Official Soxtalk 2006 World Cup Thread
illinilaw08 replied to DePloderer's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
This absolutely sucks. Wonder what would have happened if the US had come out against CR the way they did against Italy, if thecards hadnt mounted up against Italy, and if they dont award the phantom PK against Gooch. Unfortunately, the breaks didnt go the US's way, but hopefully this result will be enough for US soccer to go out and get a creative, attack minded coach. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 10:45 AM) They started playing too late. This should have been their approach all game. Agreed. Arena seemed content trying to play for 1-nil which is fine I guess at the start, but after the Reyna mistake, he needed to adapt, it never happened. US service on set pieces has bee poor all cup. Landon Donovan, please please leave the MLS, come back in 4 years and be a factor like you were 4 years ago. -

The US really needs some type of buildup in the midfield, the long ball long ball long ball s*** is not working. Get the ball into space in the midfield and f***ing run at people. -

Is it possible Arena is still punishing EJ for that "war" comment. If he is, that is absolutely ridiculous, but it is the only explanation I can think of for why your best goal scorer in qualifying is not on the pitch. -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 09:34 AM) WTF is EJ not on this pitch. He has had a good amount of our goals in qualifying. Yet he sits on the bench. Cosign. Arena is acting like a draw gets the US through. -

Claudio Reyna should know better than that. Alright Bruce Arena, we need offense right NOW, you cannot wait to get EJ out there Italy 1-0 -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 09:13 AM) Dips*** Arena with the 4-5-1 again. We need goals and creativity, yet f***nut goes with the conservative formation with only McBride upfront. No EJ. I agree, not an alignment that I like to see. US needs a lot more out of Demsey, Donovan, DMB right now. If EJ isnt a 2nd half sub, i'll be pissed -
QUOTE(THEWOOD @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 10:45 PM) I dont mind High Life, I will drink High Life Light when we go back to my girlfriends hometown...its good stuff and at 1.50 a bottle you cant beat it I'm actually a big fan of the High Life as well, mostly cause it is the cheapest beer in my hometown and thats what I started drinking on.

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 08:00 AM) according to some folks on an illinois board, arrelious benn was on campus yesterday. That's good news for the Illini. I'm cautiously optimistic about Benn, I mean the fact is that Illinois has sold him enough to get into his top 4, beating out tons of other good programs already. Zook is a recruiter, now let's see if he can coach.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 09:26 PM) Lets get Dye out of the game for Mack And AJ for Widge

I would be very surprised if Ozzie retaliates tonight, his guys have been warned, he doesn't want Javy suspended, and even if Montero is in, the last thing the Sox need to do is fire up an opponent after a humilating game the night before. Pretty obvious LaRussa wasnt happy about the whole situation. Now lets see THome make it 20

Hawk is ready to rumble. "If it's me, someone on the Cardinals is going down." Hahaha. Ponson's lack of control is making a blowout even more interesting.

Groundball with eyes for Paulie. 3-1 good guys

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 07:51 PM) Bad AB by Ozuna. I'm surprised he wasn't bunting. GOOCH!! Also suprised Pablo wasn't bunting. And Pittsburgh and KC have to be as much of a joke as Milwaukee (a team that hasnt been awful this year)

Official NBA Playoffs Thread

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 03:20 PM) Wade's play was not a backcourt violation. I didn't think it was then and now there is proof that it wasn't. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs2006...tory?id=2492756 It isn't just the on call, as much as I admire Dwayne Wade, he sells contact better than anyone else in the league and it is frustrating to watch. Yes, I know Michael Jordan got a ton of calls too, but Wade is getting ridiculous. I also agree that Mavs fans do not have too much room for complaint because Dirk was favorably treated throughout the Western Conference playoffs, it is really just a complain about the state of the NBA than about one player in particular. However, Bill Simmons' column today tackles the officiating, and he has some very interesting insights, most notably his observation that the worst officials in the league tend to pop up in controversial games... so why not have the best crews out there every night. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...=simmons/060620 -

Flag burning amendment headed to Senate floor.
illinilaw08 replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in The Filibuster
SB, first off, thanks for the congratulations, first year was brutal, but fortunately it is done (and yes, unfortunately I can attest to I definitely respect your opinion, and I won't pretend to be a constitutional scholar though I did get a little excited to finally be able to apply something from 1L year. I sent my Con Law prof the question and I will report the result if anyone is interested. For the record, I think this amendment is a bad idea, I just would be very surprised if the Supreme Court could overrule it. -
Hamm's Special Light is the worst beer I ever had, though I drank it in tremendous quantity when the liquor store across from my apartment Jr. year of college sold 24 packs of the swill for $6. From the poll though, it's got to be Milwaukee's Best.
