  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 02:19 AM) Not positive, but I'd imagine you don't get paid in the Olympics. Again, I'm not sure, but I imagine if you are called up, you get the pro-rated salary for the minimum major league wage from this point forward. I love the US as much as anyone, but I'd gladly take that money above anything else. There's a monstrous difference between $100,000 over 3 months rather than representing your country...one involves $100,000 and the other doesn't. Through all of this, he had little choice at all, so nothing is really up to him...it was win-win either way, so he's lucky to be goddamn good at what he does (or injuries), regardless of whether he has success in the majors or not. Isn't our Olympic basketball players professional do they not get paid? Why are our baseball players singled out?
  2. Lot of extra base hits not too many homers.. Venezualen.. High average lot of walks.. Can he outfield fields? September call up maybe?
  3. QUOTE (forrestg @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 03:06 PM) In Logan's last 11.1 inning pitched he's given up 14 earned runs.. I believe there would be room for improvement. He's got talent he just needs to spend a little time down at Charlotte to recoup for coop. I hate it when people prove me wrong..great pitching and hitting by konerko, swish, Alexei and Carlos great fieliding by Juan..............
  4. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 02:30 PM) This should be a landslide.I was only 10 when the sox won the pennant.. Nellie fox's numbers don't really do justice to what he could do with a bat.. I swear he coud take any pitch and place it anyplace.. he could hit the ball where they weren't.. Another person not name but great for notoriety was Dick Allen. The ball coming off his bat sounded like a ball coming off of Thome's bat.. Every ball was a line drive hit somewhere to any part of the spacious Comiskey park. His homers were line drives barely clearing the fence. The sound of his bat hitting the ball echoed throughout old Comiskey.. Alas his other sport Horse racing took too much of his time.. I was once told that he might have been the greatest Baseball Talent that ever played the game... i know there was and is greater baseball players but when he came to bat you dropped everything because he could make something happen. He was my favorite.
  5. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 02:38 PM) I think it was Eyre. Howry just told it like it is. He didn't say anything that was not true about the Sox or Sox fans. Sox fans just took it that way. Eyre IIRC was talking major stuff about our organization though. In Logan's last 11.1 inning pitched he's given up 14 earned runs.. I believe there would be room for improvement. He's got talent he just needs to spend a little time down at Charlotte to recoup for coop.
  6. QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 08:15 PM) It'll be Contreras. I'd like to see what Poreda can do up here, but it's probably still a bit soon for him.I'm hoing it is brad Eldred that boy is big ... I'm sure he would do well in a melee.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 09:52 PM) I actually think the Twins problem this year is that they had better players waiting in the wings but they wanted to go with s***ty veterans instead; in some regard, it was to limit the playing time, and in others, it was probably just a failure in determining how good their own players actually were. How can you defend the Monroe, Livan, and Lamb signings? They signed Adam Everett to start at SS for them, but he's merely a late inning defensive replacement now a days as Nick Punto is their everyday SS (who is apparently a good hitter again, which is a big WTF?!). I also don't think losing Neshek was that big of a loss...Nathan, Reyes, Guerrier, and Crain have all had plenty of success before, though Crain being as good as he has been this shortly after surgery is pretty incredible. And nothing they ever do surprises me with their bullpen...Gardenhire might be the best bullpen manager in all of baseball. The twinkies have 21 games remaining in the dome and 30 on the road we have 30 games at home and 22 on the road true we have about 14 with good teams they have about 6 + us. this is going to have to be a terific home stand.. we can take the lead here and we have to keep it.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 10:03 PM) I almost feel sorry for Richard. My god have they teed off on him. There is no reason for him to throw another pitch for the big league team again this season. Next candidate, step up, son. Is it gonna be Haeger? I mean is it unanimous here that Richard cannot throw a pitch for the Sox again this season? He is brutal.I too would not like to chance seeing him pitch for our sox this year but he did look good striking Hamilton and others in the Texas line up. I don't believe he has enough poise to handle it right now.. however i wouldn't give up on him just yet.. He was thrown into the fire unmercifully I wouldn't be surpried to see him at spring training.. he does need some seasoning.. He's not ready for the fork he's not done yet... Buehrle didn't pitch much better yesterday...
  9. QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 08:42 PM) I'm thinking we win the World Series this year and then Griffey chooses to retire... going out on top. Problem solved. Thome hits lefties better and Griffey hits right handers better.. About 4 out 5 pitchers we'll face are right handers so Thome doesn't quite make enough plate appearances.. By platooning Thome against lefties and Junior against riighties. We choose whoever we choose from whomever has the best las 2 months.. If Griffey could play a decent first base or maybe if Dye could play first that would open up a lot of possibilities. Neither Swisher nor Konerko have shown they are golden glove fielders at first.. Swisher has the distinction of not being a suitable fielder at 2 positions.
  10. QUOTE (Cowch @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 07:08 PM) This game....this whole series is extremely important. I'm all for putting them 6.5 back. So let's get it going tonight. I hate those pesky pyranna.
  11. QUOTE (tommy @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 07:01 PM) CSN+ which in my area is CLTV In my area it is root for the brewers on CSn against the cubx and listen to the sox game on the score.
  12. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 01:17 PM) your beginning thread says the sox are on CSN unless there is a csn 2 the cubs vs brewers are in that spot. Anybody know what station
  13. QUOTE (tommy @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 01:46 PM) Wassermann, 27, is 1-0 with a 1.67 ERA in 24 games with Charlotte this season.Wasserman for a while was lights out pitching to right hand batters.. and didn't prove much last time in the bigs.. Ozzie likes his relievers now to go at least an inning.. Childers has shown at least this season that he can at least pitch to both righties and lefties with an equal amount of success. I hope Wasserman can be lights out again.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 09:10 AM) We have our long reliever and the guy to replace Danks if he breaks down because of innings. Not to mention there was talk of making him a closer originally when we traded for him... He would be a tough reliever with that forkball. Article from white sox .com says that he was hit by a cedeno line drive on june 27th. Contreras tried to pitch through pain wasn't 100%. Although he has pitched well enough and completed many games. I believe would be more effective if he knew that he wouldn only have to pitch an inning or a few innings might increase his effectiveness.. He may have a little trouble concentrating and getting fatigued.. Once relegated to the bullpen he will clamoring at the bit to start again and may return to a starting roll with increased vigor and effectiveness.
  15. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 22, 2008 -> 11:42 PM) It's just crazy how far and how fast he fell.wasn't it last year there was a rumor of a trade Abreu for Dye. this year that would have been a bad trade... i think if there was an even trade where KW could get a better value and the other team would agree i think he might pull the trigger.. a player playing under his capabilities who gets for another player playing under his capabilities.. say contreras, or konerko for another under performing pitcher or first baseman with both doing better in different scenery or having a better second half..
  16. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 21, 2008 -> 10:43 AM) Currently Fields is the best 3B under contract for 2009 amen.
  17. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 07:13 PM) You forgot leftover stress from his divorce and child visitation rights.my bad
  18. QUOTE (bogie @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 07:13 PM) too late. should have traded him when he was pitching well 5 weeks ago. We all knew that wasn't going to last.... top ten excuses 1. we should have traded him 5 weeks ago 2. Jose has an emotional loss [pablo] remember his problems working through a divorce 3. Jose's lack of velocity 4. Jose shaking off signs from the catcher until catcher agrees to fork ball 5. Jose's reliance on the fork ball 6. put him on dl then onto a 2 month rehab assignment 7.trade him 8.Figure cooper can fix him he's our # 5 starter 9. send hi to the bullpen and bring up, my guess, is Clayton Richard presently pitching the best for Charlotte. 10. Do a carbon dating system thing on him and see how old he really is 40+ 50+or 65
  19. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 01:51 PM) Bengie Molina is slower and I still think Thome is pretty darn slow. I met paulies dad, Hank, once at the sox angels game in tempe arizona.. My friend didn't realize that konerko's dad was sitting in front of us. I only told his dad you can tell he is frustrated and once he gets his confidence he'll be hitting the ball batter.. my friend ,of course, not realizing who was in front of us. Was yelling Konerko sucks we need to get rid of the bum or worse.. Well; Hank's friend bought me a beer but my friend was excluded. Once my friend finally realized why he didn't get a beer he left his seat only to go into an empty seat about 7 rows further up. I too get upset with Konerko I know when there is a possiblility of driving in runs Konerko has shown a preference to hitting into double plays, popping out in the infield, striking out or hitting ground balls in the infield which of course are automatic outs to the not so fleet of foot.. When he's hot he does the impossible.. So could someone give him some confidence pills or something.. Presently we play better without him. I like Swisher at first and either Brian or Wise in platoon in center who both field better than swisher in cf.. At first defensively I have began to change my mind as to which plays better d at first I always though Paulie couldn't be beat.
  20. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 07:52 AM) Cole Armstrong is hitting .550 in his first 10 games in AAA (21/38). Not a bad way to react to a promotion. How good is his defensive skills and handling of pitchers.. Can he throw out base stealers.. I can't find much info on him.
  21. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 08:37 PM) One thing I do want to say...besides Paulie's pathetic D...just WHY IN THE HELL is Crede playing 10 feet off the line with a righthander up in a 1-run game?!? i think that we could put either Brian or Wise in center as defensive replacements. I believe they would have a bettter chance than Swisher on the balls hit by teahen and guillen and why would Ozzie play paulie against Greinke when he only has 3 hits in 30 at bats previously against him.......
