  1. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 05:02 PM) I love Ross as much as anyone but unfortunately Ozzie wasn't going to use him much anyways. Viz can pitch an inning or two while Adkins can pitch 3-4 if need be, that's why he was called up. I do agree with you though, Diaz seems like the perfect fit for this long reliever role, I'm not a fan of Adkins. Who knows, hopefully we'll both be wrong. Notice how Ozzie leaves the starter in even though the starter has shown he doesn't have it. Other teams may take their starter out in the 3rd but Ozzie waits till they get shelled and sometimes to the point we are out of the game. An effective long reliever would be nice is Adkins the right answer?
  2. QUOTE(That funky motion @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 04:20 PM) Or makes an error! Is Kenny and Ozzie seeing things we're not comprehending . We see Gload as a future star and Ozzzie and KW refuse to keep him up long enough to prove himself. Adkins will come up and probably not start but be used in long relief era 5.58 would this be better than Bajenaru's 1.15. Burke when he was up last year he consistently hit around .300 when there was a choice of keeping him up or Davis. playboy D won they gave Davis a million like timo. I don't frankly understand. :headshake
  3. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 03:00 PM) The Astros were a healthy Pettite away from beating the Cards last year. The Cards should be favored, but nobody can tell me a team with Clemens, Oswalt, and Pettite couldn't beat anybody. I am not worried about the national league's champion whoever it may be. I believe we can handle any american league team but we have to start playing for every out in every game.
  4. QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 01:30 PM) Blum has 118 games at short in his career according to yahoo. He has over 400 at 3rd. Between him and Ozuna, they have it covered. That's more stable than Willie being the 3rd option at short. 26 times in the last 3 years
  5. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 01:05 PM) FWIW, with the addition of Blum, the sox could part with Uribe. I'd be all for keeping Juan as a UTL guy. Yet if it took trading Juan to get Omar, so be it. Juan's recent hot streak could make him more valuable blum doesn't have a lot of ss experience from what I read
  6. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:45 PM) WHAAAAAAA?!????!!!!?! Sorry, I actually did have a heart attack. ______________________________________________________________
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 11:26 AM) I'm just saying that I think our farm system could afford to give these guys up, and not lose a step. As much as I'd be willing to trade him, losing McCarthy would be a much bigger blow to the farm system. Also, our 3 young stud outfielders give us a huge trade chip this offseason. It's not like we don't have outfielders at the MLB level we're looking to replace. Hey what about TImo he needs to be replaced
  8. QUOTE(fattyguy78 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 08:20 AM) Hey sorry if this was mentioned already but I didnt see it anywhere...saw this on rotoworld: Padres acquired catcher Miguel Olivo from the Mariners for catcher Miguel Ojeda and RHP Nate Mateo. It's worth a try. The Mariners thought they had a long-term starter in Olivo when they got him in the Freddy Garcia trade, but he disappointed both offensively and defensively. The Padres will keep him in the majors and let him split time with David Ross, apparently taking Robert Fick out of the mix for starts at catcher. If they don't re-sign Ramon Hernandez in the offseason, Olivo would become a candidate to start in 2006. He shouldn't have much in the way of short-term fantasy value. Jul. 31 - 2:20 am et I loved Olivo he is a great defensive catcher. His pickoff throws the way he threw out base stealers. He did manage the bat at times and could really run the bases. One of his major flaws was he wasn't able to call games. Hey, if we get blum from San Diego get Miguel back at the same time he can learn how to call games from AJ. I know he can get his stroke back. Miguel Ojeda - C - Mariners Mariners acquired catcher Miguel Ojeda and RHP Nate Mateo from the Padres for catcher Miguel Olivo. Because the Yorvit Torrealba pickup didn't make it obvious enough that they were giving up on Miguel Olivo, the Mariners made it offical. Ojeda might be assigned to Triple-A Tacoma for now, but the plan is probably for him to be Torrealba's backup through at least 2006. The 30-year-old was a disappointment for the Padres this season after decent showings as a reserve in 2003 and '04. As someone who will start 40 games or so, he should be OK. Mateo, 24, had a 3.08 ERA in 48 relief appearances for Double-A Mobile. He has the fastball to be sort of useful as a 12th pitcher. Jul. 31 - 2:17 am et I always liked Olivo and he has good potential, I wish him all the luck!
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 02:20 AM) An official statement from both teams. Considering what time it is right now, it would likely be done in the morning. How often do you see trades completed at 3:20AM EST? Maybe shingo
  10. QUOTE(shoelessinva @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 07:00 AM) I'd love his bat without his D or attitude. He's a punk and we better not mess with what appears to be a great clubhouse atmosphere. One bad apple (or a**hole) could spoil the bunch! How would anyone know which manny would show up and would Manny want to be traded from any team he was traded to. Best place for Manny is the cubs. they have the money, remember they are sold out every year now the figure they spend on players salaries is nothing compared to what they make . He can't field he'd make things miserable around their small clubhouse. Yes, I would love the cubs to have Manny
  11. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 04:32 PM) If the Sox could get him, he would most likely not come back unless we exercised the $6 million option. He would see our closer situation in that we have many options. but, then again, with his arm troubles, he could stay for his player option. if guardado can be had cheap enough in spite of his rotator cuff problems if he could finish out the year. How long would he be out with rotator cuff surgery ? could he comeback as good as he was? that's still a gamble
  12. QUOTE(spiderman @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 04:13 PM) Which is exactly why this would be a good trade. He could play multiple positions, and send Willie Harris back to the minors where he belongs. He doesn't have to be a great player - remember his value would be providing a bat off the bench, and to be insurance for Crede. Only concern here is that Guillen would overuse him....Hopefully, down the strech Guillen will stick with what's gotten us here. thid would be a great move, lEFT handed UTITLITY INFIELDER, LITTLE COST ..... BRILLIANT! BEST RUMOR SO FAR AS FAR AS BEING REALISTIC
  13. QUOTE(HSC's Biggest Fan @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 10:43 AM) Because you can't control attendance, see White Sox and Miami. The state of Florida is the state of Florida. Miami tried winning and it didn't work. You can watch about 15 spring training teams when the weather is nice. Now when it is 100 where do you want to go, the ocean or to see the D-Rays?? Sports in Florida are different than Chicago. 75 and sunny and the ballpark. -10 and snowing indoor hockey. 75 and sunny (hockey???) 110 baseball The risk of building a new stadium and spending money (to compete agaisnt NY and Boston) is not worth it. I really think they are in a no win situation and will be dicks about it, I thought that was the point of not trading for spite. Maybe you don't know but the sox almost moved there because money for US Cellular wasn't being appropriated. I was 60% sure they were going. As far as trades we need a couple of good left-handed bats and in the lineup Huff would be great. As far as pitching I would really think twice about giving up McCarthy if he's pitching well. In the playoffs we can get by with 4sp 3 are superb and the other 2 can be brilliant. Marte, go ahead and trade him but leave Jenks,Cotts,Hermanson, and Politte alone.
  14. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 03:02 AM) Not bad. Welcome back to Soxtalk! I'm impressed, great job
  15. QUOTE(OldRetiredGuy @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 09:29 AM) Ahh, the follies of youth. Enjoy this season until the team plays it's last game. I usually would say until they are mathamatically eliminated. My kids use to play a song We'll take the most from living, have pleasure while we can live for today And don't worry 'bout tomorrow, just live for today or something like that. Politte at 1.5 mil I believe the sox will keep him as long as he continues to perform then if we keep him then the following year he'd be arbitration eliglible. How is a player arbitration eligible and when can a player declare free agency? Is there someplace, book or site that I can find these definitions?
  16. QUOTE(whitesoxfan13 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 07:59 PM) Crap, I wonder if this means the deal with us fell through. this is funny when we got Alomar and Everett I was shocked and surprized and I knew Alamar better than Everett but I was happy that a trade might benefit the team. Now that I started following every trade I am really getting frustrated just with the suspense.. Yea ----Nea do we give up the farm or don't trade? We got to trust KW on this one. After all nearly every trade I see presented has poor McCarthy being included I think he can only be trade to one team at a time.
  17. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 08:59 PM) Yep, I'm becoming indifferent to it. I don't blame KW if he doesn't pull the trigger at this point. I mean you take on Lowell, who sux and his fat contract and then what if AJ joins us and sux too, then AJ doesn't even sign an extension??? Too much risk, not enough probable reward. I'll back KW if it happens, but I won't cry if it doesn't at this point. just in: the sox have talked to Babe Ruth'S agent and he's willing to play for the sox for the rest of the season pro gratis. This makes as much sense as anything else. :puke
  18. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 08:40 PM) SI.com had an article on who should be buyers and sellers; this is what they wrote about the Sox: They suggested we just stand pat. Right now, it's going to be tough to make a deal with so many teams so close to a playoff spot, but you don't just make a move to make a move. I trust KW. I get worked up if I hear of a trade possiblilty and I'll get worked up if they make a trade. I feel better when the trade deadline is over then the anticipation is over .
  19. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 01:10 PM) That makes Carlos Lee the greatest defensive LF of last year. Oakland knew with all those lefties in the lineup where are the weak part of the infield is Iguchi can't cover the whole right side.
  20. QUOTE(soxhawks @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 12:18 PM) i think gload is similar to liefer, they both showed glimpses as backups, but we will have to see if gload burns like liefer did Gload proved last year he could hit mlb pitching look at the balls he hit they wer line drives it's only a matter of time before they start falling for hits. It may take a few at bats for him to hit his stride... be patient .. I believe in Gload. Save our money for a utility infielder to replace Willie and to sub for Crede.
  21. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 11:23 PM) The guy puts on so many runners. He's not very good at all, and putting so many runners on will eventually catch up with him again. Well then, there must have been trade talks about Marte for a long time. He's looked nervous for as long as I can remember about him. He's the guy that'll be gone before the deadline, it seems. Hawk and DJ seem to hate the guy. Ozzie is cursing whenever he's in the game. Nobody likes him. In the last 2 games the whole team is acting like they lost their best friend. lol
  22. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 11:44 AM) when the baseball hof had that traveling exhibit at the Field Museum I saw one of the Babe's bats. They were like giant logs. I saw that exhibition too. Comparing them to modern day sluggers bat there's quite a difference. Perhaps when we go back and worship those old sluggers that maybe they didn't have the same pitching to bat against. Bonds bat is relatively light could he get around with a 40 oz bat against a 95 to 98 mile an hour fastball could Ruth hit that same pitching we'll never know.
  23. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 08:35 PM) Yeah i thought the offense changed to however according to Stats INC, the White Sox have score 40.3% of their runs off the Home Run. Is the something we should be concerned about Opposing pitchers are trying hard to keep pods off base.. We are so much more effective when he has a good day. However: the rest of the line up is not a small ball team. When Frank batted 3rd he can't run Konerko can be put in that category. The third hitter should be someone who can hit it to the right sidel like Iguchi has been so effective if Arow could hit that way great but he's usually a dead pull hitter. Man on third arow. konerko, frank hit the ball to third man on third doesn't advance and is confined to third.. How many times last year and this year has it happened? If that same ball is hit to the right side we stand so much better of a chance in that scenario.
  24. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 10:52 AM) martinez = old giambi = WAYYYYYYYyy overpriced. worse than konerko with twice the contract for way longer :puke your idea how about steinbrenner wanting to unload Giambi trading Giambi to us and the sox us trading Giambi to a team that could afford him and who are desperate for some power to the LA dodgers for Odalis Perez and Choi
  25. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 10:52 AM) martinez = old giambi = WAYYYYYYYyy overpriced. worse than konerko with twice the contract for way longer :puke your idea yep, no just a thought.. I liked the way Martinez hit at the beginning of the season. He's slumping now.
