  1. Hi, I'm Ozzie. Just stick it in nice and easy, Red Sox
  2. it's tough to beat the world champions with three errors. Joe, Joe, Joe... :headshake
  3. Konerko, you are so awesome when you try to hit the ball to right center. Awesome. But when you try to pull every f***ing pitch, I :puke
  4. the NESN announcers couldn't believe Crede swung at those pitches -- the one "was never a strike" he says. Worse, Crede was trying to pull each of them. Come on, Joe!! Be the man!
  5. QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 02:12 PM) God, we better have a White Sox winner. who is the buxom young thing in your sig??
  6. I expect the Sox to play great this series and win at least 3 of 4 from the carmines
  7. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 11:02 PM) The Sox gained 4 games on the Twins over the first 5 games after the break, the Cleveland sweep and game 1 against Detroit. The Twins lost 4 of 5 during that same time frame. so, an 11 game lead could be a 6 or 7 game lead in less than a week. Wait! Damnit, I'm being negative again!
  8. Batista would love to be a starter again. Remember how well he did in the WS?
  9. QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 10:17 PM) Chicago is blessed with a tremendous team defense, and a great pitching staff in all facets. The offensive attack is another matter. How cool is it that the Sox have people talking about their pitching and defense, something that's been soooo sorely lacking for so long. We had to give up something to get something.
  10. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 07:33 AM) This team could win the WS as is. It could lose in the first round as is. We don't know, but we better hope like hell that KW does. If we win it all, nobody will complain about anything that we do/did. But if we lose, a lot of people will be here to say that we should have done something...and in that case, they'll be right. My point is that none of us know what's going on. We don't know that we need a trade, but we don't know that we do n.o.t. need anything. Someone says we need a trade, that person gets berated. Someone says we should stand pat, that person gets berated. Nobody knows, so maybe we should all get off of our high horses. Does this mean that now you want to keep Contreras?
  11. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:58 PM) Man...it's one negative post after another with you. Let's completely revamp the line-up, eh? Trade three starters for who?? Who will take them?? Have you thought that through?? Where will you trade Pual, what will you get in return? Same with Aaron...Jermaine... Now, the propects you will trade away, also... There is an old saying. Don't be part of the problem, be part of the solution. Your posts have been nothing but complaints and nitpicking against the team with the best record in the Majors. Come up with realistic solutions, if you are so concerned. ESPN recently did a feature on blockbuster trades at the deadline. The majority that went on to the World Series and won did NOT make a blockbuster trade. Yes, they made tiny trades to bolster a bullpen or bench. But not to the degree you suggest. Boston last year was an exception, not the rule. Might I suggest easing up on the fantasy baseball mentality when approaching this team. In Fantasy baseball you can trade half your team to another team...because it's a fantasy. There is soemthing to be said about chemistry. It's not a major cog in the wheel, but it helps. Just some advice...Enjoy this team. We may never have another season like this again. eh...I think you're confusing me with someone else. I raised this topic as a question, a possibility that a 12 game lead could make management too hesitant to make a move that could be the difference in getting to the playoffs and winning the WS. I'm not suggesting some wild ass trades, as you seem to think I am. Don't be so knee jerk in your reactions. These boards are a fun place to raise a question. Relax, put down the jar of glue and take a deep breath. Believe me, I'm enjoying this season even as a relocated fan.
  12. I'll be very happy if the Sox come out of this weekend with a double digit lead still in tact. The twins don't "scare" me like they did in the past, but they certainly concern me. The great thing is that this year's Sox feel so different from the days of Valentin, Lee and Ordonez.
  13. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 10:18 PM) If they ate most of his contract id be all over that. Jerry said money is no option at this point. His words, not mine...
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 09:20 PM) Every other post I see on this board deals with how some player will help our team in the postseason. Am I the only one who doesn't think it's a lock we make the playoffs this season? In no way am I trying to be pessimistic with this, but I've watched enough sports in my life to know that much, much, much crazier things have happened than a team with a 13 (now down to 11) game lead in their division not making the postseason. The Twins have been a dynamite 2nd half team for a couple of seasons now, and we have a ton of games left against them this season. In no way do I feel like the AL Central divison has been decided. If we can't win some slugfests against the Red Sox and Yankees this season, we're going to struggle against them. This is one of the biggest reasons that I get upset when I see Ozzie make quotes about how this team doesn't need to make any changes. It's better to be proactive, and go for the "kill", then to wait to see if something bad happens, and then have to make a reactive move. Man, I got blasted by some for just raising the possibility that management is getting complacent with a 12 (now 11) game lead. But I agree with you. I think the Sox gained 4 games on the Twins in one week in late June, if I remember correctly. This thing is sooo far from over that all this playoff talk makes me :puke
  15. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 09:19 PM) Rowand for Ken Griffey Jr. I said it. Flame away if you want. oh man, they'd never do it, but how sweet would that be??
  16. AR said in an interview last week that his swing has been "off" this year and that he hasn't found the consistency, each day it feels different. He's working on it. I hope he gets it hammered out quick. We need someone to get smoking hot right about now, someone who can hit for power and more importantly to this team, average.
  17. Every team has rough stretches. The 1927 Yankees, long considered the best team ever with a record of 110-44, actually got swept by the lowly Indians in August. They hit some other bumps in the road too. Of course, they also had some mean win streaks, check it out! '27 yanks
  18. QUOTE(CYGarland @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 03:38 PM) well he certainly didn't pitch good, he was ok. He shouldn't have been out there in the 9th yes, that was a mistake. Maybe Ozzie was trying to conserve the pen since Hermie's shut down right now? Not sure. I imagine he'll spew forth a reason when some intrepid beat writer asks him.
  19. I say awesome comeback today -- they went down fighting and that's a helluva long way from the Sox teams of recent memory. Detroit caught a break today. Bring on the carmines!
  20. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 02:52 PM) We were SHELLED. Whatever, 5 wins 2 losses, I'll take it every time. We can play Boston now, which is what this team was doing anyway -- looking forward to Boston rather than playing the Tiglets. Ditto. The Tigers are capable of playing real good baseball. As we've just seen. They're also capable of screwing the pooch. I hope they stay hot through the weekend and spank the Twins around.
  21. Well, as Humphrey Bogart once said, "We'll always have Cleveland." Or something like that.
