QUOTE(The Critic @ Feb 2, 2006 -> 06:09 PM) That jackass needs to go to jail and get anally raped on a daily basis. BTW, is there any other way for a guy to be raped? Very sad to hear about such a troubled young man and the hatred that exploded into indefensible violence.

We definitely have a solid bench, and while Ozzie got some criticism for resting so many players so often, it paid off in the playoffs. Where the other teams seemed tired, we were ready to play. We also have a cushion for those inevitable injuries.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Feb 2, 2006 -> 07:02 PM) I'll make a bold prediction that even Morrissey can understand. If Cubs finish with a losing record & the White Sox make the post season agin the White Sox will beat the Cubs in TV ratings. Everyone says thats' what put the Cubs on top in Chicago so if that logic holds true a changing of the guard is on the horizon. I hope...and suspect...that you're right "J." Please, please, if you are, write our dear friend Morrissey and tell him what a great baseball mind he is.

Scroll down the comments and you'll notice toward the bottom a mini-debate about how many cool things there are to do around Wrigley. Nothing new but it's nice to know some things never change.

Is the new leader considered a reformer, that is, reducing lobbyists' influence and limiting earmarks?

Here are my predictions, series by Series 3 vs CLE Sox 2-1 3 at KC Sox 2-1 3 at DET Sox 2-1 3 vs TOR Tor 2-1 3 vs KC Sox 2-1 3 vs MIN Sox 2-1 3 at SEA Sea 2-1 3 at LAA LAA 2-1 Sox 13-11. I know it doesn't sound very impressive, but my rationale is this: 1) They take the first three series (good start) but we visit TOR where we've had trouble and face a pretty good team. After taking three series, it's difficult to take a fourth straight. We get back on a roll with KC and MIN, but then go to the dreaded West where we fall back into a bit of a slump. Predictions are a bit tricky this early out. I'll be waiting to see how a couple of the ST "experiments" work out. For instance, Anderson in CF, Uribe at #2, etc.

got an 18...am pretty happy with that, considering a few questions are impossible. I'd love to meet the guy that scores 100%.

The closer situation for the Sox looks in 2006 like it did in 2005. People were wondering if Shingo would be able to continue baffling hitters. He didn't. Now, we're wondering about Jenks. Last year involved a lot of adjustments in the bullpen. Miraculously, we pulled it off. Shingo to Hermanson to Jenks. Fact is, we really don't know how this year will go...or if one reliever is lights out for a couple of months before another needs to be found.

Illlegal. Wrong. Despicable.

I thought the speech was a good one. Bush seemed relaxed and measured, but determined and concrete about some good and realistic goals. I give it an "A-"

Although I'm not a Dem, let me take a shot at why Byrd is voting FOR Alito. He's up for election in a state that is trending more and more conservative. He's stayed in office so long because he can bring home the pork very effectively...but even that, after a while, is not enough. He's starting to hear footsteps behind him.

I didn't think last year's turn out was so bad. There were a lot more WSIers, true, than soxtalk people, but someone said the number was over 200 tickets bought.

A shift to Chicago being a Sox town has begun, but it's going to take time. Sox stuff is apparent all over town. I've even seen it on the north side (Isn't this further proof God exists?). It will take time for the transformation to continue. On the one hand, the Cubs did have a beautiful confluence of WGN, the Trib, etc. On the other, let's face it, the Sox PR and Promotion Depts. sucked until the last couple of years. I think the Sox are doing an excellent job of bringing in kids and families and Latinos. Assuming the Sox continue to put a winning package on the field, I predict Chicago will be a Sox town in less than 10 years.

Don't despair yet, guys. There is some talk of maybe having a second or even more "Core of the Core" outings. Yes, there was talk about having it in the Summer months, BUT there was also a lot of talk about being there when Frank returns. There are LOTS of "Frankophiles" over at WSI. Getting Sox fans to agree on something--even a game--is harder than herding cats.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 01:18 AM) Can somebody explain to the stupid *waves* what exactly "core of the core" is? I know this is the 2nd year they are doing it. It's a game in which we Sox "fanatics" (hence called the 'core of the core') get together for food, brew, and a game where we can out-analyze each other... a good time guaranteed. You get to actually meet other people on this board and other Sox' boards.

I know I'm speaking "blasphemy," but can someone tell me how our own Barack Obama, who is portrayed in the media as walking on water, is any different from Dick Turban?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 11:44 AM) If he's healthy, I'm fully expecting 40 HR, and if he doesn't hit that while healthy, I will probably be disappointed. I wonder if you may be setting standards a little high. Think of this equation: Rowand + Thomas = Thome + Anderson (speaking only offensively right now) If this does happen, then it would be a wash. Is that a disappointment? Maybe. But if Thome and Anderson out produce what we would have expected from Rowand and Thomas, it's a net gain.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 29, 2006 -> 03:37 PM) Show the American people a single chart of buying power & how it trends over the next 20 yrs. Even those poor in math will be able to understand a downward trend. Making buying power the main slogan of the Dem campaign & shift all public debate towards it. I can't believe the Dems can't figure this out. Which is why I believe both parties are sleeping in the same global economy bed. That's why bulls*** issues continue to determine our electorate. I think there are two predicaments for any major party in addressing this point which has validity. 1) The Special Interest groups are more 'invested' in free trade positions, the same positions that lead to the economics you're talking about. They give generously to both parties and both parties return the favor, and 2) Other solutions (e.g., tariffs on imported goods) don't seem to work, especially in this 'shrinking world.'

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jan 29, 2006 -> 11:56 PM) I don't see all these pro-lifers who want all these women to have these kids, I don't see them paying the medical bills and paying for all the needs of the kid for 18 years. If you want them around so badly, take care of them. Actually, lots and lots of help is given to expectant mothers who feel as if they have no choice but to abort their children: counseling services, financial help from doctors and diapers. Should anyone wish to be edified by such help, PM me and I will be happy to give a tour of such places.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 01:43 AM) Yep, Thome knows his AL pitchers. I'm not too worried about it. This is a good point. I know that Thome did play for the Indians, but he's still making a transition from NL to AL. Think of John Olerud, for example. Started with Toronto, played for the Mets for a while, then to Seattle... I just don't know his stats to know if when he first went back to Seattle to know if he did better, same, or not so good, especially in the first weeks back.
-
For all the stats guys out there... Have NL players--especially the bigger stars like Thome--adjusted well to AL pitching and style of play? Is there usually some adjustment period? If so, we may have to be patient...not expecting him to hit 4 HRs during the first week of play.

QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jan 29, 2006 -> 05:02 PM) I was in every 2006 White Sox Seminar, and in everyone Ozzie stated that Anderson would bat 9th if he is our center fielder. I don't understand how these guys in the media mess this stuff up. Simple, because they get paid good money to misinform the uninformed.
