  1. QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 11:04 AM) Thornton really only has like 2 pitches....yes he is very effective when he comes in and throws strikes....I just don't think a closer should have only one strong pitch....Dotel for me...thornton has 2 pitches.. could be I wonder why he hasn't developed a third.. perhaps it may be because of the role Ozzie delegate to him.. Anyway, I was listening to the score that was being broadcasted from the "Cork And Carry" with Cooper being interviewed he was asked of there was any talent in the miners deserving attention.. He mentioned Clayton Richard he is a starter presently with some pretty good numbers. We've take a lot of starters and tried to make relievers out of them is Richard anywhere ready to make the move to make the staff. Not necessarily as the closer but to replace Jenks on the roster while he is on the dl so another of our relievers can fill in as the closer. I believe he has all of his options available.. He works fast. Faster than Gibson I've read.. Since he is a starter allthough not stated in any articles i've read he should have a repetoire of more than 2 pitches.........
  2. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 10:30 AM) With the smoke Dotel was throwing last night, I have no problem moving him to closer i feel more confident when Thornton comes to the mound.. His whip is lower than Dotel and also feel that he is capable of going more innings and being the strongest closer.. Thornton also mentioned that he would like to be a starter in an earlier interview.. the lefty closer I believe is a better idea.
  3. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 01:12 PM) Wise is not the answer to our leadoff problem. Let's remember that the only reason he's on the team is b/c PK is on the DL. If not for that he'd be in Charlotte. Wise is probably just another AAAA player and will not give us a better chance at winning by batting 1 instead of OC who's hitting great over the last month. Quentin wasn't meant to be our savior either.. He made the team instead of Owens.. Where would we be with Owens? I really like Brian he's improved much.. To put Wise in the #1 spot would be an experiment but the Cabrera might take that as an insult and throw a tantrum.. A selfless hitter with results is needed in the #1 and 2 spots.. Cabrera has his own agenda.. I would love to follow this experiment.. I like what Aj brings in the #2 hole but I can see Alexei hitting #2 also.. As far as Wise playing so far.. I'd say he deserves a spot whether he'll keep it up I'd say he should remain and I always go by the words from the song" when you're hot you're hot" he's a better option than Swisher in center I wonder if Wise can play first.......................................
  4. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 02:27 PM) Also, when one team actually beats most of the teams they play and the other doesn't, it can make up for the slight difference in win differential, although I admit I don't know for sure how both teams fared in interleague play. I have had a problem with the fairness of our schedule for some time.. Purely state sometimes we would play the angels or the yankees 9 games while others in our division played them only 6.. Is it possible with the aid of a computer for each team in our division to play the same oponents within a game or so every year.. Even if that means that we play the brewers, the reds, the cards, and whoever the tigers play.. Each team in our division should have 162 games against the same foes. Myself, We can do without the cross town classic..I've been to Cubs Sox games and believe me I'd rather work as a correctional center guard with hardened criminals intent on killing me like I did for 21 years rather than one game with those "riff raff ~!@#$^ cub fans!
  5. QUOTE (letsgoarow @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 03:23 PM) http://www.sportsbybrooks.com/millionaire-...rd-flight-18468 Hopefully this is some media miscommunication. Does not seem like something Mark would do. Im guessing the Dad was joking and the media took it the wrong way. Thoughts? Prohibitive airfares.. Im a father albeit not one that has a son that makes millions a year.. Sometimes a father doesn't have to take his son's money.. To Mark it might not be as great a deal and his father.. After all his dad witnessed him win a world series game.. His dad might not enjoy the lime light on occasions such as these. I would say it is no big deal..
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 08:40 AM) I was in the bleachers at Wrigley 2 years ago when they played the Tigers (it was the one time I actually cheered for the Cubs and Detroit smoked them), and I noticed the same thing. Anytime you even tried to stand up for anything, even an exciting play, there would be a security guard immediately telling you to sit down. I have never seen that anywhere else and didn't make any sense to me...The last time I was at Wrigley field was in 92 the cubs had a roving band playing in the stands.. With a crowd under 4000 people a person could really enjoy the game.. I think the band member may have also been the security force.
  7. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 10:08 PM) I kinda think it's planned. I believe Wimpy would take PBP duties a couple of innings too. Anyway, I liked Brenly on national broadcasts. He's a smart guy. I think he's forcing liking the Cubs...which for a broadcaster...not so good. Jeez, how can anyone stand the cubs on radio or tv.. Althe fill in time is about how much they love the cubs fan.. I wonder sometimes does sucking up to the fans and the players get old.. I loved Wimpy he made the the Hawk sound stupid.. Wimpy truly knew the game.. I miss him.. I believe his brother , John Paciorec, retired from baseball with a 1.000 batting average. After getting a career ending energy in his first mlb game in which he had 3 hits and 2 walks. in 1963 .
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 04:29 PM) Richar still may well have a place on this team next year, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if he wound up starting at 2nd base next April. His injury set him back quite a while, he's only hitting .235 on the season, but in his last 10 games he's hitting .303 and showing some gradual improvement. He's been known as a streaky hitter, he catches fire for a few weeks and his numbers could look a lot more respectable. His first month for all we know was probably just spring training for him. Streaky hitters..Hmm, don't we have enough streaky players now.. I like Alexei I believe he has yet to reach his potential..Beckham might be that clutch hitter with Alexei they could become the new dynamic duo.. Hopefully they can comeclose to Fox and Aparicio. I hope Beckham has as much range as Alexei at second...............
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 09:46 PM) Navarro has a higher batting average and OPS than AJ, and has 1 fewer HR and 1 fewer RBI in 186 at bats compared to AJ's 254. There's something to be said for reliability, but just on pure numbers, well, AJ has the same OPS as Miguel Olivo. It will always be unfair as long as there is a big market team or a popular player.. As a youngster I loved seeing my favorit willie mays play. trouble was willie was popular and later in his career was selected in lieu of a more talented player.. When the player and coaches picked the team we probably did see the best national and american league teams that they could field..Of course as a fan that took us out of the equation.. Big market teams have more people to promote their players.. personally, I have little interest in the all star game.. I'd rather see every sox player get some rest.. After all we have to play a lot better because we have some extrodinary challenges from now till the end of the season.. If I could pick one person it would of course be Carlos Quentin it would be my guess that if the players chose they would have him in the starting lineup........... He's a player's player
  10. Can we deal someone for a young catcher with a good arm hopefully hit in the .250s would be fine, I am tired of runners stealing bases at will. If we don't want to lose AJs bat play him at first.
  11. Actually with 2 hits last night Wise is up to .182 that would be 2 for 11. We need a good hitting lefty in the line up. i hope he catches whatever Alexei and Carlos have.. So far in his first 11 at bats he is ahead of another great whitesox left handed hitting player in his first 11 oh wait wasn't it 45 at bats he went hitless, Robin Ventura..........................
  12. QUOTE (tommy @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 08:16 PM) Congrats i have see some whitesox cloth material .. one can cover some existing bumper pads and make some sheets from it
  13. QUOTE (sf_soxfan @ May 31, 2008 -> 02:40 AM) those are some abhorrent, dismal numbers. gross. Its all about the money. Swish wasn't helped by the lineup change. By his own admission is trying to do too much..KW because he was a much publicized offseason move want him to be more than what he is.. He is a well paid adequate center fielder who we must play because a lesser paid great centerfielder is under appreciated by Ozzie.. I like Wise he too plays center better than Swish but Ozzie must have this Makowiak syndrome to keep playing him there despite the results.. They say a fool is somebody that does the same thing over and over again expecting different results.
  14. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ May 30, 2008 -> 11:49 PM) I got excited at the game when I saw Uribe taking grounders at 3rd. I assumed that meant he was going to the Utility role, but this frustrates me. Uribe can have good d at 2nd, short and third Ramirez is playing better d at short and third that leaves Pablo who we all love out. We might see Uribe playing short giving Cabrera some much needed rest for his body and the press box a rest from his calls.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 28, 2008 -> 01:57 AM) I agree about Konerko and the 15 day DL. Why not? We won't be out of the race after the next 15 days, knock on wood. It sounds like that's not a good injury for a power hitter. how about the 90 day dl
  16. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ May 27, 2008 -> 05:32 PM) Quentin-Hamilton-Bradley I liked it better when the players picked the all stars.. It was more fair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 24, 2008 -> 05:00 AM) Why burn an option on Getz? Why call up Jerry Owens when his OPS is sub-.600? The call-up is easy. After Uribe is activated, you hope Wise has either shown he's a capable 4th outfielder and you can trade Anderson for a 2B-leadoff type, that he's bad enough that you can DFA him and he'll accept an assignment to AAA, or he's shown enough that you can get a piece, any piece for him. Period. I'm not really for a Durham trade that involves Anderson because I love the s*** out of Anderson and I think there are a few other pieces the Giants would like more, but it is what it is. Anderson's not nearly as untouchable to me as Fields is, so you do what you feel is necessary. I'm not for it, not against it. Wise was brought up because he can hit and from the minor league is our best left hand hitter off the bench.. he can play all the outfield positions.. I looked at Swisher's stats he does not do well from the left side against righties.. If we are going to give Wise a shot try him against some righties and take Swish out for a game or so. We face right handers at least 60% of the time.. Maybe it could be a regular platoon thing if it works...
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 27, 2008 -> 12:56 AM) Swisher probably had his best all around game at the plate today (despite not having a bunch of hits, he hit the ball hard to all fields today). I've noticed his swing plane getting much more level and I think he's actually got things figured out and we'll see that. I too like the way Swish hit the ball today.. BA defensively can get to a lot more balls than Swisher thus could save us a few runs a game.. Swish is more of a corner outfielder. However we do have two great outfielders.. I think Swish at first giving Konerko some time to rehabilitate that bad hand..
  19. QUOTE (29andPoplar @ May 20, 2008 -> 04:17 PM) Right now I think White Sox management is in wait and see mode. Wait and see exactly what kind of team they have, i.e. will this offense finally wake up, will the pitching hold up, which way will the other teams in the division trend, etc. My guess is they remain in this mode until about June 15th. Because the White Sox are in the thick of the race, they feel they can afford to be patient with some of these underachievers. Not that I necessarily agree, on some of them anyway. Guys like Ramirez, Uribe, Wasserman will get more time but not too much ... as I mentioned about another month. As for additions, the Ray Durham conjecture in the other thread makes sense, at least on the surface. The Giants are playing him now and I am thinking they want to increase whatever trade value he has. Durham, if healthy, can help. However the hamstrings are a concern although he tends to play through minor injuries. Sox pro scouts will have to judge how much his defense has declined. As many here know, the White Sox are loving Uribe's defense at 2B. how about larry Dewain Weis vs Right .356 104 24 37 10 3 6 14 13 18 9 5 .442 .683 1.124
  20. CQ is a hell of a player and for 4 more years he's under our control.. How about a performance based contract.. So much for so many at bats so much for home runs RBIs, if he makes the al star team.. Allow him to earn more than 5 million maybe he could earn 10 with incentives.. If he hurts his shoulder and doesn't produce we can still take care of CQ.. Allow CQ to make his own paycheck like so many of us who read about our baseball heroes.. Perhaps it will catch on.. Carlos can earn more and the club gets par value.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 13, 2008 -> 07:46 AM) Even so, he still could have recovered and kept us in the game, but the Angels dinked I think the first 6 runs or so were off little infield hits or dribblers through the hole, its frustrating. Those little hits have plagued Buehrle watching on tv it is amazing how whatever team plays the sox gets them. Sox players nearly never get those little bloopers.. Is this just luck or could we do this.. In 05 we were getting a lot of breaks like that. Can this be taught to our players or do you think it is just our luck on the part of our opponents?
  22. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ May 12, 2008 -> 10:11 PM) LMMFAO at Thome for Clement. I wish.wouldn't it be cool to be watching a sox game with the other team at bat and a runner is off on a steal Clement throws him out.. Wow... You know ...when a lion and other beast are picking their prey from a herd they usually pick the slowest ones.. This is called "natural selection" in AJs and Hall's cases I believe they are practicing this instinct and thus perpetuating the "circle of life".
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 11, 2008 -> 11:53 AM) This is the first page (for me), and it is random. So there.Thome might not have Seattle on his approved teams but they are in dire need of a DH. We are in dire need of a catcher we currently have none unless Lucy can come back from a dislocated knee cap.. Timing wouldn't be better for us to try and trade Thome for Clement.. Besides Johima the Mariners have a very capable catcher by the name of Burke so they could afford to trade Clement. Clement is a good defensive catcher is patient at the plate and hyas a terrific upside. We on the other have many hitters that could step in to replace Thome......Oh we could also throw in Hall, and pablo.
  24. QUOTE (rangercal @ May 8, 2008 -> 12:02 PM) If the sox Must have a fire sale, they might as well do it right. as far as hitters go: Keepers Carlos Quinten Nick Swisher Brian Anderson Josh Fields AJ Pierzynski Danny Richar Fire Sale Jim Thome Paul Konerko Jermaine Dye Joe Crede Juan Uribe Orlando Cabrera Pablo Ozuna Needs First Base Shortstop You forgot Hall and possibly think of an an ajp replacement... We missed an oppurtunity to get Olivo in the offseason he was a very good defensive catcher and is now showing that he can hit... I was totally baffled by the signing of Uribe, Dye and I actually see why the sox picking up OC could have been good. One thing that has been happening it has been feast or famine.. The Sox can't run how long did the lineup contain Thome. Konerko, Dye, Crede and Pierzynski.. These guys who each have contributed greatly to the Sox together create a clog in the lineup.. Konerko needs a double to be brought in from third base.. My thoughts is that we need to inject a lot more speed in the lineup.. We could trade with teams who have speedy power hitters who are lacking slow encumbered power hitters.. How many years do we have to endure men in scoring position no one out and we can't get a run... 1hit 2 hitsor few hits and our players need to start making contact maybe hitting the ball the other way and even sacrificing themselves for the good of the team.. Pitching is good enough and the hitting sucks.. DO something and do it quick while these guys have a little value.........
