  1. I have more trust in Pods saying this than Prior saying the same thing.
  2. The airline industry in this country is in terrible shape, save for a couple of the "mavericks."
  3. Question, Repub Brothers: why does the Dem. thread on this site have twice as many pages as ours?
  4. Bonds has had his "tough" PR moments with the press, fans...just about everyone, but with the incredibly increased scrutiny that the 'roids rage has created along with his pursuit of the HR record, I predict BB will not last the season. There will be an emotional meltdown of catastrophic proportions. Caution: anyone within a square mile of said breakdown will not survive the blast.
  5. This guys is naive...dangerously naive. What's most ironic about his anti-military statement is that it is the military which protects the unique groups that inhabit that city. BTW, this is in no way a slam of any of those groups, but a dose of reality. Could you imagine what a Taliban regime would do to the population of SF?
  6. QUOTE(CubsSuck1 @ Feb 20, 2006 -> 11:19 PM) What the die hard death penalty supporters fail to realize is that the American justice system is not intended to punish, but rather keep the threats to society away and in jail so that they cannot repeat their horrid acts. I'm not quite sure where you get this from. The penal system is meant to do both: punish and protect (In fact, "penal" a derivative of "punish"). That said, I do believe that life without parole is a worse punishment than capital punishment. To know that one will never know freedom of movement, regular interactions with relatives, friends, etc. is not a punishment to sneeze at. I do endorse capital punishment for those heinous criminals who by their actions have shown themselves to have lost their humanity, so to reserve such punishment for the Hitlers and Saddams of history to me is appropriate and necessary.
  7. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 08:27 AM) Anything can happen. I don't know if you remember 1984, but after the 1983 domination, the Sox acquired Tom Seaver, who turned out to be their best pitcher in 1984. With Hoyt, Dotson, Bannister, and Burns, it, on paper, was one of the most dominant 5 man rotations ever. For some reason or another, things didn't work out in 1984, probably they kept too much intact, and they finished below .500. All you can ask for at this time is a team with a legitimate chance to win. The Sox are clearly that. They made a lot of changes, I think for the better. I think many of the players can have better offensive years. The bullpen is my main concern. Excellent point. Baseball is the quirkiest of all sports. That said, on paper it's hard not to be optimistic about the Sox. We've talked a lot about the pitching and the pickup of Thome, but nearly all Sox hitters last year had lower-than-expected BA's. Imagine if even half of them pick up their individual pace. Wow! This year could be beyond fantastic.
  8. Certainly, the "homeless" Crede of late 2005 did a lot better than the "baby face" Crede earlier in the season. If the look gives him a psychological boost, then I say, go for it. Also, we need to keep the Rally Crede going this year.
  9. I have liked McCain on a lot of issues. He's had the guts to stand up to politics as usual, but on a couple of issues he completely baffles me. Immigration is one of those issues.
  10. The 'cover-up' is always worse than the crime. Jim Hendry and the Cubs have had a history of not acknowleding problems. Hendry is saying that Prior is just fine. Well, if in May, his arm looks like a noodle, then Cub fans will really... Ah, hell, we all know a lemming will always be a lemming.
  11. Mags was my favorite player when he was here. That said, when he left, I was in the "don't let the door hit your ass on the way out" camp. If he had stayed here, he would have had the hearts of Sox fans. That's a commodity we do not give to a lot of our players. As it is, he'll make his $$$. From the quote in this thread, it sounds like that might not be all he covets. (Can anyone say 'World Series Ring'?) I also was interested in the comment that had Mags still been on the Sox, we wouldn't have won the WS. Hard to argue with history.
  12. The only way for the Cubs to have a good team this year is IF all the ? in their starting pitching have marquee years. That same "IF" has been the story and hope for the Cubs for several years running.
  13. Given Bonds' on-again, off-again retirement "news," as well as many other "bizarre" statements from him in the past, is there any evidence that topical creams make you into a very mercurial person?

  15. Barry Bonds needs 48 HRs to break Hank Aaron's HR record. Assuming that he's serious about retiring after this year because he's "not having any fun" anymore, do you think he'll achieve this goal?
  16. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Feb 18, 2006 -> 03:17 PM) Come on. How is this not funny?? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2006/02/17/s...on_n_15887.html That was pretty funny. I'm not saying there is never anything funny on RT, but there's a bitterness, a rancor to BM's humor that I do not find entertaining.
  17. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 19, 2006 -> 02:06 AM) He's not a true african american since he won in a winter sport. He should be playing basketball or football like the other black kids. Yes, that's the way to grow opportunities for African-Americans.
  18. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 18, 2006 -> 02:47 AM) (June 18th, 2006: "White Sox 4 game losing streak product of 1st base coach switch" by Jay Marriotti) Not bad, except Moronotti will headline it: "Impulsive Guillen's 1st Base Switch Results in Sox Tailspin"
  19. Of course, with our starters going deep into games as they did much of last year, maybe none of our bullpen will be needed very often.
  20. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 08:12 PM) Good point. He gets a deal on the biggest cable network because nobody thinks he is funny whatsoever. I'm still scratching my head over that. Goes to show that there is no lack of work for resentful, bitter, iconoclasts. We are indeed a nation of unlimited opportunities.
  21. Oh, joy. Bill is sooooooo funny. :puke
  22. QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 11:46 AM) Since were on the subject of reporting early, I saw Pods at the Auto Show last night and he mentioned that he was heading to Tuscon right after he was done signing. My buddy asked him what he thinks about over 65 sb this season, Pods reply... "Bet on it." PODS is god.
  23. Don't get me wrong. I like Spring Training, but won't it detract from the Black Hawks?
  24. As long as some are going to indulge 'rumors' as to abuse, let me throw in my own. I have it on a better than decent authority that the abuse of the prisoners at AG was precipated by prisoners' gang raping a minor in captivity. This is not offered as any justification...just that the "suspicion" game can throw its net far and wide.
  25. QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 02:35 AM) I can't believe you guys still can't see why Ozzie made the in games moves he did during the season. He kept his subs sharp and his regulars rested. He also showed in the post season that he can change when circumstances do. He kept running his regulars out there with a 'win today' mentality, which so many of you think he should have game in, game out throughout the course of a 162 game season. He shouldn't, and I for one am very happy he doesn't. Of course, I preached this all throughout the season last year, but I thought a WS championship would have convinced most of you doubters. I should have known better. Personally, I've not had a problem with Ozzie's resting and rotating of players. In fact, any analysis of the post-season reveals what a genius he was. The only I have about Ozzie sometimes are his bullpen moves. I probably agree with him 80% of the time, but the other 20% are truly baffling.
