its harder to pitch when you are losing from the first inning on.

Thats not entirely true. Freddy has given up something like 25 runs in the 1st inn. of his 27 some odd starts. And many of those games he pitched gems from the 2nd inning on. El Duque has done the same in like his last three starts. Yeah it sucks to be losing from the gun, but good pitchers know how to focus better in that particular situation.

We won't get Omar, but he would provide exactly what we need at the bottom of the order:  a tough out!  We don't need more hitters with pop.  What we need our hitters who can execute in situations and not go up swinging weakly at the first pitch.  Our left side of the infield blows.

dude isnt that much better than Uribe in any offensive category. It wouldnt be worth it to give up what we would need to give up for him

I know that Griffey keeps coming up in trade rumors, but what about Sweeney at DH or Vizquel at SS?

we dont need another DH and Visquel doesnt provide enough pop, Uribe plays solid D and thats about all that Visquel would have to offer us

Santana is a closing horse, and he's started his stretch drive.  His numbers are actually relatively close to where they were last year at this time.

I just think it is really going to stick out in the voters minds that MB choked against Boston and then again in his next start when the team needed to get out of a slide he couldn't get it done again.

Not that it was completely MB's fault, cause it wasn't, he just needed a better outing than the one he had.

What the f*** are we doing?

you know that is going to be the picture on the cover of the sports section of tomorrows Sun-Times with some cheesy headline like "Sox: All Balk and No Action" or something stupid like that

    Paraphrasing the MLB rule book:

A club needs to secure MAJOR LEAGUE WAIVERS on a player in order to option him for assignment to either the ml club or a ML club when the date of assignment is >= 3 yrs from the date the player was first assigned to a ML club.  Option years spent prior to being assigned to a ML club count towards those 3 yrs.

I believe LA oneupped stuff when we had a Shingo collapse loss and they were undefeated, so yeah, there goes your big deal

well apparently I didn't pay close enough attention to the standings early on, if indeed that is the case

    oh well

    :P

  8. well whereas nobody else might care......I do care.

I think it would be a big deal if the Sox could lead the league "wire to wire". Does it mean anything? No especially if they dont win it all. But if they do happen to win it all it would be a nice exclamation point in my eyes.

  9. Ok

take this as you may, but, this so called easy schedule is filled with teams that arent going to make the playoffs. Which means that they have nothing to lose. A lot of times you will hear people talk as if these games are actually tougher to play because of that reason. These team's seasons are basically over so their main motivation comes from beating contenting teams, so they take on the "spoiler" role. They have no pressure on them because they are expected to lose. Whereas the Sox or the Red Sox or what have you have the pressure to not blow it down the stretch, which can make it tougher to win games. I don't know, Im not going to get worried until our lead dwindles to like 5 games or so.

  10. QUOTE(SHAFTR @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 01:38 AM)
    Hitters:

    Most Important:  OPS+

Overated:  BA w/ RISP  this will suffer due to sacrfices plus with a large sample size over 95% of players will have a BA w/ RISP that will be within a 95% confidence Interval of their BA.

To say the BA w/RISP will suffer due to sacrifices makes no sense, considering a sacrifice doesn't count as an AB
