  1. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 07:10 PM) Toilets that flush and a DH. EDIT: THought you were talking about what they can offer the fans. I guess the Sox could offer A-Rod the third base position if he still wanted to play there. Yes, unless the Cubs are sold I doubt that they will make that the current management will offer A-Rod that big of a contract. I really believe A-Rod would rather deal with the environment at U.S. Cellular.
  2. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 4, 2007 -> 12:52 PM) Sweeney was only up for I believe 23 days earlier this year, even if he were called up right now and stayed up for the remainder of the season it still wouldn't count as a year of service. So no, there are no Arb issues here. I can solve this dilemna.. Put Pods and Erstadt on the 60 day Dl.. Who would know if they are hurt or not. One or both will end up on the dl before the season's end. Bring up Bourgeous to play 3rd. If we are in need of another outfielder see if Colarro can hack it in the bigs.. RIght now the sox aren't in contention for anything but the worst record which will grant them the first pick.. They might waste that pick when they trade that number 1 pick for a later pick that they might be able to sign cheaply.
  3. QUOTE(BearSox @ Sep 3, 2007 -> 06:34 PM) As much as I dislike Eckstein, I wouldn't mind bringing him in as a bench player to back up at 2B and SS, and also bring in a real SS like Hu.Lets take a chance on Hu no matter what.
  4. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 09:20 PM) I really should have gone with "putrid" like I had originally planned.I think that Richar or a future new shortstop will be are 2008 lead off. Fields can only get better hitting (maybe less strikeouts) he may be able to play an adequate left field 3rd maybe to give Joe a day off. He definately is showing he belongs and will do big things. As far as Thome you can't beat his on base percentage. Problem next year is that there is a large clog in the line up presently and next year won't be much better. Konerko,Thome, Dye are 3, 4 and 5 are slow. Down the lineup we"ll have Crede and Aj who aren't fast. If Thome was ever moved it would still be wise to replace him with a speedy left hand hitting position player that could hit for average. Also, woudn't hurt if we had a left-handed lead off man that had a decent on base percentage, steal bases and not be satisfied with weakly hit balls that barely fall onto the outfield grass.
  5. QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 08:48 PM) That was a ridiculous decision to let Hall play hurt. To see such a big guy be a singles hitter is sad. Hope he's not around next year. He could have had the operation been healing up and ready to play now. What is our % of throwing out basestealers 6%. We need the veteran guidemenship of a Tobey Hall who might be there but for what he produced we could have found another Widger or Widger while he was out with surgery.
  6. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 08:17 PM) [green?]At least we get the 2nd pick in the draft.[/green?] I had a ticket just behind the redsox dug out for this game #2. I told my son to sell our tickets. He didn't want to go either. They are playing not one year you are playing for the division 2 years later you are playing for derision.

  8. thornton will go down to develop another pitch so he can be a starter,,,,,,,,,,,
  9. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 10:52 PM) And even then I doubt the Sox will get anything exciting in exchange for Joe. Joe might dispel any rumors of his demise in spring training.. Joe if he does well will cost us at least 4 million. If he didn't have the back problems I believe he's the best fielding 3rd baseman he may pale in comparison to some of the other 3rd baseman offensively he has the potential to hit in the 270 range with 30 + home runs and 80 + rbis with gold glove fielding ability. I think the dodger could afford him in 09 at what he's really worth. If the dodger would trade and we got Hung Lung Hu back in exchange I think that would be profitable for both teams. I know that would hinge on Joe being healthy. In another scenario we do not offer Joe arbitration and anybody can make offers for him.
  10. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 5, 2007 -> 09:41 PM) So, Jose hasn't pitched in forever then. That is enough proof for me I bought a 200 dollar Floyd Jersey.
  11. Isn't there one more rule on the waiver trade. Let us say whoever the sox decide to trade back to Baltimore for Miggy must go through waivers also. Like if the sox decided to send Pods back for Miggy any other team with a worse 06 record than the Os could claim pods. the sox would have to pull back Pods and the whole deal would be off. Am I wrong about this ?
  12. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 4, 2007 -> 05:25 PM) If the Sox go to arbitration with Crede, they can not make an offer less than 80% of the previous year's salary. Since Crede is making $4.95 million this year, the smallest offer they can make is around $4 million. It does not matter how he did this year, he's going to get at least $4 million if they decide to go to arbitration. Thanks, player union won a big concession for the players there. WHen is the deadline for arbitration. I'm sure the sox WON'T WANT to make an offer before they can see he can play or if he's capable of being the joe of old! If we can sign him we need to find a place for Fields in the outfield or at second if he can play either position effectively.
  13. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 05:19 PM) eh? sorry Kyle I met if he figured out how to get to Contreras..
  14. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 4, 2007 -> 03:38 PM) Joe Crede is a below average hitter with back concerns, an asshole of an agent, and one year left on his contract after stealing $5 million from the Sox this year. He has a replacement, so it makes perfect sense to non-tender him. We wasted $3.9 million on injury prone Pods and Erstad, and with Crede it would be no different. Get rid of him. Tell me how this arbitration will work for 2008. Crede only played a third of a season batted 216 4 hrs with a bad back. Wouldn't he be devalued from his 5 million contract due to his lack of production for the 07 season and iffy back. How much input could Boras prove or how much input does an agent at these hearings.. If we could get a low enough arbitration number we could trade him to a team more willing to obtain him at his real value.??????????????????? Oh wait if KW would trade him we would get another single A pitcher who may be ready or a complete bust in 3 years.
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 02:17 PM) One thing that is also worth thinking about is trendlines. Specifically, a pitching and hitting coach is not exactly needed as much when everything's going well as when things are going terribly. If you're hitting the cover off the ball, you don't exactly need improvement. But when you hit that week long slump and blow 3 saves or 2 starts in a row, that's when you need the pitching coach. Or when you're a rookie or kid first learning the league, that's when you need the hitting coach. In those terms, there are compiments and complaints about both. Buehrle and Garland struggled last year, but both of them pulled out of it. Contreras struggled in 04 and early 05, but pulled it together. Marte couldn't pull it together with coop. A few other guys only did for a while. Konerko and Dye have each had struggles in recent years, but pulled through them. On the other hand, you have a kid like Anderson, who was talented but who seemed to take forever to start learning anything from Walker. On Mlb home plate on xm they were interviewing some guy and he explained why some teams were scoring a lot of runs and teams like the white sox weren't. He said it was all about being patient at the plate. Teams that were scoring a lot of runs were more selective on pitches.. If you are not very good at hitting a ball in on your hands don't swing at it. A curve ball low and outside that you can't reach don't even try (Uribe) Yes, I believe it has a lot to do with the hitting coach. Every mlb team knows we are swinging for the fence every time. I think coop is not a God if he was he'd figure out el duque.
  16. QUOTE(BB2ZZ @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 07:48 AM) Nice JP, finally someone around here understands this is about people succeeding at every level. Some fools around here think people are trash if they aren't the next Willie Mays. I appreciate the fact that making All Star at AA level is an accomplishement VERY few people achieve. Even without All Star recognition those kids bust their hump to play ball. From what I've seen they practice all afternoon before each game, that sure makes it more of a job to me. Lighten up all you wanna be major league scouts, this is about people as much as it is prospects. TC is a good kid and you probably know he is pals with your boy Schnur...... the sox scouts don't seem to be rating talent jerry owens Aardsma etc. We are in desperate need of someone to add a spark to this lifless team.. Collaro may be a major bust in the majors but may pan out as well or better than some. I predicted Day because he had spent a lot of time down in the minors give Collaro a chance. I'm sure he can field and showed he can hit.. Take a chance iT WON'T BE EXPENSIVE!
  17. QUOTE(southsida86 @ Jul 4, 2007 -> 11:36 PM) Someone on the Postgame show on the Score brought up a valid point about Jose. This caller said that you don't lose 7-10 mph off your fastball from one year to the next just from aging, and the Ranger agreed. So this brings up the question, does Jose Contreras have serious damage to his shoulder? This could be a possibility, and if Jose is traded, he could fail the physical. I tend to agree that there is no way that over the course of a year that Jose's fastball could have gone from 96 mph at a maximum at this time last year to 85 mph at a minimum this year without some injury involved. Jose was topping out at 88 mph today and was mostly 85-86 with the fastball. I've come to the conclusion that he has to be hurt. I can't remember who said it but they said that Jose is not coming over the top as much he once did. More of a 3/4 delivery and with that delivery can no longer get the 95mph on the gun. Jose is pitching like he did when he came over from the Yankees. El Duque had straightened him out somewhat. What 19 wins in a row. El Duque said something to the effect of pitch like a Cuban.. Which meant something to the effect of throwing the same pitch with different arm angles. Say a curve 1/2, 3/4 or straight overhand. I believe also that jose also came off some personal issues (divorce) which got his head out of the game.. That is why I believe Jose could have a return to brilliance may be as close as returning to a team that includes El Duque (mets). Either that or put him in the pen where maybe he could work and not have to concentrate for such a long time. I think in one or 2 inning stints Contreras may hit 94+ and in the meantime bring up Floyd who can get some valuable big league experience................. OH, one more thing many seaoned major league pitchers survive long after they lose their 95 mph fastball. They become pitchers instead of throwers.
  18. QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 04:33 PM) oh ok thanks. anybody know the names of any good malls with a finish line or champs in it..? the Royal fans are terrific.. I love their park, the food and at the time, 03, the 5 dollar parking. It was a little hard for me to find my way around the city. So ask for info maybe a driver you'll have fun. The negro league hall of fame museum is located there.
  19. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 09:07 PM) Johnson may not have "looked" good but his peripheral numbers (K/9 and WHIP) simply blow Contreras away. Contreras has been every bit as bad as he suggested -- look at the K/9 K/BB ands WHIP numbers. By the end of the season that ERA is going to be way over 5. To move Contreras, the Sox will have to eat most of contract and expect to to get back nothing. That's just the reality of the situation. Contreras reverted back to the Contreras of old.
  20. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 02:55 PM) I'm talking about El Duque right now, not two years ago. Randy Johnson looked nowhere near in as good of physical shape as Contreras last year. Contreras looks "youthful" compared to Johnson. He hasn't been as bad as you might suggest. He's had a few poor outings this season surrounded by a bunch of quality starts. There is little doubt in my mind that he can be a solid pitcher in this league for another few years. And that, currently, is worth $10 million annually. Especially given he only has two years remaining on his contract after this season. I don't know if it is a good idea. Jose, may turn out like the rest of our relievers trying to be too careful throwing way too many balls then when behind in the count throwing a cookie. When Jose has confidence and that may come from coming into a game for a shorter time and allowed to dominate..Which I still believe he can and yes I think Massett and or FLoyd are not that far away from being starters.. As far as ruining his value being put into a reliever role; others have done it for periods of time and returned to their starting assignments with few problems. For whatever reasons Ozzie has in handling our relief corps any change should be examined. Besides we give valuable experience to a 2008 hurler. This season is about out of our hands.
  21. Laying down ??? Good question but is that how you have to state it.. I guarantee Larry Rothchild wouldn't get a question directed in such a manner. I grew up listening to whitesox announcer Elston promote our sox and the station that brodcast them. North isn't the only one that degrades the sox and their players to get what, a reaction, is that important.. The sox are played on 670 what can the management at the Score possibly gain by degrading our team.. A little false bravado.. I'm sure there is a thousand questions that North could ask that could be informative like delving into mechanic issues with the staff.. But because he's not a very good interviewer he agitates them. Listen the cubs play on 720 when I listen to the score where my team is heard I expect that the players, coaches and players are at least treated with some type of respect. I don't know how he remains employed at whitesox flagship station 670 the score. Bring on people at the score that have opinions but still promote our Whitesox. We all know the sox are playing badly but there is no need for inflammatory accusations.....
  22. I"m not sure about all the contracts . I do however; agree that we should trade for some younger players allow some seasoning on our callups. We have nothing left to lose as JR said we won't catch Cleveland and I personally doubt the way we are playing we'll get a wildcard either. So let our prospects play see if fields can hold down 3rd Owens can lead off Terero keep hitting.. See if Sweeney and Anderson can come around.. Even bring Floyd up to see if he has what it takes. Trade our veterans that we probably won't be able to sign and get a few good prospects like HU or a good catcher to replace AJ maybe even trying Lucy he can at least throw some runners out if he could only hit... So many of our veterans could return some fine younger fielders and pitchers. Oh and maybe replace Ozzie with a manager that can handle younger players.. Right now we have nothing left to lose. I can't wait for the fire sale to begin.................................
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 09:47 PM) Yep, and I was about to criticize him for letting Rowand face a lefty, but Rowand's OPS is 300 pts better against righties this year. Maybe that was the right move but what I can't understand is how our manager and his coaching staff Haven't made enough right moves to facilitate us dropping 16 of the last 18 games.. That just doesn't happen.
  24. I looked at the Charlotte site and noticed a Jason Bourgeous, batting 404 a second baseman. I further investigated that he came from Birmingham hitting 276. His last year totalls saw him hit 277 at SanAntonio. Improving at every level. Is he the real deal? He's 25. Where did he come from and does he have the tools to make it at the big level?
  25. I"d say sign him to a minor league contract. How long will it be before Pods or Erstadt go down again... On Clark's behalf he's had some good years. Also Dye may be traded probably sooner rather than later.
