QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 02:31 PM) 110 pitches for Garcia... oye ve. Yeah, I'm pretty dumbfounded by that too.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 02:28 PM) Garcia is STILL pitching...??? WTF...?? Ozzie wanted to get in a little BP for Detroit. Nice move, oz

I hate losing a series to the Tigers :banghead

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 10:31 AM) Typical, third game lineup. But it's nice to give some guys a breather. But's a day game and Freddy's pitching. So he should be on. Freddy must not mind getting stuck with the scrubs, not the way he pitches during the day. I think he'll be on, too.

Looks like a nice line of storms is heading in. Wonder if there will be a delay...

All we're hearing from KW and Ozzie is that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Sounds good on the surface. But in reality if the Sox were in a dogfight with the Twins they'd be far more aggressive and willing to add to this team, even if it cost some clubhouse favorites their ticket out of town. But they're not in a dogfight, so what's the point, right? Does that mean you don't look to improve? In terms of importance, does chemistry trump talent? Is this 12 game lead over the Twins keeping the Sox from improving the talent on their roster for fear of guys not getting along? In the league standings the Sox are 7 games up on the Angels. A bit more sobering and certainly worth watching when home field means so much. Boston won the WS last year and they're starting to make some moves. The Sox haven't won squat and they're standing pat? I don't like it. Who's to say a radical move like trading favorites like a Rowand or even a Konerko might not work out? Would you rather have Jermaine Dye or Ken Griffey Jr.? There's too much fear of messing up a good thing instead of thinking of making a good thing better. A great thing, even. I'm not saying I don't like a 12 game lead. Make it 20! This isn't about just beating the Twins. Or is it?

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 05:31 PM) I'm sorry but that's just utterly insane trading Brandon McCarthy and Brian Anderson for Derek Lowe. Have you seen his record in the regular season over rhe past 2 and a half seasons? His ERA in the last month and a half has also significantly increased as well. Yes, you are so right. I mean, look at what B-Mac has done in the majors. And BA has been so awesome in the majors too. Look, there's no such thing as overpaying for a World Series Championship. And you need to watch some more baseball if you really think that D-Lowe's ERA over the last month has anything to do with who he is and what he brings to a team. Did you even watch the playoffs last year?

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 07:45 PM) They don't get big hits when they need them. Individually their hitters have been up good numbers, as a whole, not so much. That must be it, because these guys are better hitters than the twins, which should make up for the drop off in pitching. I guess I'm saying I wouldn't be surprised to see them in 2nd place. -

I don't understand how the Tigers don't have a better record this year. They have good pitching and solid hitting and pretty good defense. It makes no sense. -

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 07:12 PM) So are people ready to rethink the Contreras > Burnett statements made in the past week? Marlins want Damaso. That's the deal breaker. -

is it just me, or has Bonderman consistently gone 2-0 to Sox hitters all night? -

Bonderman looks good and Contreras again struggles getting the third out of an inning. Not the first time. So what? Sometimes it's not your night. I just don't want to see the Sox lose a series at home to the Tigers. I was hoping this year it would be different! -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 06:49 PM) At least it's a lot more exciting to watch Jenks pitch instead of Adkins or Mike Jackson in mop-up duty. Mike Jackson. Did you really have to mention him? :puke -

with that crede error and the bomb, you just had a feeling they were going to look shaky this inning. let the lead settle in a bit, get some more looks at Bonderman and keep it close until the 5th or 6th. -

QUOTE(upnorthsox @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 02:26 PM) Right, it was the Bellhorn injury that made me skeptical of the Mueller trade to begin with but getting Graffy now makes at all come together. A pretty good move on the BoSox part. Mueller will be going to the Twins for Romero. Bosox are making some good moves. Futile, but good.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:51 AM) This is one of those rare instances that I agree with you, though the reasoning is different. I'd love for the Sox beat the Yankees in the 1st round and then the BoSox in the ALCS. That would make them all sit down and STFU. I'm with you on this one. I want the Sox to win it all and I want them to go through the best teams to do it. I think it will be the evil empire, the carmines, and the Angels that will make it to the playoffs with the sox. The Twins pitching is so damn good, thank god they have no bats.
-
The startribune is reporting that a deal is in the works for boston's Bill Mueller to to the Twins for JC Romero. Kevin Millar is also available. This could be a trade that gets the Twins rolling. Not enough to catch the Sox, but still... Linky

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:24 AM) I think out of Weaver, Perez and Lowe, I would be more inclined to take Lowe. He is more of a groundball pitcher IIRC and has been a victim of poor defense and lack of run support. Plus, you know what the guy has done in the playoffs. You know how he owns the Yankees and you know he'd love a shot at his old mates. And those two teams are very likely heading to the playoffs this year. If JR means what he says then don't bother looking at the contracts, just look at what the players can mean to this club. The Dodgers will be sellers. Their owner is strapped for cash and by the beginning of next week we'll see them make a call and start dumping. I just hope KW is there first. I'd trade McCarthy in a heartbeat and toss in another good prospect. Hell, I'd throw in Anderson too. The future is NOW.
