  1. Jermaine Dye is the best right fielder in the majors this season including Vladimir Guerrero
  2. For some reason I remember Steve Sax making a great play, but I don't remember the actual play. Anyone remember?
  3. Ozzie should just nominate 5 white sox for the final vote.
  4. No one can top Lou Merloni playing the Godfather theme. A smart pitcher would just groove one in there. The consequences otherwise might not be pleasant.
  5. Jeter has fine range actually. But of course when you have great speed, quickness, and a long reach it is hard not to have some range. It is funny that a statistical range deficiency turns into "Jeter can't get to anything" or the thought that unless the ball is hit a step to his right or left he can't get to it. The reality is Jeter has poor range to his left (ala a certain player in our infield whose defense is revered regardless) but you can be a hell of a defensive player with poor range to your left. And the fact is the last two years Jeter's range factor has been above the league average after years being well below. This year I think it is back below. Did I mention that range factor is a fundamentally flawed statistic that does not actually measure range? Range is basically impossible to measure statistically, RF might be the best thing out there, but that doesnt mean it isnt flawed. Tejada has never sniffed a gold glove and Jeter is the two-time reigning winner, not that the award is the end all in who can pick it and who cant. but saying Jeter is better than Tejada defensively is not an outlandish statement. Jeter makes big plays and is more reliable than Tejada and Tejada has more range up the middle.
  6. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 10:06 PM) I don't see how Jeter is the definative choice over Tejada. Defense is a wash at best, Tejada has the power numbers and Jeter has the average/runs/SB. Also, you're wrong, Glaus has a higher OPS than A-Rod. First of all, like I said coming into Tuesday's game A-Rod had the highest OPS among 3Bs in the AL. He was one thousandth of a point ahead of Glaus. I was not wrong. A-Rod was 0-4 today and Glaus was 1-4 so I guess they could have flip flopped but I did not have the up to the second numbers. 2nd of all I don't see how more HRs can put Tejada ahead of Jeter when Jeter is hitting like 20 points higher and have an OBP that is 60 points higher and a higher OPS. He has had a great season stealing bases 15/17 and is the leader of one of the better teams in the AL. I guess statistically one could argue he is only marginally better than Tejada, but I think it would be very difficult for one to say he has been better than Jeter. I also disagree with defense being a wash, Jeter is more reliable on the routine plays and just as spectacular on the tough ones. Tejada deserves to be an all-star, he deserves to be Jeter's backup.
  7. C-Mauer, cant see much argument here 1B-Hafner, the kid's got some nasty dropjaw. Giambi, Thome, and Mr. clutch Ortiz close. 2B-Lopez, close with him and Cano and Iguchi. 53 RBIs for Lopez puts him over the top SS-Jeter, having a great season he is really the only choice 3B-A-Rod, not an ARod like first half but lead all 3B in OPS coming into Tuesday's games. Crede and Glaus just as deserving. OF-Wells, I don't see how one can argue with this guy being an AS this year. OF-Dye, gotta slurp the hometown guy, clutch hitting OPS over 1.000 OF-Ichiro, Defensively, on the bases, with the stick, what an amazing player, hitting .360. Manny is a close 4th
  8. Did Cintron see one actual strike on that strikeout?
  9. I think Raines is right below the level of the level that is boarderline HOF. This means I think he is almost HOF caliber, but I do not think he should ever get in.
  10. QUOTE(Felix @ May 19, 2006 -> 04:09 PM) Ok, well, obviously we saw two different things. Its over now though, whatever. We saw the same thing, we are watching the same game.
  11. QUOTE(Felix @ May 19, 2006 -> 04:06 PM) There's a difference from tagging a players hand and having it fall off the base and tackling a guy. He didn't tag him and....whoops!...Crede's hand slipped off. He put his glove into Crede's forearm and applied force trying to take Crede's hand off the bag. That was as blatant as it could be.
  12. QUOTE(Felix @ May 19, 2006 -> 04:02 PM) AFAIK, thats still an out, is it not? Of course it isn't an out, you can't knock a guy off a base. It is the same principle as if a guy tackled a guy standing on a base and then tagged him. It was a terrible call and Crede should have been called safe. Also, I am not familiar with AFAIK. As far as I know?
  13. Are you guys serious? He had his hand knocked off the base by Cedeno
  14. Brian has helped us more than he has hurt us. And he is improving at the plate.
  15. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 15, 2006 -> 03:22 PM) Woo hoo. I'm curious what makes a Hold? Cotts got one today, but Politte didnt? Right. I think you have to come into the game in a save situation and leave with the lead stillfor it to count as a hold. With the Crede HR we went up 4 runs so Cliff came into a non save situation.
  16. Hunter is every bit the defender that Jones is. Both make impossible plays look easy. The difference is everyone has been saying Jones was incredible in the field since the guy was 20 and the fact that he lived up to the hype has made it common for people to say things like yeah hes the greatest ever maybe even though they really don't have much basis for that claim. They are both elite, both are about as good as you could expect a human being to be at playing center field.
  17. Ozuna was being lazy, he is a big time big leaguer so he thinks balls out play isn't always needed. A ton of guys would have done what he did, its not much to get on him about. More accurate I think is if he did sprint back to third it would be something to commend him about. Although it is sad that we think players are going above and beyond just by hustling.
  18. LOL, I have never seen anything like this before.
  19. Buncha Jeff Brantleys on this board
  20. Rob was certainly out there with the clear tag on the calf while he wasn't on the base. Tough call and I'll take the good break.
  21. I think this is the first time I have seen the word fracas in print
  22. I might just be going crazy, but aren't Frank's comments a couple weeks old? And besides that it seemed like Frank being Frank. I thought what Kenny said was completely unprofessional. I'm not defending Frank's comments, but there is no issue here at all if Kenny just keeps his mouth shut.
  23. hes saying Frank is a loser and a cancer, btw.
  24. Its not so much that I want to kill him, I just don't want him to be alive...anymore.
  25. For what it is worth, Abreu isn't just another RFer, he is a boarderline HOF caliber RFer. He is having a HOF career in a small market. If that offer was really made to us I am a little disappointed that we didn't take it. He could hit 50 HRs in the cell
