  1. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Dec 25, 2012 -> 08:40 PM)
    All the best to AJ in Texas. As someone said, I'll have to find my way in on August 23 to get him some cheers.

    2005 would not have been possible without him. One of the most honest, smartest baseball players in Sox history.

    Good luck, AJ.

    build the statue!

  2. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 04:04 PM)
    I have no evidence only opinion. I do question conventional wisdom here on Soxtalk.

    conventional wisdom on sox talk I just want to hear something new and inspiring or even thought provoking. It just seems so quiet and there is too many questions concerning the 2013 white sox

  3. QUOTE (onedog#1 @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 02:32 AM)
    Ride it out with beckham this year, this has been said before last year, but this truely is make or break year for Beckham with the sox.
    I was going to mention platooning beckham but he has the unique ability be able to not hit both lefties and righties equally
  4. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Dec 11, 2012 -> 08:39 PM)
    AJ better be dam cheap or forget about it.

    How cheap is damn cheap. I am not a fan of his when it comes to throwing out base stealer but without that man we would be in the same predicament as the Cubs still waiting for a world series championship. We as sox fans have to pay a little respect to him. The allegiance of Aj to the managers, management, players fans should not be understated. Watching him in spring training with Ozzie etc will make you value him more. I would not be surpised if he does resign with the sox and whatever he receives I won't complain

    because he desrves it and it is not coming out of my pocket.

  5. QUOTE (Joxer_Daly @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 03:00 AM)
    This was my answer to a similar question when I first joined the forum back in the summer:
    My dad was a Sox fan my mom's family were Cubs fans. I have 2 older sister who cared less about baseball while my older brother didn't care about sports I developed a fascination with baseball although I would not see a major league game Comiskey until I was 13. In the mid fifties I wafirst s struck by the outlandish nicknames like jungle Jim Rivera who made shoe string catches on fly balls hit anywhere near him. I had no idea what that actually looked like but it was Bob Elsons description so it had to be true. Listening to a game on the radio allowed the fan to use his imagination. There wasn't any replays you had to pay attention. That was baseball. I knew my players from my baseball cards ,from the paper and magazines. If anyone is interested in my game the sox played the yankees in 1962 Maris and Mantle were in the outfield that day a thirteen year old's kid's dream.
  6. QUOTE (IowanSoxFan @ Nov 29, 2012 -> 02:22 PM)
    Wow, what a dive from top prospect to FA. Despite that, Reckling obviously has talent and hopefully he can find it again with the White Sox. I like this move.

    Bobby jenks came to the soxfrom the angels I believe the results could be made with Reckling.

  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 27, 2012 -> 11:39 AM)
    Hawk Harrelson was actually preaching teams needed 2 hitting coaches over 25 years ago. I wonder what this means for Gellinger. He was the assistant hitting coach. Will the Sox have 2?
    having

    I watched the hitting coach work with q . at spring training they were working with the timing of the leg kick. I don't think it could hurt having 2 as long as they are not contradicting each other

  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 12:33 PM)
    I know it is risky, but I still think the Sox are Royals could be a good fit with pitching and 3B's.
    I wish we had getz back not a great player but is a 250-275 left hitter adequate 2nd base but wouldn't let him bunt too much seems to let his fingers get in the way. Switch Beckham back to third where he seems to have attain a better avg

  9. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 06:04 PM)
    It's actually not a better deal if you do the math...

    I hate to tell anyone anything but those sunday afternoon games attendance have been lacking fans for as long as I've been seeking tickets to sox games. I doesn't take a genius to see that there is a problem filling them . Family sunday discounts sounds like the right marketing direction. I always felt bad seeing the sparce crowds on any sunday.

  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 09:02 AM)
    From the Sox facebook page:

    April is always the worst month for attendance at the cell. One because its colder so people need a reason to come out. Something better than HD tv. so find a a way for fans to make it real. We the fans need a reason to bear the cold april games.

  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 09:25 AM)
    It seems this year it was used like airlines use their pricing methods. I remember Brooks being quoted as basically saying the system was something that they expected fans to take some time getting used to. Obviously, having tickets drop to next to nothing the day before and day of the game isn't going to help revenue. I think they should ditch the system until the attendance starts trending upward.
    All seats in upper deck at 1959 prices for April games in honor of the go go whitesox and the 2013 season. their mostly empty in april anyway.
  12. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 6, 2012 -> 01:52 AM)
    2 yrs/$22. Sounds fair.

    Jake is not a #1,2, but perhaps at the low end of a # 3 starter. I think Jake didn't prove enough to me toward the end of the season to give him any more than the 2 year 22m.. We have paid him premium money for no season that he was worth his keep. I would say 22million - the buyout. I like Jake but he did complete the season although not with great success.

    I would give Robin an A for managing to keeping a team that not no destiny to keeping us in the long enough for us to forget how bad this team was thought to be as the season commenced. Pleasant surprises in so many performances and some bad breaks but Robin kept us in the mix almost till the end.

  14. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Oct 5, 2012 -> 09:12 PM)
    .281 / .348 / .496 this year in 313 PA. Oft injured for sure. Not worthless.

    Not here to defend Chavez. Lots of bad options for 3B. You got a better one?

    sure, put gordon back at third and find 2nd baseman that can field and hit. Get Get Getz back and we have another lefty in the line up.
