  1. QUOTE(Reddy @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 07:30 PM) guys is it funny that i look at HR: Paul Konerko (22) and think, wow pauly's not hitting many homers so far... i think thome's spoiling me Dye too. How great that PK is 3rd in HRs on the team?
  2. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 06:57 PM) BA whiffs on a slider down and in after falling behind, but Juan had a nice hit and the Sox got another run. Inge made another great play to start the inning though (robbing Konerko) so thats twice where an early Inge play may have prevented a potential big inning for the Sox. We have hit Robertson but 2 runs to show thus far. Hopefully Jon can just keep kicking butt. The post inning updates are much appreciated for those of us that are WCIU-less and only get descriptions like "Konerko grounded out to 3rd." Keep it going JG
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 10:36 PM) Let me add this....in a perfect world, we would hold on to Fields the rest of this season, re-sign Joe Crede, and then Fields, Broadway, and Tracey (among others) as the centerpiece in a deal to either get Carl Crawford, D. Willis, or M. Cabrera. Agreed, especially on Crawford because that would mean the end of Pods defense in LF after this season. However, as was said, trading for Crawford now makes no sense because it creates more problems on the team this year than it solves. Likewise in a perfect world, Freddy and Vazquez turn it around and the rotation solidifies itself thereby exstinguishing the need to deal at the deadline. Unfortunately, as it sits now, the Sox need some extra help and unfortunately may need to overpay to get it.
  4. Adding Linebrink and Cameron fills 3 holes on this team... you add your righty setup man, your 4th OF (no more Mack in CF) and potentially move BMAC into the rotation and if all this takes is Fields, Freddy can be moved somewhere for young arms. Assuming that Crede is the cornerstone at 3B, this deal makes great sense for the SOx.
  5. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 12:48 PM) I'm asking if you were GM of the White Sox and our 5th starter slot was filled by Felix Diaz or whoever, would you give up someone like Josh Fields for Garcia? I sure wouldn't. As far as the Cards and Mets, their rotation would still be s*** with Freddy. I would in a heartbeat. Freddy has 10 wins this year and a decent WHIP even though his ERA is high. Yes his velocity is down, but Diaz would be an automatic loss every 5 days. The Mets are looking at the prospect of Jose f***ing Lima. You can't tell me Freddy isn't better than that. Big AB for Dye here, let's tie this game back up.
  6. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 12:40 PM) I don't care that they are seeing him pitch, they know the guy has done it and as recently as last year. Plus he's had streaks this year where he was doing it. Teams in the race would f***ing love to pick up a guy like Garcia and see what they could do and they'd give up a fortune. For crap sakes the Drays get an upper echelon catching prospect for Mark Hendrickson and the Angels got a solid outfield prospect with some pop for Jeff Weaver. You guys are kidding yourselves if you don't think we could swing him to a team like the Mets for a top notch pitching prospect and maybe a guy like Heilman. I think you are right. Even looking back to last year at the trading deadline, the rumors that circled around Schmidt were some pretty impresive packages and his velocity was down at that point while he struggled. Teams like the Mets and the Cardinals are in desperate need of starting pitching for the playoff push and they would have to look long and hard at a pitcher like Freddy. Leadoff walk for Pods, let's get this going
  7. At this point I'm almost glad I cant watch the game.
  8. I hate Champaign, we get the Cardinals-Dodgers today on Fox. This sucks.
  9. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=373764&cc=5901 Klinsmann steps down in Germany, dare I hope that he will be the next manager of the US squad?
  10. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 11:51 AM) There will also be value to be had in Big Ben even if he's in decline by the end of his contract. Sam Cassel isn't exactly the best point guard in the league, but look how useful he was for the Clippers this year. Big Ben is exactly what the Bulls needed...a vet who fits in perfectly with Skiles's system, who will work hard, who can kick the ass of some of the kids if they're not working hard, and who can take some of the pressure off of the kids when they're struggling. Even if his skills start to go down hill, he's a veteran with balls, which was one of the big pieces the Bulls were missing last year. Thats exactly right, Ben Wallace is an incredibly hard worker, and that rubs off on other people. Also, expiring contracts are great trade bait, so at the end of the deal, Pax should be able to move Big Ben. I have been a big Tyson supporter on here, but the fact of the matter is that you never knew what you were getting with Tyson. There would be nights where he was just unreal defensively, then there would be the 0 points, 2 rebounds, 0 blocks in 12 minutes nights. With Big Ben, the Bulls will get that effort every night. Also of note, here's hoping Smith can get his s*** together in Chicago. If so, the Bulls could have gotten a gem there as well. That trade reminds me more of Thornton for Borchard because it was a deal of 2 guys with tons of talent that had essentially run out of options on the team that drafted them.
  11. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 07:19 PM) Some good videos of Materazzi's exploits are on Youtube. He's like the AJ of soccer. I dont know about that comparison, AJ may be annoying to other teams, but he isnt dirty. Materazzi is a dirty player. Still an unbelievably dumb move by Zidane and a horrible way to end an amazing career.
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 07:19 AM) Probably because their seats were in the 100 level... Yeah, I know... the first comment should have been in green to portray just how high up the seats I had were, and to reflect my disdain that Krush decided to take the 100 level tickets instead of sitting in the top of the 500 level.
  13. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 06:31 PM) I'm behind the plate after the game today and this lady comes up to me and says "can i take a picture of your jersey?" Somewhat confused, i say sure...Steff says "Are you Brandon's mom?" "Yes" Her and what must have been his aunt take pictures of my jersey, saying it's the first one they've seen, and they were quite impressed. I felt like a celebrity. Brandon's mom was very nice and says she reads here sometimes...she recognized "steff" from the board, which gave us a laugh. She also thought i was her son, which gave us another laugh. Anyway, the McCarthy's were very nice people, kind of cool to meet them in that fashion. I was wearing my BMac jersey Saturday at the game as well... I don't know why Brandon's mom didnt see me at the top of section 531.
  14. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 04:22 PM) Fine, I'll do it myself. France. Heh heh, no one ever says Italy. As far as soccer goes, Italy. An Italy-Portugal final would have disgusted me. Cristiano Ronaldo is such a good player, he does not need to resort to diving as much as he does. Henry and Zidane, good times.
  15. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 04:29 AM) Hypothetically, the Sox are in the World Series right now. Do you want Jon Garland pitching in any of those games? If it's me, I go to Buehrle, Contreras and Garcia only. Sure, Garland had a hell of a post-season last year, but he also had a hell of a regular season. There are such things as one year wonders. Remember Josh Beckett? Right now I agree with you, but this same argument was made last year about Contreras. Also of note, 3 man rotations have struggled in the postseason in recent years, I really think the Sox are going to need Garland or Garcia come October so let's hope Garland continues this upward trend of throwing the ball well.
  16. WHITE SOX WINNER!!! I'm driving back to Chicago now for tomorrow's game, can't wait to hear the callers to the Score on the drive
  17. Bring on the fat man to finish this off.
  18. Dempster looked like he got hit by a truck. That was a f***ing bomb! AJ we love you!!
  19. OOOOOOOOOOOOORIBE!!!! 5 RBI day for Juan and the SOx lead it 6-2
