QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 02:08 PM) Will someone answer me this....why are we swinging at everything Silva throws? He's not going to strike you out. Be patient, and make him get the ball up. Thats a very good question. This team just has not had a very good approach against anyone the past couple weeks.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 02:07 PM) How many tools is he down to again? 0?

QUOTE(Allsox @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 02:06 PM) Great, if that happens, we're gonna hafta to countdown to Spring Training of '07 then. Orton just plain sucks. Don't forget Brian Griese. The Bears at least have QB depth this year. STRING TOGETHER HITS!!!

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 01:48 PM) There's Fathom's right handed hitting outfielder. We all know he can play CF!! Nice play JD
-
Outside of Little League, I've only seen the fake to third throw to first play work once... Sean Lowe against the Cubs, can anyone else think of one. And spiff, why the contact play there? 1 out, 1st and 2nd
-
And I'll eat some crow there, good job hitting behind the 2B by JD. Keep stringing together the hits!

QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 01:32 PM) hawk loooooves minnesota Was PK running there? I hope the jump was massive, a strike him out throw him out is not helpful right now.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 01:27 PM) I know, it's too bad we can't get a "Mulder" package from them. They have a couple solid young arms on the Major League roster right now... Wainwright and Reyes, but I highly doubt they are for sale with the lack of depth the Cards already have pitching.
-
Well, at least we got a commercial for Major League right there... the only movie that could make me like the Indians. Though I will admit that in the theater during Major League II, I actively booed when the Indians beat the White Sox. And I'm rambling now. String together some hits!

QUOTE(Sonik22 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 01:10 PM) I actually hate to say this but Dusty baker actually looks like a better manager than ozzie right now! Heres their differences: Ozzie: Contreras pitching great but in trouble in the 7th with two runners on in a tie game. Instead of bringing in a reliever he wants jose to have a chance to get a win. Hitter ends up hitting a 3 run HR. sox lose. jose loses. Dusty: Mark Prior has a no-hitter through 5 and even brings it into the 6th but he walks a guy with 1 out. Dusty makes a change for a quality reliever and the cubs get out of the inning game still tied. I would love for our starters to get the win but getting the win is more important rather than leaving the starter in to get hit. Dont kid yourself, Dusty only did that because Prior is just off the DL. If that was Zambrano he would have been out there till his arm fell off. Sigh, fortunately Silva is on the bump for the bad guys.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 12:57 PM) We are trying to hang on to the wild card, and save a possible sweep at home. And he dicks around. I hated Manuel and his sunday lineups, but he only did it once a week. Gooch and Anderson have to be the most subbed out on our team. Followed by Pods. Anderson can get hits off of Randy Johnson and Mike Mussina, but he needs to rest against the mighty carlos silva. No kidding, I heard Mack and Cintron on the radio. Against the mighty Carlos Silva, Anderson's offense shouldnt kill the team, his defense could in fact save it. Hopefully MB is back to form today and the offense makes the Ozzie "Sunday lineup" look brilliant. Come on boys, need this one today badly.

QUOTE(dasox24 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 12:47 PM) I check this thread everyday, so I'd definitely appreciate it if you'd post that kind of stuff. I second that. -
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 09:23 PM) Mike looks like a dropped down BMac with a more violent delivery. Seriously, him and BMac could be brothers

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 08:40 PM) So gooch just decided on his own to run to 3rd. He didnt pick up his third base coach at all. Come on now. Right decision to send him there, you're trying to scratch out every run you can. It took a great throw and a bad call (and slide) to get Gooch at 3rd there.

Jose answers. Still 1-1 heading to the bottom of 6. This reminds me of that McCarthy-Santana game last year, hopefully with a better result for the Sox

QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 08:22 PM) well you know what, umpires make mistakes, hopefully the ump finds some consistency, but if it we can always remember during the playoffs where the call went our way every time Oh, I'm not disagreeing with you, clearly they make mistakes and clearly the AJ call was close in the playoffs. And I am also aware that different umps have different strike zones. As such, the only time I get upset with officiating/umpiring is when it is inconsistent. If a pitch is a strike in the first, it should be a strike in the ninth. If it's a foul in the 1st quarter, it should be a foul in the 4th.
-
QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 08:15 PM) as true as it might be, hawks gotta stop blaming the umpires I do some umpiring for local leagues, and I don't even remember what teams up when I'm making calls so its not as easy at as it seems, but when a team sucks lately, it seems like everything goes against us True, it isnt as easy as it seems, I used to ump as well, but when you are a professional, the least you can expect is consistency. And yes, Hawk is a pro too and needs to stop getting upset with the umps. But that doesnt mean he isn't right, there have been 2 different strike zones today and once (see ball 4 in the first, the one he took not the one he swung at, for Pablo in the 1st) it may have cost the Sox a run.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 08:10 PM) Is it bad that I don't recall seeing this LoJack caught stealing icon all year? Haha, I was thinking that too, not a whole lot of recognition on broadcasts with that sponsorship.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 08:04 PM) I would agree, but I was just wondering today if he's actually helped us offensively win a game since the first game of the year. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7489/g...O5z9qqjiSeFCLcF BA's hitting game log for the season. And nice throw from Sandy there. Very inconsistent strike zone so far tonight for both teams

QUOTE(stretchstretch @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 07:45 PM) I'll tell you if Detroit can come right back from a 7 run first inning deficit, they deserve this division more than we do....damn that's fighting...... This Sox team came back from some large deficits in the first half as well.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 07:26 PM) Dont get cocky over the solo homer in the first. We have hit solo homers off of Johan before. Well, reason for optimism, 1 run and I think Santana threw over 20 pitches that inning. Hawk, "we've had some lefties that havent hit Santana well over the years." Thats something of an understatement

JIM!!!!!!!!!!!

Way to pitch out of it Count! I dont understand the shots at Sandy here, it's not like AJ or the Widge threw out many runners... ever... especially with Contreras on the mound.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 06:34 PM) I was wondering the same thing when Garfein (sp?) mentioned the three deals. Thinking about this logically for a second... The bullpen is set. You have Jenks as the closer, Cotts/MacD/Thorton as your setup men (McCarthy, sort of, too), and Riske + McCarthy as your middle relievers/long men. I know we've been clamoring for a trade of Garcia or Vazquez, but I just don't think either of those two will be going anywhere. In the offseason, I'm guessing Garcia will be packing his bags, but it's going to be tough as hell completing a deal with so much money involved, not to mention stretching out McCarthy for the next month in preparing him for his full-time rotation job. That leaves the offense. Podsednik looks like the only starter who has a shot at being replaced. Gload is the only bench guy who might be replaced; I'm talking about looking for a real fourth OFer, someone who can play all three spots, not just the corners. How about a package deal with Washington for Ryan Church and Soriano? Of course, if Church is going to cost another good prospect, then I'd just say forget about it and look for someone else, but I'd be willing to throw in another middling prospect for Church. Church and Soriano in, Pods and prospects out without losing BMAC would be spectacular. Hopefully the mets get some rough starts in the next couple days, I could definitely see one of the deals being Freddy to the Mets.
