  1. Keep Garland in to bunt, its an obvious choice. Unless, of course, he sucks at bunting.
  2. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Oct 22, 2005 -> 02:46 PM) Nope, the Knicks don't like him. What's Paul McPherson doing these days? Bicep curls?
  3. When my computer still read 11:58 I got through to a 1 minute wait, and about 30 seconds into that it said my search couldnt be processed or something
  4. Thank you Graffy! Thank you Josh!
  5. Its pretty obvious that he caught it and kind of embarrassing that people are trying to say that it was trapped. There was a good inch between the ball and the ground. The ball doesnt move up at all. It kind of looks like that because he smashes the end of his glove into the ground as he catches it so his glove is moving down. Even if the ball does move up a little in the glove, it still didn't hit the dirt which is all that matters. The ball was caught, it was a close play yes, but also an obvious one, however. It was a strikeout, we caught a break, we got the win, its a good day.
  6. The fist pump doesnt mean out. He has to call him out. Fist pump is just a fist pump, its no official end all signal. The ump says thats his strike three motion, the two motions. It seems like he never made the out call. Now the play was called incorrectly, but he never did call AJ out.
  7. I don't like winning like this. I am happy we won, but we would have won anyway. Looks like Anaheim will have extra motivation so we better bring our A-game to California.
  8. Amusing how some like to act as if Konerko just started heating up the last month or so. He hit .293 in June, .315 in July, and .300 in August. Besides a couple week long or so slumps Konerko has been consistently excellent since May ended.
  9. Konerko is a career .278 hitter and is currently hitting........ .278
  10. Someone leading them? If he is healthy I will bet you anything he will play. But way too much is unknown right now.
  11. Overreactors. For all anyone knows he is out 3 months and will only miss half the season. THe defense looks great and so does the pass pro, which is GREAT because Hutchinson is very solid if he has time to throw.
  12. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 09:29 PM) 9 million dollars for a man who only hits homers and struggles with men on. The only thing true about this is the 9 million part. Konerko hits about the same with runners on or no runners on and of course he gets on base and slugs well above the league average in both situations. I guess the best way to put it would be to say he struggles with runner on because he does not hit well when there is one runner on. When there are two runners on or the bases loaded he is hitting like .350. If he only hit HRs he would have 25 hits. He has 100 hits, and the bigger percentage of his you have as HRs the better though.
  13. QUOTE(GBlum27 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 09:23 PM) He is easily the most overrated player by fans at the ballpark. Since when do fans rate players a the games? Fans cheer for Paul Konerko because they want him to succeed. But I am referring to the fans who completly bash Konerko for this contrived reasons. They have built a strawman and named him Konerko and boy can they tear that strawman down.
  14. Konerko's splits are beyond bizarre. Although he is hitting .245 with RISP he is slugging .531 which is great. He is hitting .316 with runners on 1st and 2nd. He is hitting .400 with runners on 1st and 3rd. He is hitting .375 with runners on 2nd and 3rd and .375 with the bases loaded. He is hitting .368 with a runner on third and less than two out. He is hitting .340 close and late which means 7th inning or later up a run, tied, or the tying run is on deck. Then of course you have his .042 with a runner on third. .145 with scoring position and 2 out and a bunch of splits smattered all over the .200s. There is a ton of good and a good deal of bad too. Overall his offensive numbers, however, are undeniably good. As well as he has been a .300 hitter for over 2 months now. Of course for many on this board they are incapable of interpreting his numbers and revert to the he is selfish, he tries to pull a homerun every at bat. He just plays for stats, he doesn't come through in the clutch and all of this. I remember when he was hitting .249 I must have seen ten people cite that he can't even hit .250. Even though he is a .277 career hitter and could easily finish at that level or above. The reality Paulie is a guy who has played hard for us for 5 seasons and has been a very productive offensive player. He is also as good as anyone in the majors at first base when it comes to picking it and throwing it. His range is below average, but he is a good defender. After a slow start he is having another very good season. Sure he is a pull hitter, but that doesn't mean he is selfish. He is a guy who has given his all to this team and deserves more repsect than he gets from the fans. He isn't going to be like Manny Ramirez and come through with clutch RBIs at an enormous rate. But he certainy is a guy who can give you a lot of offense and good defense at first base.
  15. With an ERA under 2 in his last four starts I hope he gets a start or two in September. If he does well, boosts his confidence. Maybe he can comeback next year and go 23-6 and win the Cy Young next year. Something like that.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 10:50 PM) Over 60 games left, including 13 against the Twins, and a handful amount of games against some of the other best teams in the AL. Stranger things have definitely happen in baseball than a team with a 12 game lead on 7/26 not make the playoffs. If the 12 games up and almost August is the only thing in the post you can dispute I guess you are admitting you could be wrong about Ozzie's handling of this team.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 10:35 PM) You have to get to the playoffs first. That should be Ozzie's main goal right now. There's still way too much time left for Ozzie to be planning for the postseason. This would be a whole different argument if the Sox had clinched, etc. Even I would be understanding! We are 12 games up and its almost August. Although these lineups have lost us a game here or there, OZZIE'S TEAM has not gone on any long losing streaks. We are resilient as a team and I thank Ozzie for that. Therefore I am not arrogant enough to believe that I know what is best for the team when it comes to who plays. Ozzie has done as good of a job with this team as is possible. Considering how talented this team is and how much they win it simply does not add up. Until we start swooning I can't find fault in his use of backups when it comes to the big picture and this team.
  18. People want the great chemistry, but refuse to accept the way Ozzie has been able to build and maintain it. Besides that, come October I would happily have an extra loss or two if it meant having a bench more ready to contribute in the playoffs and a team that has 25 members who go to the ballpark everyday hoping they have a chance to contribute.
  19. When there is no more room in Iowa, the idiots will post on the soxtalk gamethread
  20. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 10:10 PM) Oh my God, forget this one...I'm out. Finally, some good news!
  21. Konerko may not have many HRs this year but god damn he has been clutch!
  22. QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 06:25 PM) ditto. The reason Iguchi's numbers are down is becuase he is helping out the team by moving the runner along and sacrificing himself. If he wanted to play for himself he'd have better numbers. This guy is a team player. Iguchi's numbers are down because he is hitting terribly. Sure he hits some grounders to the right side when Podsednik is on 2nd with no one out. But I would bet the BA points he has lost from this are no more than the BA points he has gotten from Podsednik putting defenses in movement and from pitchers throwing up cookies to him because they are thinking about Podsednik running. Iguchi leads the team in strikeouts and only Dye had grounded into more double plays. He has had a below average offensive year. Some has said he is the best #2 hitter in the league. That is as absurd as it gets. He has been poor, being a good #2 hitter is much more than just moving runners along, you have to be a good hitter in general too. Iguchi started off very good but has been bad for almost two months. Still, it would be a mistake to take him out of the lineup because in general it is obvious that he is struggling (as opposed to not being good) and he still a better option than Willie Harris
