  1. QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 2, 2008 -> 10:28 PM) Well, he did go to Stanford, so he has smarts. I'm sure he has a degree to fall back on, if baseball or coaching falls through. It would be a huge shame if his career is over though, he always brought his lunchpail to work with him.Any further news on his injury
  2. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 5, 2008 -> 09:34 PM) Am I the only one that thinks he should have scored back in the beginning of the ballgame, and was too busy picking his nose or something to notice that the softly hit ball should have allowed anyone other than Paulie to score?Fields did not play for charlotte last night........
  3. QUOTE (daa84 @ May 2, 2008 -> 06:53 PM) uhhhh that looked pretty clearly inside...i hope mark takes advantage of a big inside strikezone I can't believe what I just saw.. The umpire clapped his hands as Marcum struck out THome. any bias on the umpire's part?
  4. QUOTE (Jim Spencer @ May 2, 2008 -> 06:53 AM) Visa problems It could be as simple as not obtaining a passport I never had a reason to obtain one.
  5. . Here are 3 moves we can make send Ramirez to Charlotte although not much of a sampling on Don Lucy bring him up and send Toby down to Charlotte to rehab his shoulder more. and take a look at this guy who has what Ozzie and KW like a good on base percentage has played at the major league level. Would be if Swisher is moved to first our only left hand hitting outfielder and has shown he can steal a few bags although not as fast as Owens: Great upside his Full Name: Larry Dewayne Wise 2008 Season Team League AVG G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO SB CS OBP SLG OPS CHA INT .373 24 83 19 31 7 1 5 10 55 11 14 8 3 .448 .663 1.111 Minors .373 24 83 19 31 7 1 5 10 55 11 14 8 3 .448 .663 1.111
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 29, 2008 -> 11:52 AM) TCSN: Would A Change at the Top Benefit the White Sox By IamShack Maybe the second coming of Richar would help.. Towards the end of last season he really started to show some promise. I believe he eventually could become our leadoff guy...
  7. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Apr 29, 2008 -> 03:52 PM) Nanita is a solid hitter. He makes a lot of contact. Every at bat he fouls off 4-5 pitches. His nickname is "Mr. Souvenir." The Southern League is a tough league, so his numbers could be just as good at AAA or in the majors. I think he was hindered last year by Richie Hebner being his batting coach. His philosophy made the Barons the worst hitting team in 2007. Wes Clements is the new hitting coach, and although the averages aren't great, the Barons are hitting smarter and competing. Regions Park is the hardest place in the minors to hit for power. 340 down the lines and 405 to center, and no wind blowing out ever, just swirling. He's also a decent outfielder, can play all three spots and apparently 1st base in a pinch. He does have a very strange batting stance though. He holds his bat over his head and doesn't stand very still.thanks Jpn366 . In the national league there is a lot of platooned players. What is wrong with a good platoon player.. The sox could use a hitter that can hit lefties.. We all love Crede and Quentin however; both of their averages and obp would be higher if they didn't have to hit against southpaws.. Fields wouldn't be bad to have around on those days we face a lefty. He hits lefties almost as well as righties/ Usually a team has 4 right handed and one lefty starter. Sometime a couple of lefties in the pen. That would be 40 out of 162 not counting the games decided when a left handed reliever pitches.
  8. Ricardo Nanita of birmingham BArons has some impressie numbers against left handers.. We have dye and Swisher in the outfield that can hit lefties but this Nanita has some terrific numbers so far against southpaws.. How good is he.. Can he field? Would those numbers translate to triple A or the majors. We still don't have a good left hand hitting team.. Fields "07 numbers were good against lefties.. Owens is also good against soutpaws. Splits: (Current team only) Barons Entire Season AVG G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS OBP SLG OPS vs Left .435 23 8 10 3 0 2 7 2 3 2 1 .462 .826 1.288 vs Right .271 59 3 16 2 0 0 6 2 7 2 2 .290 .305 .595 How close is he? If he can be platooned against lefties that would be great . That would fulfill a need............ W e are horrible against lefties.. Any thoughts?
  9. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 27, 2008 -> 01:01 PM) : "So far this season MacDougal's outings have rated at: 0.21, 0.03, 0.00, 0.23, 0.90, 0.02, 0.03 and 1.19 (yesterday) so thus far this season Ozzie has used Mac in a grand total of 1 high leverage situation, last night, and he wound up retiring one hitter while putting a couple on base. In his other nearly high leverage situation (0.90 vs OAK) Mac failed to record an out but did allow a single (fell behind 2-0, got back to 2-2 then allowed the hit) and a walk (fell behind 2-0, threw a strike then put him on with 2 more balls). So yeah Ozzie doesn't trust him --and rightfully so -- so there's no reason at all to have him on the big club. I wonder? I believer the Whitesox have found one way sending him down to Charlotte. I question one thing when he pitches he looks like he has no consistent footwork , landing point, and release point. None of these factors have improved since he put on a Sox uniform.. Maybe it is the uniform that is slowing his progress. He might do better with another teams apparel. Maybe somebody would give us something for him.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 25, 2008 -> 01:34 PM) OBP in front of clutchness. when it comes to a number 2 hitter I believe Iguchi was ideal just as Frank Thomas said he had the best hands in the buisiness.. Who on the sox has the best bat control.. Who puts the bat on the ball and places it... Nellie Fox could place the ball it is a "matter of hitting it where they aint" I know this is also a matter of hitting both righties and lefties.. I don't know. Joe did a great job with chamberlain's pitch last night.. I believe the team will do better trying to go the other way against overwhelming pitchers.. Wow..primary reason.........I don't want a repeat or fast or famine with our hitting we've had in recent years and a few of our 08 games.........
  11. "Here's an idea: Uribe has looked completely inept at the plate this year and Alexei has looked over matched for the most part in his limited ABs. So, why not play someone who can actually get the bat on the ball and can realistically hit near .300? (Ozuna) " Ozuna has historically been a catalyst to this team also maybe it's time to use Swisher at first and use Anderson who is hitting well at center.
  12. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 06:08 PM) There's only one true solution. Bench Nick Swisher. I'm sorry I started this thread.. Brian looked horrible at the plate! I think Uribe is Brian's hero. He's copied his wild swing. Only Brian's swing is a lot longer. It was a good time to play him with the sox leading by10...
  13. I believe he can hit.. 2006 he had a few bad months but did hit well above the Mendoza line in july and August of 2006.. July 22 64 9 20 7 0 1 7 2 13 2 1 .313 .328 .469 .797 august 26 71 11 21 5 1 1 7 6 13 0 3 .296 .367 .437 .804 I think we have a talent here and no one on the sox staff to develop it...This is a 135 ab sample............
  14. Paulie is struggling at the plate. Batting just 3 for 16 .188, I'm sure he'll start hitting..Today, against Verlander, we could let Paulie sit out . We let Konerko sit out today start Swisher, who would bat left handed, at first and use Anderson in Swishers spot?
  15. QUOTE(forrestg @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 07:50 PM) I'm sorry, Balta .. I missed that. I assumed when farmer said that quentin got the last roster spot that Anderson was out........ Sorry. outfield because of Owens on the dl
  16. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 07:23 PM) Anderson wasn't sent down. I'm sorry, Balta .. I missed that. I assumed when farmer said that quentin got the last roster spot that Anderson was out........ Sorry.
  17. The question is either Wasserman or Masset.. So far KW and Ozzie haven't done what I expected.. Hall throws to second like he's throwing popups to a kid, fields and Anderson are sent down. Nothing makes less sense than Masset but he can be a long reliever and a starter. A pitcher who can go a lot of innings and give up a lot of runs. This is as opposed to a reliever like Wasserman who can actually retire batters.
  18. QUOTE(Disco72 @ Mar 23, 2008 -> 09:26 PM) The sub-topics (topic descriptions) that the moderators are adding to some of these threads lately are absolutely hilarious. Overreacting ?Wasn't weak hitting Dye's m.o. last season. His weak hitting lasted until August or september. He brought it up to some decent level by the end of the season.
  19. Are we getting a repeat of last year with Dye now hitting only .179 in spring training? Maybe the 2005 world series MVP should be the one not on the 25 man roster. We are paying him a ton we can't afford a slow start from anyone starting this season......................
  20. QUOTE(joeynach @ Mar 23, 2008 -> 03:51 PM) Thats kinda what Im saying it seems our schedules has more extremes than others. Longer road and home stands, months with either ton of home games or a ton of road games. I would like to things a little but more balanced I guess, maybe thats just the engineer in me talking. No team is ready for cold april baseball after playing spring training. For the civil rights game I would not send the whole team. allowing several of our starting players to go to chicago so they can acclimate themselves to our weather.
  21. QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 23, 2008 -> 06:46 PM) We already had softball. When I was a kid we had little styrofoam wls sunballs. Not every car has an antennae. Mine does I would have a sox talk sun ball proudly diplayed.. I would even wear a "sox talk" t-shirt if one were available. How about giving the t- shirt a slogan like soxtalk. "A history of winning ugly not a history of losing cute"
  22. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 8, 2008 -> 07:58 PM) I'd take last years version of Rowand as my 3 hitter any day of the week. In fact, If Rowand produces like he did last year his contract will be a bargain. I doubt he does, but I think that will be due to him playing in such a pitchers park more than him playing so over his head last year. Note: I don't think he'd duplicate last season, but I actually think he signed a pretty fair contract. He's a better offensive player than he was on Chicago and if he stays healthy his contract won't be a bad one. However, it won't necessarily be a good one either because San Fran is just so far away, imo. How about trading Crede to the dodgers for top prospect CHin-Lung-Hu.
  23. QUOTE(ballyb11 @ Mar 8, 2008 -> 06:44 PM) Agree about Jason Bourgeois. But we're paying Ozuna so it won't happen this year. Bourgois plays a better center field and is a decent infielder has a little more utility. we could trade Ozuna..
  24. Every year on every team we have some non roster invitees. Here is a list of ours.. 25. QUOTE(joesaiditstrue @ Mar 2, 2008 -> 03:43 PM) it's only spring, yadda yadda ("He yadda yadda'd me!") Vazquez, J IP:2.1 H:5 R:5 ER: 4 BB:2 SO:3 HR:2 ERA:15.43 why no game threads today? Not sure about the game threads. I have read that spring training is not a true indicator of what a pitcher can perform. javy for instance may be working in a new delivery.. I have faith in Javy what choice do we have?
