  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 23, 2012 -> 05:48 PM) Have you seen Colon pitch recently? He controls both the 4-seamer and the 2-seamer about as well as is humanly possible. Viciedo would have looked like a fool had he faced Colon last week with the stuff he had against the Angels... Battle of the resurging Colon vs the resurging Peavy. Or how many fans will see this epic battle of 2 former Cy young winners do battle in the colliseum.
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 10:37 AM) Ooh, I like that one... "Gumby"
  3. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 16, 2012 -> 11:38 PM) Beckham still has options. I mean, why not... dude is completely broken right now. Let's just get it overwith. When I first saw Beckham I thought he should make the team out of spring training. Once he was up I thought his short quick swing would guarantee him a long career instead of a long career I've seen his swing get too long.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 16, 2012 -> 09:16 AM) Yep, Lyndon Johnson and the Kennedy family absolutely hated each other with a passion, but also desperately needed each other simultaneously (the presence of a Southerner on the ticket). Or you can look at Abraham Lincoln's cabinet for the best example, a "Team of Rivals" as the famous book goes (or infamous, depending upon your opinion of the writer after the plagiarism charges). Of course, Joe Biden also faced the same problem when he ran for President, it's one of the strongest reasons against a possible candidacy of his in the future. Hillary might very well have one last grand fight left in her. Herman cain
  5. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 16, 2012 -> 07:10 PM) Any idea why 5 (2, then 3 more 10 mins later) huge black military choppers flew over Chicago heading west? It was pretty damn loud, not normally something you'd see. Edit: 2 more just flew by. Wasting gas?
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 12, 2012 -> 08:18 AM) There is no way Kenny did it on purpose, but at the same time, I would bet the Stanford boy got a smirk out of the deal. Maybe he'd be good enough to take Beckham's place when he is sent down to shorten his swing.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 30, 2012 -> 08:50 AM) Deunte Heath seems a good prospect then. I adopted Nate jones last year or the year before. He's made the show this year.
  8. Beckham looks lost at the plate. Maybe he needs to play 3rd again. Hasn't hit since he started playing second. I'm sure there is no connection but wtf.
  9. QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ Apr 6, 2012 -> 03:46 PM) The Sox didn't play too bad today. The Good: Pitching...everybody. Danks-Reed-Thornton. Adam Dunn...Welcome back? The Bad: 13 strikeouts The Ugly: Brent Morel The Sox are gonna beat some teams if they play the way they did today. Obviously need to work on the strikeouts, but we scored 15 and looked invincible opening day last year...and look what happened. I like the way they battled back to get it tied...on a HUSTLE play...by RIOS no less. I'm encouraged moreso than completely put off.
  10. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Mar 31, 2012 -> 06:54 PM) Yeah, whoever let Sweet Caroline play must have thought the Dodgers were playing. The inning when the Sox wasted Konerko's triple really pi$$ed me off. I left my seat in the shade and just walked around for the rest of the game. Oh, and I have come to really hate Alex Rios. my quote from this morning Better clutch hitting. Instead of getting the runner to third and getting stranded he can be driven in..Wouldn't that be a switch 11:22am Rios didn't read it.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 31, 2012 -> 10:43 AM) Morel replaced by the elf with back stiffness...Danks's last start before the season. Holy shades of Joe Crede with (bad back)
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 01:06 PM) It was in a crosstown game IIRC. thanks.
  13. QUOTE (balfanman @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 11:34 AM) I would of loved to have seen Dye at ss and Widger at 3rd for a whole game. Didn't Steve lyons play every position in one game? Sox were out of contention before the game.
  14. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 03:22 PM) Dan Johnson still sticking around? Going to accept minor league contract and not ask to be released? I thought that he would bolt to another team if he didn't make our team. Well, I take that as good news. Not a bad player to have at AAA as an insurance player. I like this. Couldn't think of a better way of keeping him.
  15. QUOTE (balfanman @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 04:23 PM) Don't they only have like 1 off day in all of April? you're right, i didn't look at the schedule first.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 05:02 PM) Alejandro DeAza with a tape measure HR, his first. Nice to see him demonstrating the pop he had last season. Indians' announcers saying Adam Dunn looks the same as a hitter as 2011, lol. Nice premature evaluation based on one game. Aaron Morrison (???) playing 3B for the Sox. Christian Marrero token appearance. Seth Logan pinch runs after a Dunn blooper falls in for a single and gets him back in the .230's. Former Sox reliever Scott Radinsky now the pitching coach for the Indians. http://www.thegreatrabbino.com/2009/11/scott-radinsky.html Glad to see that he is still in the game and doing ok.
  17. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 11:09 AM) I was hoping for one less pitcher and Johnson and Escobar both making it though I knew that was unlikely. Escobar has sure earned a spot. As for Johnson, I wish him the best. He's a really nice guy. My second guessing would have kept johnson for at least the first couple of weeks going with a spot 5th starter. a little more time to decide because i think johnson could help with his lh bat in the right situation. The best pitching comes later in the season. Hitting will be our #1 problem and I'm guessing it will not be our 5th starter wh in his 2 or 3 starts will not be as much of a factor as having the right person off the bench.
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 25, 2012 -> 07:02 PM) 3 @ TEX 2-1 3 @ CLE 2-1 3 VS. DET 2-1 4 VS. BALT 3-1 3 @ SEA 1-2 3 @ OAK 2-1 4 VS. BOS 2-2 14-9 I like what they are doing now optimistically 13-10
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 22, 2012 -> 04:43 PM) If he wasn't a plus defender, he'd be on his way to the minors. I'm not sure can Beckham be sent down. I am assuming his quick rise to mlb left him with a few. I just don't know the rules on options
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 15, 2012 -> 04:24 PM) I wonder what the odds are that Fukudome is starting over Viciedo by May 1st? My cub friend says he always starts out hot in april prelude to whats coming
  21. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 14, 2012 -> 10:26 AM) He had an 0-41 in April/May of 1990, but not to start the season. He got a hits in September of 89 when he first got called up. I think Hawk has been saying he started his career 0-41 for years, and after a while everyone started believing it. sorry, I guess Hawk doesn't always tell the true story or doesn't let the facts interfere with a good story.
  22. QUOTE (Jake @ Mar 13, 2012 -> 10:48 PM) Ventura knows what its like to have a slow start. Dayan has what is essentially a blank check on playing time unless it Dunn-esque Robin ,himself went 0 for 43 before getting his first hit. He didn't give up when his ankle got severely broken at the plate. Nothing can stop "sweet swinging " Robin. Dayan needs to see the tape of those moments of his courageous manager. Then he will be inspired and will ffinally be the cuban Babe Ruth.
  23. QUOTE (Wanne @ Mar 8, 2012 -> 06:21 PM) It did. I remember seeing Cole Armstrong hit one like that in almost the exact same place in the AFL a few years back. I was That game . Armstrong crushed it. I thought that we'd seee more of him but I guess we saw his best.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 01:03 PM) Good way to put it. Sox pay 3 million of his salary for those two years then it might be close in return sox get in return some AA ball player with an upside kind like when we got Bobby jenks from them.
