QUOTE (juddling @ Sep 26, 2016 -> 11:54 AM) Hmmm....so why do I keep hearing that this kind of stuff never happens so having an ID to vote is stupid.... The dead rise (to vote) in colorado..... Colorado largely does mail-in ballots though (which the article acknowledges and was the basis of the majority of the examples). So a valid voter ID wouldn't stop someone that passed away from wrongly receiving a ballot in the mail and then mailing a filled in ballot back in. Voter ID laws would not have stopped this type of fraud, because even with that ID requirement, the person doesn't need to go to a polling place to cast a ballot...

I switched to Vue last week and am running it through the PS3. The guide lags quite a bit, and there's the occasional buffering/random time when the system resets itself, but overall I've been happy with it. I get all the ESPNs and BTN as well which is huge. Best advantage over cable is that I'm not paying to rent a box, and no contract, so I should save a ton of money on the switch. Edit: It is the actual ESPN on Vue, not the Watch ESPN app.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 21, 2016 -> 02:36 PM) I am assuming you are at least in your 30's though? A poly sci degree is not a good investment. I am from around you if your location is current and everybody knows somebody. It's a lot easier and cheaper to find someone to help you get in a union than it is to get a good degree. My buddy's brother has a felony and he still got in the electricians' union. I have uncles, cousins, neighbors, friends' dads and baseball coaches who were union. Daley's South Side is full of them. Unless you go to trade school, no degree is worse. Even administrative assistants are expected to have degrees now. It's a much steeper hill to climb to get to middle class without a degree...

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 11:09 AM) It's not just that they're 0-2, it's how they're losing. The offense is atrocious. The defense is not good. They're WAY behind where I thought they would be, even if they weren't expected to win many games this year. Did you honestly look at the Bears' secondary and think it was ready to stop NFL offenses? I thought the Bears looked ok in Week 1, and fine until the wheels fell off for Cutler in the second half of Week 2. This offseason, they shored up the worst set of linebackers in the NFL and added two potentially really good pieces to the d-line. Injuries have hurt this year. Goldman looked really good, and hopefully that injury isn't serious. They can't afford McPhee to be hurt constantly. They need Fuller to make a leap to being a respectable corner, but he's hurt so no progress on that front. Honestly, I think the defense has looked better than I expected it to look.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 11:07 AM) I suppose, but how does that advance the ball at all? They have so many positions to fill. Wouldn't it be better to fill multiple spots of need instead of having one decent WR whose presence isn't going to change the fact that this team isn't winning anytime soon? Assuming the Bears draft a QB next year, the most important thing for that QB is to advance and become an above average QB in the NFL. That's the most important thing for the franchise going forward. If you draft Watson and surround him with Langford, Royal, and White, he's way more likely to fail than if you surround him with an actual above average NFL weapon in Jeffrey. Put the future of your franchise in a position to succeed. Don't make it easier for him to fail. There's a lot wrong with this roster, but it's already in the middle of a rebuild. You don't get rid of all above average players to make the rebuild longer. You take the pieces that are already in place, and supplement that through the draft and FA. Plus, there's plenty of money for Jeffrey. This franchise is at least 3 years away from being actually competitive. The defense improved by adding Freeman and Tevathan without breaking the bank. They still need to completely overhaul the secondary - which is awful - and they need to find a pass rush. If Floyd and Bullard are good, that helps things significantly on the defensive side of the ball. And they need the line to pass protect better. Sitton and Long should be fine. Whitehair is a rookie. The tackles need to be upgraded badly. The point here is simple - you don't wave a magic wand and become a contender. This is a process, and a complete overhaul from the end of the Trestman era. You don't short circuit the rebuild by letting your best offensive weapon walk - particularly if you are planning to bring along a rookie QB.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 10:42 AM) Which of those arguments do you disagree with? People should still go to every game and give that family more money for a poor product? People should continue to pretend like Ditka and the 85 Bears were the recent past? They shouldn't blow the entire franchise up and start from square one? I mean, to some extent they are on this road already, I realize that. I'm saying pick up the pace and really blow it up. There's no reason to have Jeffrey on the roster. It's a valuable chip. Get something for him before it's too late. The Bears have the money to lock up Jeffrey long term. If they end up drafting a QB next year, it sure would make that QB's transition easier if he has Jeffrey around.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 10:32 AM) It's completely fair to be down on Jay and still understand that changing coordinators so often has probably affected his performance because how couldn't it? The two great "What Ifs" of the Jay Cutler era. What if he doesn't get hurt in the NFC Championship game vs. Green Bay and what if he doesn't get hurt on that pick vs. San Diego in 2011 when the Bears were 7-3. Both years, the Bears still had the defense to win. Since that time, no QB would have changed the direction for the Bears. Too many years of misses in the draft. The defensive core aged out without adequate replacements. Now, Jay Cutler is so far down the list of problems with this roster. It's been a complete rebuild over the last couple years, and it's not even close to being done. Really disappointed in the Goldman injury. He looked really, really good the first two weeks.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Sep 19, 2016 -> 06:17 PM) Im very liberal on most social issues. I have been adamantly for gay marriage and LGBT rights for as long as I can remember. While I dont doubt that Hillary would be better for things like that I also am not convinced Trump has any plans to try to stifle the progress theyve made. I might be wrong about that but it isnt something Ive heard people complaining about. The Supreme Court is impossible to be happy with when youre socially liberal and fiscally conservative. Im likely not going to be happy either way. I didnt mind Garland actually but I also did no research into him so I may have missed stuff. I just think that there is pretty much zero chance she doesnt get caught up with this server stuff and get impeached if she wins. Take a look at Mike Pence's record on LGBT rights. IF Trump's agenda is influenced in any way, shape, or form by Pence, then you will get a socially conservative presidency, and a socially conservative court. I know this is echoing what SB said previously, but even if Clinton gets impeached if elected, impeachment does not remove her from office. She needs to be tried and convicted by the Senate, and that just is extremely unlikely to happen. And even if she were to be convicted by the Senate, Kaine isn't a social conservative. So he would still be more in line with your beliefs on LGBT rights, and more likely to appoint SCOTUS justices who will maintain Obergfell.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 09:21 AM) Something I was thinking about Re: Chelsea/NJ bombings. There is zero narrative that this man could not be tried in US court system, or that it poses too much risk and he should be moved to GB. http://theconcourse.deadspin.com/lindsey-g...rica-1786824584 Lindsey Graham is pushing that narrative. It is a scary narrative. The bomber is a US citizen and needs to be tried as a US citizen...

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Sep 19, 2016 -> 04:33 PM) I dont want any of them. Its a very frustrating election for me. As I mentioned a few days ago I would have preferred Bernie, or even Biden than any of these people and I really disagree with their politics. My strongest opinion in this election is Id rather have anyone on the planet as President than Hillary Clinton, its just really unfortunate that the only plausible way for that to happen now is with Donald Trump. DB - I'm curious regarding your political stance on social issues. To me, that's the biggest reason to avoid Trump. Take a look at Trump's Supreme Court list and the positions they have taken in the past. http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-elec...t-idUSKCN0YA2XV If you are at all concerned about LGBT rights - including the right to marriage - or are concerned about decisions like Citizens United, then I urge you to really look at the difference between Trump and Clinton on those appointments. A lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court is a crazy powerful thing...

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2016 -> 04:13 PM) Don't you know in order to question the death of innocents, you have to have a doctoral thesis ready to go? Well, DB did blame that on Clinton (at least tangentially by lumping it in to his original post re: Clinton's many problems). I also don't see anyone in this thread defending the fact that the US bombed the wrong group. It's not the first time this has happened in the last 15 years and, sadly, it probably won't be the last. It's a tragedy, just like it was a tragedy when the US hit the Doctor's Without Borders hospital. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kunduz_hospital_airstrike What's been problematic about those posts is it lays blame for the destabilization of the Middle East at the feet of Obama/Clinton when that's been going on for significantly longer than that. If you are arguing that Obama/Clinton are responsible for the destabilization of the Middle East, or if you are arguing that the US should not intervene in conflicts in the Middle East, you are in fact taking a policy position and should be prepared to defend that position...

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Sep 19, 2016 -> 04:16 PM) Also, its kind of sad that people arent bothered by the fact that the media is manipulating information to try and influence our presidential election. I know a lot of people around here dont care because it is attempting to help the dems but it is setting a pretty scary precedent. That and the DHS falsifying statistics because they know the real numbers would help Trump in the election. Link?

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Sep 19, 2016 -> 02:37 PM) You also conveniently left out the irrefutable proof that Hillary committed multiple crimes and is being very actively pursued by the House Oversight Committee. However, as I was informed earlier that is probably something the dems should be discussing in their own thread. Unless I'm mistaken, the two examples you raised of Clinton committing multiple crimes was (1) Benghazi; and (2) the e-mail server. As to the first, I don't know how much time and money needs to be spent investigating Clinton on Benghazi, or how many times those investigations needs to not find evidence of wrongdoing, before the Republicans stop wasting everyone's time on it. http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/st...-probes-so-far/ As to the second, the FBI investigated Clinton and found nothing criminal. So I'm not sure where you come up with the "irrefutable proof that Hillary committed multiple crimes" from. Yes, the use of the private server shows was extremely careless and showed a lack of judgment on Clinton's part. http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archiv...enghazi/396182/ As to why I'm ultimately supporting Clinton over Trump? This President is going to appoint at least one, and probably more, Supreme Court Justices. Because those are lifetime appointments, and they have a heavy influence on social issues, I would feel much, much better with Clinton picking those candidates than Trump. As to the other issues, bmags covered them all pretty well.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 16, 2016 -> 11:25 AM) I mean, fine, one is obnoxiously, narcissistically boastful about it, the other just likes to pretend she's always been about equal rights for people despite her husband signing DOMA into law. They both still want to pretend like they've always been on the right side of the issue. The manner in which they do it is similar to how they talk about any issue. Has Clinton actually done that though? Has she said that she always supported gay marriage? I honestly don't know. Echoing other people. We can say Clinton was wrong about gay marriage 14 years ago, and that she has course corrected since that time. There is a legitimate criticism in there about Clinton following the prevailing political winds. We cannot say that Trump was wrong about birtherism over the last 8 years and course corrected since that time. Trump literally said that the whole thing was Hillary Clinton's fault, and he rode to the rescue to put the issue to bed. Those two examples are not even close to comparable.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 02:08 PM) Hah I wondered if that would affect anyone. I was down 4 with Cousins in a league where QB TDs are worth 6 and neither of us had anybody in the late game. That late INT hurt...

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 10, 2016 -> 08:52 PM) Racism is OK if it supports my candidate. Yep. Because Trump clearly isn't appealing to a white nationalist demographic that is unprecedented in my lifetime. But both side amirite...

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 10, 2016 -> 08:50 PM) As was doubling down on what got us here. You still haven't suggested an alternative ETA: I don't intend to downplay nukes in North Korea. But now that they have them, the options are either deal with them and hope MAD leads to them not using the nukes or an invasion which brings in China and WW3. Neither are good options, but I don't see a magical third alternative.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 10, 2016 -> 02:02 PM) Nah, we should just keep pretending nothing is wrong. That only allowed NK to obtain and test nuclear materials. No harm there. Good specific response!
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 9, 2016 -> 04:08 PM) Yet some technology got from Pakistan to NK. So what increased response from the US is necessary here? NK has been sanctioned into oblivion. An actual invasion is WWIII. I'm sure that the US is putting diplomatic pressure on China for a stronger response from their end. What would you like for the US to do here?
-
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 9, 2016 -> 03:33 PM) Yeah and I wouldn't mind that. How much of China's economy do we account for? It's time to start exerting some pressure on them to kick NK into gear. edit: obviously aimed at the first part of your post, not the second! If the options are let NK saber rattle with the slight chance of nuclear proliferation vs. WW3, I tend to err on the side of let them saber rattle. Granted, I'm no expert on Asia, but it seems like proliferation in Pakistan is way more of a threat than proliferation from a peninsula with China on one side and South Korea on the other.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 9, 2016 -> 09:02 AM) For a 7th round rookie who hadn't thrown a single pass in the NFL, going against the top team in the league (or top 3 at worst), on national TV for the first game of the season? I'd give him a solid B+. He didn't make too many mistakes, made some tough throws and some creative throws. And led 2 late 2nd half drives for scores. Yeah, Anderson was the key, but still. If you're Denver you gotta be excited that he played as good if not better than Manning last year and he's got way more upside going forward. He was fine. He got the ball out quickly, but really struggled when he had to get through his progressions. And I agree that for who Semien is (a 7th round pick who had never thrown an NFL pass), not falling flat on his face is a win. He won't win the Broncos games with his arm. He's there to not turn the ball over (though he did twice) and let the run game and the defense win games. CJ Anderson was great. The Broncos D was really, really good in the 2nd half. But they aren't going to win a lot of games where they are -2 in the turnover department. The crazy thing to me is that Elway put the Broncos into this position. They have a nasty, fast, elite defense. Those units don't operate at an historic level for long. Elway can't possibly expect another playoffs where his QB doesn't need to make some plays late. Counting on a QB combo of Seimien and Paxton Lynch to win another Super Bowl seems like a fools errand to me.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 08:59 AM) Damn. Ya, that's one where at least for me, I'd be guaranteed to bench the wrong guy every week. Yeah, that's exactly what I expect to happen. Should only be an issue for 3 weeks though...

QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 08:41 AM) I'm just hesitant to play him since last year Woodhead only had 1 pt against KC defense. I read somewhere they are good against receiving RBs so I think I'll opt to play Wheaton. Yeah, injuries forced Woodhead into a major role for me last year in my main league. He doesn't get enough carries to worry about the Chiefs' run defense. It's kind of hit or miss whether Rivers dinks and dumps his way downfield.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 08:56 AM) No flex spot in the 2nd league? Sadly, no.
-
Two very different roster decisions in two leagues - both are 12 team leagues, neither are PPR: The first is my main league. It's a keeper league with rampant trading. I kept Watkins, Cooper, and Bell and lucked into Antonio Brown. Because of the keeper league, RBs were very sparse. I have Deangelo Williams, so I'm covered through Bell's suspension, but my options for the 2nd RB spot are: Forsett Yeldon Duke Johnson I'm leaning toward Forsett because he's probably the starter there - at least until Dixon gets back. Duke Johnson has less value since it's not a PPR league. I don't have any idea as to how the Jags backfield shakes out, but sounds like Ivory is going to get the first crack at carries. Not feeling great about the RB situation there though. The second league, I have to pick two to start out of: Lamar Miller David Johnson Deangelo Williams I kind of feel like this one is a close your eyes and pick 2 type of decision...
