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 11:21 AM) Quoting Doug Buffone...now that's a genius move. One of my favorite Bears! He used to be a member of the Bears basketball team that travelled in the winter playing charity games, anyone remember those? Roland Harper was a stud basketball player. So was Sweetness, of course.

Dumb question: where the hell did they get a frying pan so fast? Herm Schneider's equipment bag?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 12:39 PM) I'd call it a good balance of planning for both today and tomorrow. When I hear KW saying "1917, 1917" I tend to believe that there is no concern for tomorrow. Obviously I don't expect him to dump top prospects for some middle-aged journeyman home run threat. But win it now (dare I say, win or die trying?) seems to be what I hear coming from management. And I think they're right. But I also think if the lead would've been 3-4 games in July you would've seen a more aggressive move on the part of the Sox. That's all. I just found it sort of ironic that there could possibly be a downside to a 12 game lead in July. Not saying there is, just that there could be.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 12:18 PM) So there is no chance that KC or Anaheim can beat us? We lost 2 of 3 at KC last time we played them. The king of pessimism has spoken Of course there's a chance. Just as the Sox could lose their next nine in a row and the tribe could win 9 in a row and Cleveland would be in first place before the 2nd week in September. I just don't think it's likely, is all. I think losing 10 of 15 played right into the hands of my worst fears, that this lack of offensive production would catch up with the Sox. But I'm gonna stick with the age old saying: Good pitching beats good hitting. And the Sox have better pitching than anyone in the AL. I got BLASTED by people on this board in July when I created a thread to ask a simple question: could a double digit lead make the Sox gun shy about making a trade? Wonder what they'd say now...?

I hope these new guidelines don't create a crew of jackbooted mods tossing out threats of suspension every time they see something they disagree with. That's why WSI blows. (personal attack!) Today, I've already seen one mod threaten to suspend someone new for calling Konkerko "pop up Paulie" and asking if another poster is having a bad day, just because they were debating a point. I love reading the debates in here and occasionally jumping into the scrum. If there's a thread I don't like I treat it like the 700 Club -- I change the channel. Certainly calls for players to drop dead or that sort of thing should be treated differently. As should name calling. But there seems to be a rather large gray area here. Let's hope it's not abused.

The Ross Gload Conspiracy
The Ginger Kid replied to Greg The Bull Luzinski's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 08:43 AM) DO you enjoy watching Pop Up Paulie walk to the plate 4 times a game in the 3 hole only to pop up twice, K once with runners on base, then single with the bases empty consistently? Do you honostly see him as a clutch hitter? I usually see Paulie hitting 4th, and since the all star break I usually see him hitting around .340 and leading the team in HR's. But I guess we all see what we want to see. -
Cleveland is still 9 back in the all-important loss column. They need to pick up roughly 2 games a week for the rest of the season to eclipse the Sox. Certainly doable, but instead of a massive collapse you're talking about a very slow and very painful one. What's going to happen in the first two weeks of September when the tribe plays Minny 6 times and Oakland 3, while the Sox are playing KC 6 times and LA 3? Do you expect the tribe to pick up 4-5 games over that stretch? Hard to picture that.

Buehrle thinks Rangers might be cheating
The Ginger Kid replied to IlliniKrush's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 10:54 PM) Tell me that they couldnt change the signs per inning, maybe change the indicator or the sequence. I dont mind that Buerhle spoke his mind, but AJ and our coaching staff should be able to adapt to sign stealing. And who are we to talk about stealing signs. We for many a year employed one of the best sign stealers in baseball as a bench coach. Lets get real. ditto ditto ditto -
QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:40 PM) Well it's glad to see that we have a real live Psychic visiting the board? Can you give me the lotto numbers for next week too? no, give it to ME! The California lotto is over 100 million!!

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:36 PM) They might not be a better team, but they're definitely peaking right now, while the Sox are not playing at the level they have all year. I agree with you on both points. I just believe things will balance out. I believe the tribe is HOT and will cool off, but still be formidable as the season closes. But I also believe the Sox are finding a way to score some runs and with Pods on the base paths again, there's at least a good chance of the offense reigniting and doing the little things again. How frustrating was it to watch Iguchi leave runners at 2nd and 3rd tonight in the 2nd inning (I think)? I mean, those are the kind of base hits that we haven't seen in a long time. I think that is changing. Aaron's hitting the ball to right, JD is too and so is Paulie. Good stuff.

QUOTE(brijames @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 06:43 PM) The Sox have stopped hitting period, and with great hitting ballclubs like the Rangers, currently beating us up, followed by the Tigers who are a great hitting team as well, the Sox will probably lose 6 of the next 7 while the Indians are just plain pounding everyone right now. That will put the lead around 2 or 3 by the end of next week and then the pressure will really eat this team up. In all fairness, I smell your fear. Stay away from the dark side. Despite what Casey Blake may have told you, the injuns are not a better team.

QUOTE(letsgoarow @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:02 PM) we have won 5 out of the last 8 You're defeating the spirit of this thread with that kind of talk. You're supposed to say something like, "We've LOST three of the last 8! We suck!!"

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 06:09 PM) Remember when everyone got bent out of shape when Varitek said that our offense doesnt scare anyone, that our lineup has a bunch of guys that are easily pitched to. Yes, I do. And I still think Varitek is an overpaid loud mouth on a team that's going nowhere this year. So he can shove it.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 04:55 PM) Thats what Twins fans said about the Sox in May. And they DID! I'm not worried about the tribe making up 9 games in the loss column. They'd have to stay redhot and the Sox would have to revert to their mid-August form. I just don't think either is going to happen. With the exception of Millwood, they don't have the pitching to sustain them. They're outslugging teams right now. Remember the last few years when the Sox used to do that?

I'll be relieved when Cleveland cools off. And believe me -- they will cool off

I think it's too bad we're not going to see BA on the post season roster -- I think he could be a real spark.

QUOTE(hi8is @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 02:54 PM) anyone here ever seen dave matthews band live? i just got back from seein em for the 6th and 7th time and wow, they are f***ing unbeliveable.... just keep getting better both shows i just saw last night were recorded and if u want them i can hook you up. this thread was started to gauge the level of intrest for the DMB here on soxtalk. peace -t I saw them about 5 years ago and made the mistake of getting too close to the stage during a clarinet solo -- nearly lost an eardrum! Great band to see live, however.
