QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 01:20 PM) Personally I would have found someone that could run the KC offense.. The same one that Shea was suppose to bring. Actaully I would have left Shea in there.. Take a look at his talent the giy had to work with, and then the talent he does have goes down with injuries.. No wonder why it failed. Now take Turner offense, he has 100X better talent, and manages a slight upgrade in offense...WTF? Give Turner the roster of 04 offense and see how well he does. Orton is only marginally better than what Shea was working with at the end of the season. And remember, Shea was the reason the Bears went through the Jonathan Quinn experience last year and did not bring in a 3rd QB. The only edge Turner has in talent over Shea is Moose and has been mentioned here quite often, it doesnt matter if you have a better WR if the QB cant get the ball to him. It is far too early to judge Ron Turner as an NFL OC. -

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 12:27 PM) I just want to say, from a former-QBs standpoint, this second Bears drive is by far the best football I have seen Kyle Orton play all season. He has looked like a real quarterback. He's working through his progressions, finding the dump-off recievers, making short passes, throwing balls away, and calling a TO when he sees something he doesn't like. Well done, Kyle. This looks promising. Like I said, this is the best football I've seen him play. Agree 100 %. Maybe all the Grossman talk lit a fire under Orton's ass. In spite of not getting 6 on that drive, points are points. -

Thats a huge first down. The right call by Lovie there, Bears need points on this drive. -

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 10:21 PM) The defense was very good. The offense, however, sucked. Dee has got to start shooting better. He's gotta be shooting like 35% so far. Dee did not shoot the ball all that well tonight it's true, but he is forcing fewer shots early in the possession. I dont know how many of Dee's shots tonight came with the shot clock running out and the rest of the team standing around, but I know it was a rather high number. Dee played well on both ends of the floor low shooting percentage notwithstanding. The other point to make on Dee's shooting is that he has always been a streaky shooter. He will still come around. Also, I have to tip my hat to Rich McBride tonight. The two 3s early in the game were huge and he played absolutely great defense almost all game (only 1 real breakdown that I saw when he got beat on a backdoor). The last point I have to make is that Bruce is always coaching as the game goes on. Especially with Jamar on defense making sure he is in the right position. Jamar's defense will get exponentially better this season with Bruce's coaching. (One of the perks to being in your 5th year at Illinois is that the tickets get way better and I can hear much of what Bruce says). That is all. -
I didnt get to see the game (f***ing finals) but it looks like Pargo played very very well. Nice win for the Bulls without Hinrich and with very little from Tyson.

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 09:51 PM) nice 10 assists tonight for dee as well. Dee played his best all-around game of the year tonight. Didn't take crazy ass off balance threes, distributed the ball well and played his usual solid defense. For the first time all year this team did not just stand around and watch Dee offensively. If the Illini rely so heavily on Dee this year, they will struggle. -
Should Jamar Smith start over Rich McBride?
illinilaw08 replied to maggsmaggs's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I spent most of the game tonight watching Jamar defensively, and he has very quick hands but looks incredibly mechanical defensively. In addition to this, off the ball he isn't great. Offensively he has one of the most fluid releases I've seen at Illinois in a long time, but I don't think he has picked up the motion entirely yet. Of course that's just nitpicking as he really provides a huge spark on offense. After that long intro, I feel McBride should continue to start for now. Jamar provides a tremendous spark off the bench and should continue to do so. As he picks up his defensive skills and the motion, his minutes will go up and Rich will really have to earn his time. A bit of caution though, I remember Rich's freshman year and Luther Head's Jr. year, Rich hit 6 threes vs. Memphis while Luther struggled and I was sure Rich was the guard of the future at Illinois. One more Illinois note, Brian Randle puts some really funny sidespin on his free throws, just thought that looked very awkward, that is all. -
I have been an Orton supporter for much of the year, making excuses for him, "he's a rookie, managing the game well" etc with the only game that I had a real complaint about was the Bengals game. Today however I cannot make excuses for him. This was not managing the game, this was the defense bailing him out over and over again. Now, I am not writing Orton off because rookie QBs do struggle in the NFL, but if the Bears make noise in the postseason it will be in spite of Orton not because of him.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!! This defense is incredible!
-
Short from 43 yards, are you kidding me?!?! One more time defense, let's go!
-
TIllman again! This defense deserves a better offense
-
I hate that toss call on 3rd and 1. Follow the lead of the line and get 1 yard. At least the Bears get 3 more out of it.
-
QUOTE(LDF @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 01:32 PM) now they score, but seriously i haven't been impress with the off. There have been major issues with the offense all year. Orton is just a rookie QB, and there are major issues at 2nd WR and TE. Minus the defense, the Bears are a 3 win team.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! f***ING HUGE PICK

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 12:49 PM) Can we Fire Turner yet? God he is worthless. Is it to late to trade for Shea back? Let's not say things we can't take back. Just remember that Terry Shea brought with him the Jonathan Quinn experience. I'll take Turner over that anyday
-
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 12:46 PM) IF THEY WOULDA JUST RAN IT 3 TIMES IT'D BE 7-0 Why the hell do we throw so much? Anyway, 3-0 Agreed. No reason for the Bears to not just pound the ball when you are that close. The points are huge, but it's very frusturating coming away with 3 when you should have had 7.
