  1. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 27, 2008 -> 11:22 PM) Florida owes us too I'm a sox fan but I would welcome the thought of the cubs playing one season at the cell. First it brings the possibility of the cubs having a great team and possibly winning the world series. Especially if the northsiders haven't won in the years before playing at the cell. Since the cubs have never won a world series at Wrigley their losing ways. Imagine waiting over 100 years for a world series and then win it the series at the cell. I also see the possiblility of the cell drawing 3 to 4 million in a single year. Wouldn't matter to me where the profits go. Another possibility is the world series sox vs. the cubs at the cell that year for it all.... Im not nostrodamus but if both the cubs and sox played at the cell we would probably see more attractions, restaurants and bars being built around the cell.
  2. QUOTE(flavum @ Feb 12, 2008 -> 07:40 AM) I can't imagine Anderson being with the Sox when position players report on the 21st. I think he gets traded before then.anerson like Crede our recovering from injuries and not porven. I dout Anderson's bad left wrist has not allowed him to hit against live pitching as of yet. Therefore I don;t believe any deal will happen untill he shows scouts that he can swing a bat.. I say Charlotte for Brian.
  3. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 9, 2008 -> 06:54 PM) Last year, Juan Uribe had a .678 OPS. Julio Lugo had a .643 OPS in more at bats. Juan Uribe's career OPS is .722. Lugo's is .728. Last year, Juan Uribe was #4 in MLB in Range Factor for shortstops (I know, I know, its not the best number but it's still useful). Julio Lugo was 20th. Uribe turned more DP's and had a couple fewer errors...and no one in their right mind will argue that Lugo is a quality fielding shortstop. Lugo has had better seasons in his career but so has Uribe. Taking defense into account, Uribe was better than Lugo last year. By quite a bit too. If Juan is better defensively I would play Uribe.. After all If juan had a different hitting coach may mean Juan OPS could rise to .822
  4. QUOTE(iamshack @ Feb 1, 2008 -> 09:55 AM) Well, I respect them. Let's put it that way. And they have slowly grown on me. Do I still disagree with their philosophy? Yes. I think there are so many unquantifiables in the game of baseball that affect the game, that they don't really recognize. Anderson with his fielding ability I don't see why the whitesox couldn't give him a 20 % points on his average. He did one month hit for a 300 average in 06 .. Again, I'm not an ozzie fan when it comes to player development.
  5. QUOTE(chisox2334 @ Jan 28, 2008 -> 08:53 AM) from cowley Second base will be the biggest spring battle, with Danny Richar, Juan Uribe, Alexei Ramirez and Pablo Ozuna each getting a look. Jerry Owens and Carlos Quentin could be headed for a platoon situation in the outfield, while Brian Anderson is headed for a National League team in a trade. anyone tell me why cowely is always jumping the gun with w sox rumors and thing? Anderson said in so many words he is in the best shape of his life. He now knows what he missed with a chip on his shoulder. He willl show up for spring training. But so far since his left wrist injury last year he has not batted against live pitching. This may be the right time to adjust his swing. What I believe the old saying it is easier to teach someone to hit than to field. As for fielding he's as good as any better than most. I think Brian will not be disgarded he's already been quoted as changing his attitude now he needs to change his swing.
  6. QUOTE(SoxPride56 @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 01:09 PM) Which makes you think... If you go back to post 125, there was a guy from WSI that said his source told him the deal would happen at the end of Jan. Maybe there is something to that. I know he was right on about Quientin, so maybe its legit. Anyway, here is the post that I am talking about.this shelby looks very promising had a good rookie year at Kannapolis. Power, stolen base rbis and hit for avg..
  7. QUOTE(ROC Sox Fan @ Dec 17, 2007 -> 09:53 PM) I'm wondering; I didn't start reading these forums until right after the 05' season, so I consider myself a little out of the loop. Has the doom and gloom been this bad every off-season prior to 05 or is part of it brought on from heightened expectations from the World Series. I love the Quentin pick-up and that alone has me excited about 08; and I also believe in Danks and to an extent Floyd; and of course Fields and Richar. Maybe I'm just too optimistic. the only reason I started this thread is every day I go to sox talk expecting some trade to take place that is when I realize we have so many "ifs" coming into spring training.
  8. A lot of this sox talk on the negative side. There could be some very bright spots. Uribe could return about 20lbs lighter.... Joe Crede's back could be good as new.. Our relievers that we sent down may actually have found the strike zone. Sweeney and Anderson may look major league ready.. Konerko, crede Uribe even Contreras could be traded.......
  9. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Dec 8, 2007 -> 01:12 PM) Yeah, it's 25.We could make 25 games without him with luck........After that we could make 136 games with him maybe bettter luck.............
  10. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 04:55 PM) any more news coming out on this deal? Brian Roberts would solve many problems indeed. why couldn't the sox include Richar in the trade? Can you imagine how solid that double play combo would be at SS and 2B? I'd say to go along with the name they are losing. How about Thome, Uribe and a pitcher Floyd and some cash for Roberts and Bedard. We can use Dye at DH trade paulie for Conor Jackson and we then have speed on the basepaths
  11. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 06:12 PM) Why did Erstad automatically get the job out of st last season? Ozzie doesn't like BA, he's not getting another shot here, he's just not. Erstadt equaled a grinder.. BA equaled a pretty boy in Ozzies eyes.. Erstadt had to run like crazy to get to the ball while BA took direct routes. Ba got sent down after about 19 at bats. I'm not arguing with anybody about his swing and the fact that needed to be improved.. But the whole 2007 white sox players, Dye, and Konerko, until the last couple of months seemed to be operating at the mendoza line. BA did hit well 2 out of the 6 months in 06 that shows he can do it. Texsox is right if we could use BA rather than spend 18 million better then maybe we could get a Sp like Haren and some relievers.. Sox will still have some question marks waiting at Spring training. How well can Crede play can BA look like a Major leaguer. Not to mention choosing SPS and a bullpen from all those players we sent down.
  12. QUOTE(greg775 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 12:01 AM) Chombi, I don't know where the Rowand/Royals thing was, but I read it somewhere. It said KC is offering an extra year; one of the Chicago papers. I don't understand why you don't want Rowand. We'd have the new guy in lf or Owens, Rowand in center and Dye in right. Josh at third, new guy at ss, Richar at 2B and Paulie at first. Thome at DH and AJ at catcher. Not a bad lineup. If Dye, Paulie and Thome aren't finished, they along with Fields and Rowand make a pretty good fivesome in the order with AJ (against righties). We could use a decent righthanded hitting backup catcher. But our lineup would be pretty potent on paper if we add Rowand. I am not a Rowand fan I believe his numbers would drop upon returning to the Al. Someone mentioned it before keep a healthy Crede a bargain at 5 million Fields who will be cheap trade Konerko and pay good money for Anduw Jones or a quality center fielder with money to spare........Thought of losing Paulie get over it I was devastated when they trade Aparicio. That is baseball...............
  13. QUOTE(bighurt4life @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 04:00 AM) Anyone know if we're even eligible to take a rule five pick?? Is our forty man roster full right now or what. I read that if it's full then we're not allowed to pick in the draftI beleve for us to participate in choosing someone in the ruleV draft we too have to have an opening on the 40 man roster. Is that correct ?
  14. QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 11:23 PM) I assumed he had gotten better because of how much the Marlins pitchers had progressed... but in this instance of assuming I just made myself look like an ass.how about japan... seatle found one there
  15. All this talk about bullpen relief, shortstop, centerfield how about a catcher? If AJ who is a great hitting catcher but I believe there are better defensive catchers.. How about a catcher to back up aj or eventually replace him.
  16. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 09:47 PM) If one were so inclined...one actually could find a piece of data that could be used to predict the salary of those 2 teams a few years down the road. Esp. Boston and the teams right behind it; the Luxury Tax threshold, which so far seems to have tracked the Red Sox spending pretty well (with the Angels and so on $10 mil or something like that below the amount). On the other hand how many people would line up at the gates to see someone like AROD pop out about 50 to 70 homers and almost be a guarantee to make the HOF and increase the stadium attendance after OUR dismal 2007 record. How many people would come to see the white sox and how many would come to see AROD?
  17. unless we get rid of all of our big contract players, Konerko, contreras, Garland, dye and THome, I don't see how we can afford arod.. The north side team ,Cubs, has a lot more money than us could easily add Arod regardless of change of ownership. Just think ARod has put up astounding home run, rbi and average statistics against the better american league pitching.. What would Arod do if he was in the NL central small park 70 + homers.. I hate the cubs but they would have some hitters Lee, Ramirez and Arod in a light division. There would be a lot of pressure from the cub fans and perhaps would take less to play for the Whitesox which has a more player friendly environment but I doubt it.
  18. I Never gave the Rockies an outside chance until the end of the season when they beat San Diego. They have contiued making outside chances through the playoffs and now everyone must realize the Rockies are Real no matter how much Gammons and company sing the praises of the Bosox it will be Rockies taking home that ugly winning trophy to Colorado in 5.. Boston will beat themselves like all the rest of the Rockies opponents have.. You can't beat charmed. go rockies
  19. QUOTE(TLAK @ Oct 18, 2007 -> 08:38 PM) In the history of Major League Baseball, since 1871, Uribe's dubious achievement has been exceeded by only 3 players with over 10 attempts. Zeb Terry of the 1921 Vermin went 1 for 13, Jose Vizcaino of the 1994 Mets and Eddie Yost of the 1957 Senators went 1 for 13. Our Juan was matched by Bobby Doerr, 1 for 10 with the 1939 Red Sox. By the way, Bobby Doerr is in the Hall of Fame. Thats it, out of 7,768 players who attempted 10 or more steals in years entering the 2007 season. The record for most caught steals with no success is Pete Runnels of the 1952 Senators, 0 for 10. This off season he should have time to be in a little better shape than last year..... as your remember he spent a lot of time last year sitting waiting in the court room. Sitting around court rooms is not a quickness drill.
  20. QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 02:22 PM) You heard it here first: he will be back with St. Louis within the next two years. SFF I like your thought processes.. LaRussa hasn't resigned with St Louis. Maybe it will be LaRussa to the Yanks
  21. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 4, 2007 -> 03:31 PM) I think I disagree with every single thought in this post.me too... I was trying to imitate KW's logic. However; I think Kw will resign Uribe We can be angry when that happens. His september was good.
  22. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 4, 2007 -> 10:03 AM) I'd prefer to be him, but whatever, not gonna happen, so I'll live. Get gooch.. Richar may get some playing time at ss in spring training. Uribe will be resigned. Richar could platoon at ss or second.. Besides playing short Uribe can play a decent third if we can't come to some agreement with Crede......Oh I just about forgot Ozuna who is a better infielder than outfielder he needs a spot.... Fields if he can improve at 3rd. Let see that would be Gooch,Uribe Richar, Ozuna, Crede, and Fields well Thome will have to get his glove out get a little more agile because he'll have to play there.....
  23. QUOTE(beck72 @ Sep 22, 2007 -> 07:52 PM) I was looking at his first stops of each year, going back to 2003, in which he threw much better. Then he struggled in the higher level. I remember seeing/ hearing that he made some adjustments after his initial promotions. Yet his "2nd half" numbers have been worse across the board since he's been a pro. My point was in reference made that the sox might not be high on Danks. For a guy who had only 70 innings of AAA under his belt, Danks threw very well the first three months of this year. And surprised many that he stayed up when many thought he'd be in Charlotte after only a start or two. Instead of being a disappointment to the sox, he should be considered a pleasant surprise. Esp. when no one thought he'd be helping the sox at all in 2007 coming into this year. IMO, the sox should be able to pencil in Danks as a solid, reliable #4 for 2008. And a trade of Garland or Contreras this offseason would only cement that view. Danks faced the Yankees, Cleveland, Boston and Seattle in August without a win and a 7.62 era had a similar era to a Cub pitcher who just signed a large contract who failed to win a game in August.. Neither Danks nor Zambrano won a game in August!!!
