  1. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 12:18 PM) It's possible the Rockies could move an outfielder like Blackmon and then use some of the prospects they get for him in a Q trade. Stark on Blackmon: Jayson StarkVerified account ‏@jaysonst Teams that spoke to the Rockies seem doubtful Charlie Blackmon gets traded: "They're only trading him if they get an Adam Eaton type deal."
  2. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 12:04 PM) I do feel like asking for Rodgers and Dahl plus an additional 2 pieces would kind of be asking for a lot. A deal would probably be more along the lines of Rodgers, Tapia (could plug him into center next season), and then 2-3 additional pieces. I guess it kind of depends on who else they move from the OF and how serious they are about Desmond at 1B or acquiring another. The Rockies will move Blackmon this offseason if they move any OF. Blackmon has 3 years of team control left, but he's already 30. The Sox wouldn't have any interest, but plenty of contending teams should have interest there. Honestly, I think a fair deal between the Sox and the Rockies would be Q for Rodgers, Hoffman/Pint, and Tapia (if Pint instead of Hoffman, maybe the Sox get a 4th piece accounting for the risk of a HS pitcher). With the exception maybe of Hoffman, all those are parts the Rockies would/should be willing to move. Their system and needs match up well with the Sox on Q.
  3. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 10:50 AM) All you have to do is make sure that congress investigates this with the same vigor as things like "Monica Lewinsky" and "deleted emails." You have to hope that there will be some Republican's who actually care about the people who served this country and died in service of the United States. Because anything less is a disgrace to them. They may as well have just sat home if you were going to let a foreign entity run this country. Or BENGHAZI!!!!! Seriously though, there's enough evidence that Russia did attempt to influence the election, so you have to hope that there are enough Republicans in Congress with the integrity to make sure that this is actually investigated. The Democrats don't have enough seats/votes to do it by themselves. This is an issue that should transcend party...
  4. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 11:26 AM) Where's he going to play? Why are they looking at Trumbo? 0 chance Desmond stays at first. All the Rockies news says they are trying to move Blackmon. Dahl/Desmond/CarGo would then be the OF. They make a move still for 1B, whether signing Trumbo or EE, or addressing it via trade. Abreu is a relevant option for them, but they aren't going to give up a starter in '17 to upgrade either 1B or the rotation. The thing to remember here is that the Nationals package and the Red Sox package both sent back premium prospects, but neither sent back players that the Nats or Red Sox were counting on this year. The Rockies and Astros aren't going to offer guys they are counting on this year either. Dahl had an .859 OPS over 222 MLB at bats last year, and looks like the Rockies starter in LF this year. They aren't moving him in a Q package. ETA: Parra was awful last year. Rockies are looking at him as their 4th OF.
  5. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 11:09 AM) Not even that ChiSox. If Quintana AND Abreu are going, i'm requesting Dahl, Rodgers, Hoffman +2 lottery tickets That's seriously overvaluing Abreu. If the Sox couldn't get Dahl + Rodgers for Q, then you are assuming that they would get Dahl for Abreu which flat out isn't happening. The one thing we should be learning this offseason is that teams aren't going to move guys they are counting on this year for the Sox assets. Dahl is going to be playing everyday for the Rockies this year. I'll be stunned if the Rockies move him.
  6. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 10:36 AM) You have to look at it through Fox lenses though. He knows he needs to win next season, and after all the crap that happened this year with Hoyer basically taking the job from Cutler until he broke his arm, I imagine Cutler probably is pretty salty about it because thats how he is. Fox knows someone like Romo is gonna come in and want to show he still has it, and it pretty much fits the mold of what Fox has done over his career, get a seasoned vet(delhomme was basically plug and play, and then there was Manning) who knows what he is doing and let the defense rampage. I think there is a lot of Cutler fatigue and everyone probably wants to go their own separate ways. I just think that's an insanely bad way to go about running this Bears team. Note that I'm not advocating bringing Cutler back - it's more of an argument against bringing in an FA stopgap. If Fox isn't happy with a rookie QB, then maybe Pace needs to part ways with him and bring in somebody who will work through a real rebuild. Fox has done an excellent job with the defense, but it's not close to being playoff ready or better. There's nobody on the FA market that solidifies the QB position long term. It's time to draft a QB and give them the reins.
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 09:36 AM) That could mean we go the veteran QB route (Romo, for example). If people think we are going to go into next year with Barkley and Hoyer, well, I'd be left speachless at that. By the way, I think if we got rid of Fox, I'd like to hire McDaniels and keep Fangio. I doubt it would work cause you don't want to force a DC on a coach and no one knows how their dynamic might work, but I do like the idea of McDaniels running the show and being our QB guru. I'd also be open to Shanny's son. I'd want an offensive coach and the front office would then need to give big bucks to Vic. Toub is another name that I would probably think long and hard about, as long as he had the clout to bring in the right offensive mind. The nice thing about the offensive head coach (with a well paid DC) is that you don't run the risk of your offensive system walking out the door in the midst of your QB's development. I think that is a bigger risk then a DC walking out the door. If you are going the veteran route, I don't know why you wouldn't just bring Cutler back. The cost of cutting him is minimal this offseason and next. There's no one on the open market that can be your long term solution at QB, so I'm not sure why you wouldn't just roll with Cutler for another year. I don't think there's any way around it though - if the Bears are moving off Cutler, they have to draft a QB early next year (1st or 2nd round) and give them the reins.
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 09:20 AM) I don't expect it to ultimately hold, but there are a handful of Republicans that have at least questioned some of these nominations, such as Rubio on Tillerson. On the other hand, former Sec. Rice and Robert Gates strongly recommend him, and oh they just happen to own a consulting firm that has Exxon-Mobile as clients. Drain the swamp! Someone needs to send "Profiles in Courage" to all the Republican Senators. Tillerson and Perry are absolutely insane picks, and someone over there needs to grow a spine and fight back. Republicans pushed back on Bush over Harriet Miers. Maybe they will do the same here...
  9. http://www.vox.com/science-and-health/2016...obamacare-trump Thought this was a pretty interesting read about why people who benefit from the ACA voted for Trump...
  10. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 11, 2016 -> 03:58 PM) I, for one, don't particularly love Tapia. I would much prefer McMahon or even Wall over Tapia. The package I really want from the Rockies is probably Rodgers/McMahon/Wall/intriguing arm. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/top-24-pros...lorado-rockies/ Fangraphs review of Rockies' prospects. They are pretty down on McMahon.
  11. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 11, 2016 -> 03:55 PM) When is LeMahieu a free agent? If Rodgers bat is really good, they'll find another position for him. He's signed through 2017. Arenado is under Rockies control through 2019.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 11, 2016 -> 02:32 PM) I know people like outside media: http://www.purplerow.com/2016/12/11/139088...icago-white-sox Pretty reasonable!! Amazing to me was fans main objections were to trading pitchers (not Rodgers) And who could blame them with their history and stadium, but package 3 I find entirely reasonable. Go Rockies trade. Rodgers as a centerpiece makes sense to me. Trevor Story had a .900 OPS last year, and DJ Lamaheiu had an all-star season at 2B. So Rodgers is an expendable piece, and an elite piece for the Sox to get back. Rodgers + Tapia is a really good start to a package for me. I think that's a reasonable starting point. Don't have that much preference on the third piece. The Rockies are going for it and desperately need a TOR starter. Go Rockies trade.
  13. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Dec 11, 2016 -> 12:39 PM) Is there any chatter about Colorado or are we just speculating they'd be a good match? Some chatter on the Rockies boards about it being a good fit, but nothing concrete from any official capacity (and sports radio out here isn't interested in anything that isn't the Broncos at the moment). The majority of the Rockies chatter has them trying to move Blackmon for starter and chasing Trumbo.
  14. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 02:26 PM) I don't agree. Just like I wouldn't blame Clinton for her supporters bombing a campaign office of Trump. Stupid people do stupid things. Unless he was calling for his supporters to go after her, even indirectly, simply commenting on her doesn't make him responsible for what stupid people decide to do. Is it Presidential? No. Should he be doing it? No. A Presidential candidates negative comments toward a private citizen causes his supporters to threaten and harass that person for over a year. A President elects negative comments toward a private citizen cause his supporters to threaten and harass that person and his family members. Whether Trump intends that response from his supporters is irrelevant. The effect of Trump singling out private citizens who say mean things about him is threats and harassment toward that person. Trump continuing to call out individual, private citizens who fall on his radar is dangerous and irresponsible. This is different than campaign rhetoric. Even if a Clinton supporter bombed that GOP HQ because Clinton called Trump supporters deplorables, Clinton did not, in any way shape or form, target that particular HQ or any of the specific individuals who worked there. Simply put, Trump singling out individuals is dangerous and irresponsible behavior from the President of the United States.
  15. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 01:27 PM) Hold up, there are s***ty people on the internet? NO WAY. Just today a dude that got a Cowboys Superbowl Champs tattoo got death threats over the internet. People are awful when given an anonymous platform. We've known this for years. Jenks, stop being obtuse. Every time Trump has attacked an individual on Twitter since the campaign began, that person has been subjected to all kinds of threats and harassment on social media by Trump's supporters. Thus, the effect of saying bad things about Trump in a public forum is that he attacks you on social media, and you get threats from his supporters. That's really, really bad! The difference between the Trump stuff and the guy getting a Cowboys Superbowl tattoo is that one of them is caused by the inappropriate actions of the President Elect of the United States, and the other is not.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 11:12 AM) There is no way in hell Anthony Kennedy would allow that, let alone Justice Roberts. Supreme court isn't seriously in trouble unless RBG dies. Roberts cares about his legacy as Chief Justice way too much to allow severe government overreach (on issues that aren't social issues). He's not going to be the vote that keeps Roe v. Wade in tact (Kennedy will remain that vote), but I except that he will vote down any real overreach otherwise. Echoing the posts above, I have zero faith that Paul Ryan will do anything to stop the Trump agenda.
  17. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 07:43 AM) Houston could go after Archer but I think the Rays (like the Sox) are in the driver's seat and will want a haul for him, though less than what Q would require. Imho, Houston is waiting it out hoping Hahn drops the price, which is not going to happen. I do think Houston can get a trade done without Bregman but Hahn is smart in holding out to see if Houston eventually caves in. Also, let's not forget the Rockies. The moves they have made show they want to compete in that division and have the bats to entice the Sox in a trade. Colorado has too many bats and not enough pitching so on paper they seem like a good fit for a trade partner. Seems like the Rockies are trying to use Blackmon to get a starter which doesn't do anything for the Sox. They may still be in the market for Abreu, and I really do think that Q makes way too much sense for the Rockies to not get involved at some point, but it seems like the Rockies' plans don't include Q at the moment.
  18. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 10:34 AM) Didn't Trump and his supporters get death threats over the internet during the campaign? Shouldn't Clinton and her team have done the same thing, put away their phones? Where was the outcry that she was starting her own authoritarian regime? At some point we just have to accept there are morons in the world. And those morons are given anonymous platforms on the internet to say stupid s***. That doesn't mean the person they support is becoming a dictator or showing signs of wanting to be one. That's just conspiracy theory nonsense. There are two important distinctions here. The first is that Trump directly attacked an individual citizen on Twitter - not a political opponent, but an individual citizen who criticized Trump. That's bad for a whole host of reasons. And if Hillary Clinton had done that during her campaign, I'd be more inclined to jump to #bothsides. The second is that Trump didn't respond to what the Carrier Union Leader actually criticized him on. Rather, Trump avoided the issue and went after the guy personally. That's also bad for a whole host of reasons. The thing that shouldn't be lost is the effect this has. If Trump continues to attack individuals who criticize him, and those people get threats from the crazies in the Trump supporter ranks, then Trump's acts have the potential - whether intentional or not - to quiet speech against him. That's not something that we should be taking lightly here...
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 10:46 AM) Another name in a potential trade partner is Murphy from COL. I'm under the impression that Murphy's issue is whether his defense can stick behind the plate. And he's 26 years old. Don't get me wrong, I'd like him as part of a package with the Rockies as a back end piece, but it's hard to see where Murphy fits in a long rebuild.
  20. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 10:23 AM) You're taking a huge leap in logic though that criticizing someone publicly means you're secretly telling your followers to lynch him. Apparently Clinton is responsible for that bombing at a Trump campaign office because she was so anti-Trump and instilled fear in her followers that a Trump Presidency would destroy the country. I don't think it even needs to go that far though. The fact that this guy has received threats should be enough to make Trump step back and put away the phone. Trump probably doesn't intend for his supporters to attack this guy over social media, but that's the impact of his actions. If Trump doesn't see that, that reflects poorly on him. If he does see that and continues to call out individuals who disagree with him via social media, then that's probably worse.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:36 PM) And they did it by loading up on position players. Bryant, Schwarber, Soler, Russell, Baez, etc. Notice a theme there? Then they spent money to get established pitching. Other than Russell, they built those guys through the draft though. In trades, you get back the best package of players you can get. In the draft, if you like a pitcher and a hitter equally, you can choose to pick the hitter. I think that's a pretty big distinction here.
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:15 PM) I prefer the Dodgers / Rangers in a Q trade, cause they tend to have more quality talent vs. Astros. Will be interesting to see what happens. Still hoping the Rockies get involved...
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:34 PM) You've won me over. This really is the dumbest organization in baseball. Only the White Sox could lack position players, and then trade their best chips for pitching. We need to fire everyone up top and start over. Two of the top three pieces in the Boston trade are position players. And after moving Sale, the Sox pitching surplus went down as well. I continue to be baffled by your position here.
  24. QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:27 PM) Totally unrelated note: If Frazier isn't bringing back a lot of interest because of his 1 year left, I'd be fine trying to work out a small extension for Frazier. I think it's important to have SOME sort of leadership in the clubhouse, especially when there are a ton of young guys around, and Frazier seems like he fits that bill. Again, that's only if he is down for playing "dad" and Hahn can't get good value. This. Part of the rebuild will absolutely be bringing in established, good clubhouse guys to provide leadership.
  25. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:36 PM) This is fair, but loading up on arms means you have tradeable assets to get proven, MLB ready bats when the roster is ready to compete for real. Yep. Couple things to add: 1) Like has been mentioned here previously, we all assume that Q moves for position player headliners; 2) Part of the problem last year, at a minimum, is that the rotation was brutal after the top 3 with not a lot of immediate help in the system after Fulmer. The depth of pitching in the system today is great. 3) There are two very early picks coming. It's hard to imagine the Sox aren't going to be picking in the top 3 in the '18 draft. Bats are going to be a priority in those drafts. The fact that people are complaining about Eaton for a top 5 prospect, a top 40 prospect, and a first round pick in the '16 draft is baffling to me.
