  1. that was some s***ty defense right there
  2. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Mar 15, 2014 -> 08:45 PM) Yeah, and Stephen Drew will be an upgrade over Iglesias. I don't get all the hype around Iglesias. He is more Didi Gregorious, and less Andrelton Simmons. Dude has no bat. They got some other piece from Boston, right, not just Iglesias?
  3. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 11:04 AM) I would like to contribute to this discussion.
  4. sweet play by micah johnson. can't wait to see him up with the big club some day.
  5. Trout's short and quick swing. don't know why more guys don't copy that
  6. Any thoughts on what division race will be the most compelling to watch this season? My money's on the AL West with 3 legit contenders and the Mariners, who won't suck either.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 01:43 PM) Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 8m Flowers, hitting now, still looking like the White Sox No. 1 catcher as of March 10 (and probably beyond) Where's the vomit emoticon?
  8. forget any shocking hitting stats you see from the tigers for the next week or so - they're padding them today against St. Louis. 17-0 and counting
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 06:14 AM) Not sure... but I can tell you that Scott Merkin told FS he's going by Micker Adolfo now. Apparently this is a paternal/maternal name thing, but many players from LatAm take on the more American paternal last name when they get here, which he apparently has. So you won't see the Sox using the Zapata part of his name. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 07:08 AM) This is from last Monday... https://twitter.com/scottmerkin/status/440590752410648576 Thanks. Too bad - I like Zapata better.
  10. Is Micker Zapata in minor league camp?
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 7, 2014 -> 10:42 AM) Serious Q in reply...why should we expect the defense and baserunning to be "cleaned up"? In many cases we have either the same guys in those positions who were bad last year, or potential downgrades (Rios down to Garcia, Davidson supposed to be pretty rough at 3b, Eaton was below average in CF last year although maybe injury and short time to blame). They're younger and that could very well raise the risk of silly mistakes even higher. It's a valid point, but given the radical swing between '12 and '13 in all of those areas, even some sort of median suckage would have to produce better results. And let's not forget Rios and the countless blunders he made on the bases. I'm hoping for more inspired play from new guys looking to make their mark.
  12. My really questionable math: Just by cleaning up the defense and incredibly poor base running should translate into 10 more wins. The loss of Peavy, -4 wins. I'm not going to delude myself into thinking guys like Beckham and Viciedo are going to have breakout seasons. As excited as I am to see Johnson get his shot you can't expect him to have the veteran saavy of a guy like Peavy who can take the mound w/o his best stuff and still compete for 6-7 innings. I do like Johnny D to bounce back, though. So 69-93 would be my guess. Hopeful for more, of course.
  13. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 6, 2014 -> 10:36 AM) It's wrong, but just based on how Bryce Harper looks now, I want him to get hurt and flame out before he's 30. Harper then and now
  14. Where the f*** is Bellisario. This is starting to get weird.
  15. Have to let that arm get tired and sore then rebound
  16. gapper for Abreu, first hit of the spring, 2 run double
