  1. QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Sep 11, 2005 -> 06:28 PM) ^^^ Need the big bat. Helton would be ideal. why is it with these big bats like KOnerko and Everett it's all or nothing. If we would get rid of Konerko I would prefer someone that besides power could have a little more range and more speed And when slumping avoids the GIDP .
  2. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 09:45 PM) The Hawk/DJ shoutout was in response to one of our admins..... I've sent in several not to have any answered. I was watching tv one day and my son asked Who was the better clutch hitter my dad says it was dick Allen and he,I, said it was Harold Baines. Hawk went on about how Harold was the best and no one was a better clutch hitter. I called my son to tell him that his question was answered by Hawk. Of course you can't watch tv every second so he was glad i told him. I personally don't give a s*** what hawk's opinion on that question was but when Harold Baines was on put on waivers and hawk didn't pick him up hawk was fired. O f course hawk was horribly inept at that position but he was the wrong person to ask about Harold Baines.. If you notice Hawk talks all the time but can you remember him ever mentioning Richie Allen there's other players also will never get air time or their Kudos
  3. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 09:15 PM) This I do agree with. I can definitely understand giving Scotty a day off today but Gooch got a game off yesterday, Carl is a dh and he rarely needs a day off. There wasn't really a reason to give those two the day off. Manual never changed the line up and early in the season Ozzie looked brilliant with his subtle changes in the lineup. We have to start winning so it would be wise to be put the best he's got in for a while instead of the OPTIMAlly Inept. Odds are Cleveland can't play well enough to catch us but how are we going to feel if we just hold on to win and then lose our first playoff series . We've got to start playing.
  4. QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 09:45 AM) With a twinight doubleheader in Texas (Tuesday, I believe), we need another starter. And it seems to me that with August 31 coming up fast, wouldn't having BMac on the roster be more potentially important for the playoffs than Jon Adkins? Injury insurance for one of our starters. Now, I realize Texas pounded lumps on BMac last time, but he's gotta get over that hump some time. Any thoughts? I am not sure what thought I like better Adkins going down or Bmac coming up.
  5. QUOTE(BamaDoc @ Aug 21, 2005 -> 04:51 PM) Thanks Gene, I didn't take that into account, although there are a few I could think of doing without. when he just reaches out and hits the ball instead of clobbering it he does fine.. Hard to take a full swing on some of the hurlers he's face in the last week. Got to make that contact or it doesn't count
  6. QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 08:48 PM) and Carl save the no-hitter 1-hitter is just as pathetic yes, but espn and the cubune won't hammer it for a week like they would a no hitter
  7. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 11:51 AM) I had to chuckle when I read that. Two words: Do. It. I've been agreeing with him the past few articles. I don't know what's wrong with him. I'd love to have griffey. He would put us over the top. I don't understand this money thing with Reinsdorf because did or did not Kenny William say when asked if getting a player for the stretch, " Money is no problem".
  8. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 12:53 AM) Not many guys in Charlotte are worth a roster spot. Charlotte is a futile place to be this year and I hope that next year they can get things to work out. Its funny too, because Bham has been making the playoffs year in year out. It sucks too cause Charlotte has some great people in the front office. I after reading many of the sox threads believe this about Charlotte any ideas on why the better team spirit and players are better at double AA Bham?
  9. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 12:30 AM) Quite frankly I can't really complain....the Sox went pretty deep into the game before they had to use Adkins. Hate to say it our hitting sucked too Hermanson blew the save. Jenks and Viscaino actually didn't pitch badly Adkins, suppose to be a mop up pitcher. an inning eater.. The reason I understand that Adkins was brought up and not Bajeneru who has a era of 1.17 was that Baj might not be able to go 3 or 4 innings if they need him to. Well we found out today that Adkins is not capable of getting anyone out let go an inning or longer. amazingly I only saw one swing and miss. I don't think he's even worth a spot on Charlotte's roster. :headshake
  10. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 02:03 AM) Maybe it tells us the Reds ceo is lying. I I was the ceo of the reds or if i was kw I wouldn't say anything more than I had to. . We as sox fans. We feed on these rumors sports journalist feed on our frenzy.
  11. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 11:46 PM) FWIW... If this a rumor " A trade can be made for a player if he's on the major league 25 or 40 man roster only if both players have made cleared waivers. ROgowski is still on our 40 man roster that means he will have to go through waivers to be traded which i don't thnk will happen because he will be claimed by some other team with a worse record than Cinci. Young is not on the 40 man roster so if there will be a trade it will not be ROGO going there needs to be another minor leaguer to be sent to the reds. Possible, I don't know anymore. I think the cell would become more exciting than wrigley, Yankee stadium and Fenway park combined if Griffey comes and is effective for the stretch and the playoffs.
  12. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 02:46 PM) That's very good news. That means no team was willing to risk picking up the remaining value of the contract. The rumor had the White Sox picking up all but $15M. That was the best offer prior to the deadline. It's doubtful that another team will best it now. Which means the White Sox are essentially bidding against themselves to entice the Reds owner to trade him. This is the most exciting thing. I think KW should pull out all the stops. Throw in Willie Harris and Borchard.
  13. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 10:24 AM) Yeah, but the point is that the perception is gonna be that the Sox are giving the games to the Tribe because they don't want to face Oakland...who knows, the A's could take over the division lead for good and this could be moot. I guess my point is that the Sox might have an effect on who they face in the playoffs because they are facing a WC contender when they will likely be resting starters for the playoffs. Oakland may not be the wild card they may be AL west champions. If they would be AL west champions they would probably play Boston AL east champions. We would play the wildcard and that may be the angels or Cleveland or whoever.
  14. QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 01:30 PM) 97ish, I say. In 03 I predicted 87-75, I thought that would be good enough to win th central or wild card. This year I predicted 98-64 this would be good enough for the best record in mlb. I am in hopes that in September we can evaluate a few of our minor leaguers which will keep our playoff roster healthy come playoff time. winning more and upsetting my prediction wouldn't upset me.
  15. QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 10:07 AM) You're talking about Triskillion's, it's closed now. It was on Wells St. I am pretty sure, about 28th St. Definitely west of the Dan Ryan. that's it thankyou!
  16. QUOTE(forrestg @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 11:45 PM) There's a bar I can think of the name of it help me anybody it east of the park you go under the bridge and then go about 3 or four blocks east again it starts with tri_ _ _ _ _ _. That's was a nice neighborhood sox bar. I don't think that food was served except for hot dogs and snacks. Can anyone think of the name of that bar. When the crowds were smaller we'd park there and walk to the cell. I live an hour and a half away form chicago I made a mistake about the directions it is just after the chisox north lot to the street where Jimbos is east under the railroad then 3 blocks north.
  17. [ correct me if I am wrong I can't seem to source it but did this test take place on July 7th this would be before his 3000 hit. If that would've been true would the orioles have that big 3000 hit sign on the camden yards building.
  18. QUOTE(Balance @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 11:20 PM) I remember back in 2000, that guy from WMVP (Bill something-or-other) got beaten up by a bunch of people after a night at Jimbo's. Even though I'm sure that's rare, there are a lot of people who probably have that image of the neighborhood around USCF. There's a bar I can think of the name of it help me anybody it east of the park you go under the bridge and then go about 3 or four blocks east again it starts with tri_ _ _ _ _ _. That's was a nice neighborhood sox bar. I don't think that food was served except for hot dogs and snacks. Can anyone think of the name of that bar. When the crowds were smaller we'd park there and walk to the cell.
  19. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 01:38 PM) Well, you definitely want to have some DL players on the list - so you can add a rookie or two if they're having a hot Sept. The Angels did this in 2002 - I forgot who was on the DL at the time, but it allowed them to bring K-Rod into the playoffs with them, even though he only came up two weeks earlier. I love the idea of Frank pulling a Kirk Gibson. Im glad you brought up that at bat in the world series. I think that was the most exciting moment in mlb I've ever witnessed . I watched him limp to the plate hit a homer and then limp around the bases touch home I was at a party and no one was not touched for that immediate second even those in attendance who had money on the other team.
  20. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 01:23 PM) No more than your post was. I think some things are better explained in sarcastic tone. Makes people think more.
  21. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 01:14 PM) Just like your posts are a plus. Is that sarcasm?
  22. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 04:49 AM) I believe you can add Borchard to the list, as well. I like the idea of adding Borchard he can't field and can't hit for average but if he gets the right pitch he can set the record for longest home run is that a plus or what.
  23. Does anyone think that neither Manny nor Boston had any intentions of trading manny. This was just some concocted hype by the Bosox. :puke
