  1. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 10:48 PM) 2 strikes with the twins or tigers. They shorten their swing, they put the ball in play up the middle or to the right. 2 strikes on the sox, either they pose statuesque and walk back to the dugout taking one down the cock, or they swing for the fence and look stupid on a low and away pitch. Its the same approach we have seen for years with 2 strikes. Our team is a f***ing softball team. That sums about 1/4 of it that would be under Walker.. Javy did ok he gets in trouble after the 5th Ozzie reacted to that by bringing in Cotts hoping that if he keeps doing the same thing will bring different results.... He brings in Riske in to pitch to Hunter. I'm not sure if they found that ball yet. I'm not done ranting yet Cora sends Gload bad throw off the mark doesn't get him but its right on the money. Mauer is blocking the plate Gload tries the old head first finesse slide around Mauer. Gload should have plowed into him just like AJ did with Barrett but unlike Hunter in 04 when he went out of his way to take out happy to be alive, not in a coma Jamie Burke.
  2. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 09:22 AM) Ross Gload is undoubtedly the most overrated Sox player by people on this board. I think that is because he had one good short stretch in the majors a few years ago. Since then, he hasn't played enough to show how much of a AAA player he really is. IF Thome goes on the DL, I think the Gload lovefest is going to take a major hit. Somehow people will be shocked that he hits .280/.320/.400. How is that a spark? We need another lefty in the line up... Gload is not the same as Thome. We don't ask THome to lay down a bunt or sacrifice himself. Gload will get the job done.. He's more of a small ball player which might be the best direction for us for a while we can't live by the home run or can we?
  3. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 08:58 PM) Will our starting pitching atleast be decent? tell me if the statistics to prove this but why when any decent outing against the sox they are hitting the ball early in the count. Hell I don't know why they took Verlander out and put in Zumaya. Why do the sox hitters prefer to hit the first few pitches . What is wrong with running up the pitch count against a good pitcher. We didn't even put a sweat on Verlander. Why didn't Jose go for the kill and skirt the plate. He wasn't however afraid to let the ball get away from him and hit a couple batters. This is the first time I ever shut the tv off and I've been following them since 1955.
  4. What is the matter with Cotts? His era in August is 9.53. In August only one home run while striking out about 1 an inning but allowing about 2 hits and a walk an inning. Is he going Marte on us?
  5. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 10:02 PM) In 04 we were fighting with the twinks for the division, and we had a hard time beating the worst team in baseball the Tigers. Now Ozzie is giving excuses. Jose looked good. And our defense was just inbetween. There is no valid excuses but did not the bosox just get swept by the royals..
  6. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 02:34 PM) Anderson because he doesnt let his poor offense messup with his great defense. With Anderson in, as opposed to Mackowiak ,I've seen some games where he may make a two run difference in his fielding. Mackowiak is ok on the corner but Anderson maybe as good or better than any centerfielder defensively in the majors. When the ball is hit in Dye or Anderson's direction base runners are afraid to advance.. I'd like to see one more strong arm in left.......................
  7. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 12:51 PM) The Yankee fans in our section weren't too bad...if anything I was the obnoxious one. Jeter was warming up right in front of us and I asked 'Who you banging now?'...I didn't think that was real bad though. My friend had gotten us seats behing the visitors dugout, ( Yankee). I believe the year was 2000 previously, Jeter had dated Mariah Carey and they had broken up. I started heckling Jeter about Mariah.. The heckling turned into a chant with other fans .. Mariah..... Mariah ... Mariah. By Jeter's second at bat our section had been joined by about 10 sections on either side of us all chanting Mariah Maria. Well Jeter tagged one that looked like it was going to leave the yard but it didn't in his last at bat. Jeter didn't get a hit. As far as fans then and today... There were more empty seats and less individuals wearing or rooting for the Yankees. I would say there were a few diehard Yankee fans but for the most part what I seen today were Cub fans costuming as Yankee fans.
  8. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 10:17 PM) So which side of your family is Tim Redding on? Tim is no longer a member of my family. He was removed because he brought dishonor to our family and refused to commit Harry Carry. I just can't figure out why the sox are keeping him. Is there an upside or is the minor league a good place to be when you're 28 after failing at the major league level?
  9. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 09:13 PM) Real bad. Quite the weak attempt at sarcasm. Ok, I know he hasn't had a good season since the Bartmon ball but why do the sox have in on the Charlotte roster. Will he have a second coming or something? QUOTE(forrestg @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 10:13 PM) Ok, I know he hasn't had a good season since the Bartmon ball but why do the sox have in on the Charlotte roster. Will he have a second coming or something?
  10. Can Tim Redding help us in long relief? On 8/2 he pitched 6 innnings of shut out baseball for Charlotte against the Durham bulls. He did have some good major league years. His last good year was 03.He had record of 10/14 with a 3.64 era. Is there anything left in the tank for the 06 sox?
  11. QUOTE(Dan Pasqua @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:30 PM) Im putting this game solely on ozzie and neal cotts. We know javy will implode every 6th inning and knowing this, ozzie still does not take him out after he gives up a lead off homer. Then he finally brings in neal with trouble and ofcourse cotts blows the lead. Cotts has been terrible lately and anyone can hit that 93 mph fast ball straight over the top right down the middle. I thought with MacD our bullpen was in good shape but we need another arm because cotts is batting practice right now. You can blame javy all u want, we know what hes gonna give us. It is ozzies responsibility to to manage to his players abilities, and neal's job as a stopper to hold the lead in pressure situations.Agreed Cotts too is not the same pitcher as 05. When he was brought up I thought he would eventually become a starter. Ozzie delegate him to the pen. One or so batters and that is it. He needs to mature, get a few more pitches . 94 isn't all that bad if you can locate better scouting report says he has a changup, his best pitch. Hitters don't have chance to see his changeup because they are already rounding the bases. It is either Cooper or Aj's fault for either not being taught other pitches or for Aj for not calling for them. We could send him down to develop a few new pitches. It is not like we're vying for a wild card spot.
  12. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 12:32 PM) I will be surprised if the Tigers and Twins keep up this pace. The Tigers have a tough stretch in August/ early September and I think the Sox will rebound to make this a tight Division race in September. Also, there is still a lot of head to head play left. Sox games left vs Det 10, vs Min 9 (19) Twins games left vs Sox 9, vs Det 10 (19) Tigers games left vs Sox 10, vs Min 10 (20) there is 60 game left to play including games with the yankee and BoSox. The key words are "left to play" The sox are notoriously bad facing Santana and new pitchers, they don't have to be phenoms as in Liriano. this is the worst part of the season for teams they usually play a lot of games in a row I believe the sox will play 20, 16 and 13 game stretches without a day off. We're bulilt for th elong haul, deeper than any other team at each position. And if the sox starters and bullpen play to what they're capable, hitters stop going for the bonb and we do the tighten up on defense. I do think with the way the sox played early on this season we can go 35 and 25 the rest of the season. That's 96 victories that would be ta good number to win the wild card . I believe the statistic when Cleveland was coming too close that no team that has one 95 or more victories has not made the playoffs.
  13. QUOTE(spiderman @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 01:23 PM) I respectfully disagree - Washington and Milwaukee are looking for two totally different returns....Milwaukee wanted major league ready contributors, and Washington seems willing to take on high level prospects. Milwaukee is trying to stay competitive, and add some pieces...Mench is not a bad player, and if they can get Cordero on track, this will be a very good trade, considering that Lee would have left the Brewers after the season. Obviously, for this trade to worth it for Milwaukee, Cordero has to come through, but the Nationals want young players so there's no real comparison. If this is true, I'm not sure what Washington is waiting for. Milwaukee will get the better end of this deal. Big headed Mench will feast on NL pitching and Cordero will return to form. Rangers will find out how lazy C lee is.
  14. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 12:42 AM) Blame it on one person? Not even close. This has been a team collapse. I've never seen a defending champion embarrased and outclassed like they have for these last 5 series. It makes me sick to my stomach right now thinking about it. Then again, I just ate 3 chili dogs with heavy, heavy onions.when they were winning nothing bothered us.
  15. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 12:14 AM) Dude, have you seen Mark Buehrle lately? He makes me want to cry. It tears me up to see one of my all-time favorite players struggling like he is. Freddy is not the same pitcher he was a year ago. We know the deal with Javy. I guess what I'm saying is that our pitching is nowhere near as good as it was last year -- even when we were sliding. Oh, yeah, what happened in the ALCS last year was EXTREMELY rare. For us to have a chance we have to win 37 while losing just 25. 96 victories might see us to a wild card. You can't blame it on one person. Dye, Thome, and Crede are having career highs. Our bullpen, starting pitching and game plans aren't working. How many times last year did a ball take a funny hop and we capitalized on it. This year our opponents our taking advantage of our weaknesses and everybody is trying to gun down the champs. Welcome to the real world like it is in the East where Boston and the Yankees find ways of winning despite the fact that the lead changes so many times because of the intense competition.
  16. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 10:29 PM) Before the 1st pitch, I had chalked up tonight as a loss and when the Twins went up 4-1, I changed the station. It was actually a positive to see this team try to fight back into it in the 9th. I was depressed last year when we couldn't win a game in September but we came back to win in fine fashion. 2005 it was 9 games 2006 we have to play great baseball for 2 months with no cushion.
  17. QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 10:21 PM) Buehrle is just not that good.this is getting painfull to watch
  18. QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 05:37 PM) Give me Olivo!!! They have Willingham and Treanor that can catch. (I'm not really serious about this, but it would be nice to have his arm back) Olivo is hitting 288, he's got a better arm than AJ but as expalined before he has trouble calling a game. The angels manager called all the pitches for the catcher. Perhaps with a little instruction from AJ and Cooper he can learn to call a game.
  19. QUOTE(JoeBatterz @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 08:08 PM) Not suprised that they threw trash on the field.I remember Randy Meyer who was the closer for the CUbs who had pitched well enough the prior season to rate a poster day at Wrigley field. On his poster day Meyer not only pitched but pitched lousy enough to anger the Cub's faithful to throw their Meyer posters on to the field. That was funny! I'm not sure but I don't believe the Cubs ever reinstituted the poster giveaway.........
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 09:58 AM) The difference being he had a staff full of guys he had worked with an a couple of new guys, versus having a whole staff of guys he had never worked with at all. It might even be next year before you really see some of these guys emerge.there's nothing in Ortiz's 06 stats that would substantiate a 22 million investment. Coop can do wonders but it looks by Russ's games that he's terribly inconsistent. Hmm sounds like another sox pitcher before coop turned him around.........................Maybe Contreras can teach him how to pitch like a Cuban..................
  21. I live downstate and don't get WCIU on cable so I hooked up my antennae and watch the sox on my 13" instead of my HD tv. It is all about seeing the sox.

  23. I was at that game. they are under the Kirkland records label. I have no idea if the pregame is recorded
  24. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 11:17 PM) Haha it was such common sense with how the Cubs and karma works. Their fans should have rooted for a loss last night, it would have been a good sign for Lee. As for a Cubs fan coming over here to make snide remarks.....shove it up your ass. All Cubs fans do is b**** about how healthy we are and ask and wish somebody from our team would get hurt. Clean our own damn closet and stop hating before you tell us to. What's not to like about D lee, my favorite story about him is when Uribe stopped him at second. Uribe by bluffing Lee kept us in the ball game. He was good natured after the incident. He had a good season with the Marlins and then went on to prove the Cubs confidence in him. I do however: like the idea of trading Gload to the Cubs. Ross deserves a chance somewhere everyone has been mentioning Pie but is there anyone else that the cubs realistically would trade that would help us like a catcher a year away from the bigs..................If they do trade Gload I hope it won't bite us in the ........ when we play the Cubs
  25. QUOTE(beck72 @ Mar 17, 2006 -> 07:25 PM) Right now Jenks, like most bullpen guys, is just throwing to get loose, to shake off the offseason rust. No worry here. who knows why perhaps it is gaining momentum and he'll come into his own after spring training or just maybe they want Bobby to work on location "do more with less" some time in a pitcher's career they have to become pitchers and not just throwers.............
