QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 08:13 PM) You're honestly using championships in baseball to show how good a player is? No offense, but that's ridiculous. He's an offensive player, he can only do so much. -I have stated that I believe A-Rod is a great individual HOF Player. -I do not want him on the White Sox -There other players out there that I would rather put money into - and yes some of those players have not won a championship. -A-Rod is a selfish player and I think his presence is bad in a clubhouse. -I don't believe he will be happy until he is on a team like Tampa or Pittsburgh where he can be the lone Superstar and not have the pressure of the media. -There are some fantastic players who have played baseball, but you are always asked about a championship. A player like A-Rod will always be remembered, especially if he does not win a chamionship. All of my opinions on this matter have been stated and I am not posting about this topic anymore. What is the point in arguing about this any further. What I and others say has no influence on the team getting A-Rod. And Kyyle23 - you should try reading some of my posts, before you come after me. I never once said the White Sox should not obtain anyone who has not won a championship - JUST NOT A-ROD.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 08:04 PM) Well Wayne Gretzky was traded, Babe Ruth was sold, Wilt Chamberlain was traded. No offense but the "why are they shopping him?" excuse is a bit ridiculous. A-Rod if moved will be on his 4th team. Do you think the Seattle fans miss him? How about Texas? I will bet that IF moved New York will help pack his bags. Correct me if I am wrong (And I could be), but didnt thos players you listed win Championships?
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 07:55 PM) He certainly hasn't been bad. In all honesty if Juan Uribe had A-Rods numbers in the postseason he would have a great reputation. -BUT- A-Rod makes a lot of money and is supposed to be a franchise player. He is supposed to be one of the best players of all time and he hasn't put up outstanding numbers in the playoffs like he should. Once again If A-Rod is so great and perfect - Why are the Yankees shopping him. I am not trying to be an ass, but I have my own opinions.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 07:49 PM) Is this all you have? Championships? There are 750+ guys every year who dont win a championship, that doesnt mean they cannot win a championship in their career. Roger Clemens waited for over 10 years before he won a championship, that doesnt mean he couldnt do it. What a lame argument. You act as if he is on the last legs of his career. What do you play that game for? You want to win and my all time favorite player Carlton Fisk never won a World Series. He was a great player, but he was not deemed one of the best players of all time. Everyone think A-Rod is a god and the has not won a championship. Could he win one - yes, but he has not won one yet. You claimed I made an incorrect fact, but I did not. A-Rod is great player, but not winner If you want to read his statements or see his stats you are free to go look them up. Are you calling A-Rod a good playoff player?
-
Hey Kyyle23 - Has A-Rod won a chapionship? I guess that would be a correct fact that he hasn't won. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 07:42 PM) Wow, people really are that bored. After all the action late last night - you're right it is boring right now
-
QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 07:18 PM) Ok then in that case we should have never signed/traded for Freddy Garcia, Contreras, Jim Thome, Juan Uribe, AJ Pierzsinky etc since they had never won a ring before coming to us too. Your logic is warped dude. Are all those players you just listed considered to be the best players of our time. You are now comparing all those players to A-Rod. Talk about warped logic. I am done arguing with you DUDE. I have not once said that we should bring in only people that have won. This is about one player and A-Rod would take up a huge part of our budget and become the face of the team.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 07:04 PM) Your opinions are fine, no one around Soxtalk has a problem with opinions. When you start stating them as facts, you get called on it. Immediately. Dont say Arod is a bad teamate unless you have proof. Dont say Arod isnt a winner because he doesnt have a ring. Its pretty simple. No one is trying to change your mind, they are asking you why you think so poorly of someone that you call one of the best individual players of all time. Those would be my opinions. I never once stated them as fact. A-Rod just like Bonds is not a winner IMO because he has not won a championship. Is A-Rod a good player? - yes. Do I enjoy watching him play? - yes. Do I want him in a White Sox uniform? - No. Please do tell me what to say or not to say when it comes to my opinion. If I ever give a false fact or statement I will correct my self and apologize. If people are asking for proof that he is not a good guy in the clubhouse I would then ask for proof that he is a good guy in the club house. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 07:14 PM) When did ARod call out a team mate? If anything, ARod goes about just worrying about getting better and fixing the problems he sees with his play. Define "lead by example". Why do you think ARod does not lead by example. His #s are as good as Jeter except some parts of last year. He called out Jeter this past season in press. Radio, Paper, ESPN all covered it.
-
Listen - We have different opinions and you are not going to change my mind. IMO he is not a team palyer and I am sure I am not the only person on this board that thinks that way. There is a reason why the New York Yankees are shopping one of the best individual players of our time. If he is so good on and off the field - Why are the Yankees shoppping him?
-
QUOTE(WCSox @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 06:34 PM) Jeter lead the Yankees to four championships. A-Rod hasn't. Do you think THAT might have something to do with it? Again, you have yet to produce one concrete example of A-Rod being a bad teammate. Either do so, or zip it. Thank you for stating what my whole argument has been about and what I have been trying to say. A-Rod has not won.
-
QUOTE(WCSox @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 06:32 PM) I think that Jeter actually is a pretty classy guy. I'm sure that he has an ego, but think that it's comparatively small to other superstar pro athletes. The A-Rod bashing is so out of control now that his character and sportsmanship is being called into question. Next thing you know, he'll be a bad-corker and a steroid-user. And then he'll be an adulterer and a cokehead. When will the idiocy stop? I did not start be questioning his personality. He gets paid a lot of money to win and the guy does not win. He has had his chances on some great teams to win and has put up average if not below average stats for a player of his class.
-
QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 06:25 PM) And that does not mean he will never win in the future. Look at the Cowher eg I gave you. It is an example to show you how people (not necessary you) have said stuff about people all the time and linked it to why their teams will never see success only to be proven wrong. Be careful making generalizations about people you have never met. They are wrong 99% of the time. Excellent point. If Jeter was this great, classy guy that everyone seems to think he is, why did he not give up the SS position to the best SS in the game and move to 3B himself? Maybe all Jeter cares about is his own legacy???? Nah......Arod is the one with the ego. Yeah riiiigggghhhtttt..... When has Jeter called out a teammate? Jeter is the ultimate professional and he leads by example. In this big circus that is the Yankee clubhouse how many times do you hear negative news about Jeter
-
QUOTE(WCSox @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 06:20 PM) So, I'll take that as a "no." The Yankees clubhouse was a circus when Giambi and Sheffield were linked to BALCO. It was also a circus when they signed Randy Johnson. As for A-Rod, the media circus had to do with him not playing up to expectations this year, not him being a bad teammate. While I'm not really an A-Rod fan, I have yet to see an example of him being anything other than a professional. He gracefully moved over to 3B when the Yankees traded for him. If that's not being a "team player", I don't know what is. Next time, cite a concrete example when you bad-mouth a player. The clubhouse situation with A-Rod had to do with his teammates not steroids A-Rod making comments about the ultimate team player in Jeter is an example in itself. That is where is started going really bad for A-Rod.
-
QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 06:14 PM) Well done. My thoughts exactly. Amazing how this word "cancer" has become so over-used that it means nothing to me anytime I hear it now. Ridiculous.... It is a reflection of the pathetic media in big cities and the society we live in. Put the blame where it needs to go....and think for your self for a change. Amazing how people as nice as ARod get beat up too. Maybe it would be better if he killed someone or beat up his wife for some of you to focus on other players. No one is questioning how nice of a person he is, but the fact is that he does not win. We all know that winning is everything. "Win or Die Trying!" Sammy Sosa did charity work and always had a smile on his face - Does that make him a nice person or do you know A-Rod personally. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 06:17 PM) So was Kong selfish BEFORE he hit that Grand Slam in the WS???? Wasn't Maggs selfish when he was with us? Didn;t his team just go to the WS? When did I call Maggs selfish?
-
QUOTE(3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 06:08 PM) Damn that Paul Konerko is the most selfish player I've ever seen Did PK hit a Grand Slam in the World Series to help the team win? I am sure A-Rod has done the same thing - right?
-
QUOTE(WCSox @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 06:00 PM) Can you cite an example to back up that statement? Have you been watching the same A-Rod I have been watching. Please tell me why there was such a circus in the Yankee clubhouse surrounding A-Rod and do not give me "It's the Yankees" excuse.
-
QUOTE(TheOcho @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 05:49 PM) He hasn't done bad in the playoffs, his performance is just overblown since he's with the team he is with. And if one player is costing his team the chance to win a ring, well then that team shouldn't be near getting a ring in the first place. If Konerko or Dye had a bad 05 postseason do you think the Sox still would have won. When your major player has a really bad postseason the team usually does not win. Ask Frank Thomas about the 2000 series against the Mariners.
-
QUOTE(Sox It To Em @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 05:33 PM) So before 2006 Chris Widger was better than Albert Pujols? Are you really comapring Widger with the likes of Pujols and A-Rod? Because I never did. The point is that A-Rod is not a team player. He is a great individual HOF player to watch and enjoy. He has a track record of not doing well in the playoffs and has cost his teams the opportunity to win a ring. I think it would be a mistake to bring him in. One again this is my opinion and if he ever does put on a White Sox uniform I will support him and hope they win.

QUOTE(Guillen @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 05:05 PM) Big name players create big rumors. If you're a baseball fan and a fan of a team that potentially could acquire one of the best players in baseball, enjoy it! Does the best player in baseball as you call him have a ring? Mariners - NO Rangers - NO Yankees - NO Please also tell me his career postseason stats. Please forgive me if I do not jump for joy over the constant rumors. I enjoy watching A-Rod play because he is such a great player, but I would not want him on the White Sox. I am a huge baseball fan and one of my favorite times of the year is the hot stove. I just get very tired of seeing a new thread get started everyday on the same old rumors. Especially when the source is a Philly radio station and more likely is just speculation by a Mike North type host.
-
Two players I am so sick of hearing about are Bonds and A-Rod. Enough is enough and I will not believe any rumors about the two of them (they change daily) until any deal is officially anounced.
-
What I do not understand is that they are a club that has to be very careful when it comes to their budget and they go out and sign Meche. I know the exact dollar amount has not been released yet, but we all know the range it will be in. I expect a team that has money, like the Cubs to overspend, but I did not expect it from the Royals. I think this will be a deal you can add to the list of - Come back to bite me in the ass 2006 Free Agent deals.
-
NO NO NO BIG mistake to go after Bonds.

QUOTE(ChiSox9 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 12:11 AM) Ok, so truthfully, how many of you dreaded the fact that you had to go see Freddy pitch last season knowing it would take over 3 1/2 hours to finish the game. Not to mention that fact that when Freddy would look over to check back the runner on 1st he would already be standing on second or third. I can tell you from conversations in my section that Freddy games were the most dreaded last season. Now, bare in mind how many bases were stolen off of Freddy last season. Out of 29 other teams how many of them want a #2-#3 pitcher that makes walks look like doubles? Driving from Rockford to see 25 games a year is hard enough. When Mark would pitch it would be a blessing because I knew that I would get home sometime that night. When Freddy was on the mound I would realize that I was in for a very long night. -

QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 12:08 AM) On ESPN today, they said Bonds is looking for $40 mil over 2 years. That makes me laugh - If he gets two years at 40 million there really is a problem with baseball -

Not even getting into the roids issue.... Barry Bonds is the biggest ****** in baseball. I can not stand his and he is 10 times worse than Belle. -Team Cancer -Injured -As Hawk would say "Where Would He Play?" Left Field - You have to be kidding me. For how many games? - DH? Mr. Bonds meet Mr. Thome. -Talk about clogging up the bases. -Where is Grinder Baseball? -Where did all the speed go? BONDS IS A MISTAKE -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:51 PM) The fact that I'm the calm one really makes me nervous about our fanbase as a whole and how much it's overreacting. I consider myself a calm fan. I trust KW and hate to think negative about the team. I was shocked about the trade, but never to the point of flat out hostility. BUT This article reminds me of the JR duting the white flag trade. I do not like where we are sitting or I don't likethe current market so lets start over again. The article could be smoke or a ploy and I will not believe it until I see it. It still would not surprise me if this all comes true and I will be angry, upset, and dissapointed if this is the case. The White Sox have never been more popular and the last thing I want is "The kids can play".
