  1. What is stupidity" Isn't it doing the same thing over and over and expecting diffferent results. I would say right now we need to get a cf/ outfielder and there seems to be only one outfielder in our minor league system doube a or higher that is hitting in the 300s and that is Jordan Danks. It has been said that he is already can play solid defense. What if he can't hit at this level well Danks can have on the job training at the mlb level and I believe his hitting could be no worse than Wise's .133 while we already know he has a much higher upside.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 02:59 PM) It might also be Lillibridge as he could bunt and do some little things. That said, Konerko ain't going to the DL right now. lillibridge can do some little things.. What a tongue and cheek slam. Great dig, was that some suttle sarcasm?
  3. QUOTE (RibbieRubarb @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 02:06 PM) He goes in as a Phillie... The Sox took a real chance on him as a Phillie an everyday player he was done. His stats were way down but his career was resurrected with the sox. Myself, I think his resurection as a DH and thus continuing his baseball career shouldn't be discounted.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 26, 2009 -> 08:33 AM) Double off the rc field wall. What a concept. Hit it where it is pitched. Maybe some of these guys will start to do that. When I watch other games, I see a lot of opposite field blasts. opposite field hits may mean his timing is off swinging a little late or he needs to cut down on his swing. Many right hand power hitters power alley is to right center. If he's striking out too much not hitting the ball for power and averages sound more like we need to get rid of Greg Walker. With his firing I think at least we, the fans could at least feel as if Sox management is at least trying to make the team better.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 20, 2009 -> 12:29 PM) This is why I love Ozzie. Its a great message, and 100% true. Too bad we don't have any real leadoff type grinders to introduce Lilli too. I wonder if Lance Johnson needs a job? Anyway, with Lilli gone, that is one less strawman for Sox fans to blame for things. I can't stand all this Lillibridge bashing. I truly believe he is a fine looking 12 year old and when he grows up maybe he can come back to mlb like in that movie about the kid pitching for the cubs.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 14, 2009 -> 01:56 PM) I agree, but the Sox have never acted like they play the game that way, evidence of the Sunday lineups last year and their overall demeanor. There's never a sense of urgency and usually the team finally gets going. If lillibridge cut down on his swing chances are he would strikeout less but more likely, with his power, the ball when he hits it may not make it out of the infield
  7. QUOTE (Cali @ May 11, 2009 -> 12:15 AM) Richard will have better control, and actually know where the ball is going when it leaves his hand unlike Jose, but he WILL get rocked right around the 4th or 5th inning, if not the 1st or 2nd. Don't jump on me too quick but Gobble down at Charlotte seems to know how to handle lefties they hit .056 against him he only attempts to pitch to right hand hitters with an era near nine. but has been doing better during his last 10 games. I predict we will see him soon coming out of our pen. Not for sure but KW never does the ordinary.
  8. QUOTE (wilmot825 @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 10:28 PM) According to Fox News Chicago, President Obama has invited the White Sox to the White House for a visit while they are in Baltimore. How about that! I am like many whitesox fans my days seem better when there is a W on the south side. So if Obama feels the same about our sox then America and the world will be better if the sox keep winning. Go sox the world needs you to perform.
  9. QUOTE (sayitaintso @ Apr 5, 2009 -> 04:42 PM) Or too many ross gload memories 17 is a prime number.
  10. Last year we had Swisher, he was great at getting walks but not to good of an average. Wise not to good at getting walks and had about the same average. Swisher a lousy centerfielder and an average base runner. Wise is a bad centerfielder and a good base runner. Hmm, in the national league because of the pitcher hitting for himself a good leadoff hitter is more important. In the American league not as important. I must say something good about Wise although I prefer to see BA in center. Wise does impress me with his work ethic. He is a grinder I hope his hard work on and off the field can translate into results on the diamond maybe overshadow his lack of walks and obp. Or is it that Ozzie just hates BA.
  11. The article said that we will have Ramirez and Getz both playing second. Is this a new strategy? Fields range must be underestimated.
  12. Betemit looks like the guy from "major league" the movie who worshipped Jabo. maybe jabo is good luck this season
  13. this picture also illustrates the fact that camelback is a beautiful but empty stadium. One can surmise by th photo that we could use some more sox fans in attendance. Sad that we broke a record when we played the cubs. if you can't make it this year plan on next year. Enjoy perfect Arizona weather and the sox at camelback. Too bad I could only spend a week this time.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 23, 2009 -> 12:06 PM) Since 2003, Corky has a .122 BA in the major leagues. Lucy even with 1 kneecap is probably a better option. Lucy has one knee cap due to his accident last year. wow ,he seemed ok catching at spring training \, bad break. As for corky batting .122 previously he seems to be hitting the ball well this spring. corky will not get a lot of infield hits due to his lack of speed. If I could describe his physique I would have to say just imagine Barney Rubble running. Corky does have a great arm. hard to say as of right now how well he calls games. I was under the assumption that Lucy among our minor league catchers Don was the best. Armstrong, batting left is blocked by AJ but I have to say the one homerun I saw him hit was very impressive right center and at least a 435 foot job. Flowers another good bat seemed a little over matched and a little raw at catching but was adequate on the day i watched him. We have a lot of talent at the catchers position but when they will be ready is another question.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 05:30 PM) If Jerry Owens was FA this winter, he would have had to sign a minor league contract. He's going to leadoff for the White Sox unless KW can pull a rabbit out of his hat and get Figgins or someone else. Of course, if he goes 0-2 with 3 BB and 2 SB every day, the Sox would be in good shape. I just think unfortunately, he's showing enough where the White Sox won't give up on him. 3 or 4 years ago, I was a big Owens fan, then I saw him play. I honestly think Pods or a guy like Chris Duffy, and obviously neither are world beaters, are better than Owens. I also think Owens is better than Wise as an everyday or platoon guy. Wise is probably a better 5 AB a week guy. I thoroughly enjoy the Owens fans but i must truly say that if indeed the sox worked on him this offseason to improve the probability of him making the starting lineup someone wasted a lot of energy and time. I watched jerry in about 4 spring training games and although he seems adequate at center he cannot hit a lick and this spring is having problems stealing unless you count the money he is abscounding from the team pretending to be a mlb ready player.
  16. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 05:20 PM) Is Flowers definitely going to AA or is he joining Danks and the Purple Phallus? sorry going back to the original post "future considerations" what does that mean? another minor leaguer or is the value of future considerations have to do with how Stewart is valued after he goes to the yankees? A draft pick what or when does the yankees have to give back. do we have a choice now or are we offered something later.
  17. It is an absolute great time weather, baseball and seeing the sox players up close. Make it this year if you can but if you can't make sure you come next year for a few games. you won't be disappointed.
  18. he had some success in the majors i could see using him which would allow us to keep a lefty to complete his training as a starter at aaa.
  19. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Mar 16, 2009 -> 04:59 PM) I'm not a big fan of the response I'm going to post, but I think your post totally deserves it... +1 no one mentioned Betemit, he is ripping the ball. I skipped the game today but no matter what it costs you'll never get a closer look at the players. Sometimes the b games are as good as the ones you pay admission.
  20. QUOTE (CryptviLL @ Mar 16, 2009 -> 12:34 PM) no doubt lool, exactly why I have the ava, it's like.. the most cocky/chauvinist ava possible lool I've been to 2 games where mlb has baseball's greatest fan tents. My son and i each made a video. then go to the sight and watch yourself appear to be interviewed by Harold reynolds.
  21. I have not been sold on the play of any of our 2nd base candidates. The play at short whether played by Alexei, Beckham or others seemed to be better played.. I think that Alexei might be the best fielding second baseman. I haven't seen any attempts by Ozzie to play Beckham at second yet.
  22. QUOTE (forrestg @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 11:47 PM) Balta, he was playing left when he made his usual bonehead play. Wise played centerwise made a great catch but struckout twice not looking good either time.. not the kind of at bats that a leadoff hitter should have
  23. pretty much in your face that is even worsened by the fact that you are sloped so you will catch even more rays. A virtual sunbather's heaven.
  24. QUOTE (BearSox @ Mar 14, 2009 -> 07:57 PM) I don't really think they post info about B or split squad games, but I think the stats from those games go into the main stats page on mlb.com Also, it seems highly likely we'll be seeing Viciedo in AA or AAA to begin the year (preferably AA, that's where all the talent is). It was Fields job to lose, and so far he's been raking. he played in the b game today. He's a bundle of talent. Too bad Betemit and fields are looking so good. Viciedo has had a few bad at bats but I've also watched him hit the ball hard. The best way to describe him is a "raw bundle of talent" . For a big guy he moves well, has a strong arm and seems to take good routes to the balls.. When he is at the plate it looks like he'll be a patient hitter. I believe he'll adapt quickly
