  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:34 PM) Well, this article is downright scary. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines If KW isn't bluffing, things are about to get very ugly. So much for extending the deals on our starters. Thank you fathom for taking my anger off this trade and putting it on the whole enitre White Sox organization. This "new" plan is just crazy. It makes the Sox look like whiners insted of grinders. The market is too expensive this year so lets plan on trading our entire starting staff. This is crazy. I am going to have to collect my thought before I can comment more on the Phil Rogers article. Talk about a team that is crying because they will possible have to pay a little more money for pitching now. They win a World Series - Attendence is up - The Sox own the city - And they are going to start all over again. SICK.
  2. What are the odds Gio gets claimed by another team in the rule 5 draft and what happens? If that can evem happen.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:26 PM) After hearing how the Sox watched an hour of tape and decided they could fix some of his flaws, it reminds me of this great saying "Don't worry, Coop can fix him". I am so sick and tired of hearing about Coop. He is good, but he is not God. Where was he with Cotts last year? How about Marte the year before? Why couldn't he get Javy past the 6th inning?
  4. QUOTE(dmbjeff @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:21 PM) why didnt they make this a 3 team deal if they were gonna turn around and trade floyd, gio or whoever else Didn't someone else mention the Gio will not become official as the PTBNL until after the rule 5 draft because he is not on the current 40 man. If this is true they can not flip Gio until the draft is over. Right?
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:15 PM) In some ways, it seemed like KW was in panic mode tonight trying to get a deal done after the Schmidt/Lilly signings. On Comcast before, he said there were several intriguing offers, but this was the one he liked the most. Thats what really worries me. Did he not want to trade with certain teams. Did he not want Freddy to end up with another team in the A.L. If this was the best deal on the table I will be shocked.
  6. The only thing that impresses me about this deal is that we clear 10 million off the books. Now I hope that is put towards good use. The free agent market is a joke right now when it comes to throwing money around, so maybe it goes to Mark or Joe
  7. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 10:45 PM) where did you see this? This gives me some hope ESPN.com "The Chicago White Sox are still open for business," Williams said.
  8. Didn't Ozzie talk to the press about trading starting pitching. He said that A-Rod is the "type" of player that they would want for a starter. Rowand, who he loves was not the "type" of player that they would trade starting pitching for. I believe I saw this on Comcast. I am asking myself - These two minor league players are the "type" of players we get for a starter - What changed? I am hoping that KW's quote about The White Sox are still open for business is his way of telling us to wait out this B.S.
  9. I don't even want to think about Bonds.....That would make me puke more than this deal already has. There better be something else coming...It will be interesting to see how the press deals with this trade. Will they give Kenny a pass and trust him or will they say- Whats up with this?
  10. I am going to be calm and wait to see if there is another move coming. If not - This is worse than the Kip Wells to Pittsburgh trade. I would love to be in the meeting where everyone on Kenny's team found out this is all they could get for Freddy. This makes me sick.
  11. J.D. Drew to the Red Sox - 5 Year Deal per ESPNEWS
  12. I agree - A-Rod and is not going to demand a trade and the Yankees are not going to come out and say that he is available. They are trying to avaoid a circus. It is like Williams saying he is not going to trade one of his pitchers, when more than likely he is. Why make statements that can come back a bite you. What happens if statements are made and the Yankees keep A-Rod and Williams can not find a deal that he likes and we have the same rotation as last year. Players, fans, the press get upset and relationships go bad.
  13. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 01:25 PM) Man, remember when Garland's extension was considered to be overpaying? Garland had a lot of upside at the time of the extension. Padilla was almost a non-tender player by the Phillies last year. Look at the Carpenter deal in this market and compare him to Padilla. Carpenter only worth 2 million more a year than Padilla?
  14. Great News to hear. It is nice to hear about a player that really understands what it takes to play well and play for a long time. You read about the workouts Clemens puts himself through each winter and it really does pay off.
  15. Just when I thought the Rangers were going to stop making dumb moves. This current market makes me sick and I am going to enjoy watching some of these teams regret spending this kind of money. The name Russ Ortiz comes to mind instantly.
  16. Nice to have Pablo back for 2007. He is a great bench player and keeps speed on the bases.
  17. QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 12:47 PM) The one thing that bothers me about this speculation is that no national writer or reported has mentioned this today. I've looked at a Yankee forum and the only mention they have of it is someone relaying to them what is being reported here. Is this just more BS reported by Levine because he doesn't know what the heck is going on? Or does he have some actual valid sources? This is a huge story, and the lid would be blowing off of it were the national writers to get a hold of it. Yet they are saying nothing or even reporting that Cashman is "sitting out" the action thus far. What gives? You could look at it this way - Maybe this deal really is flying under the radar because it is not being picked up by everyone. There are a number of deals that get done and the big boys (ESPN, FOX, SI...) do not pick up on them until they are announced. I would think a deal of this size would be reported asap. Then again it could just be garbage. I am not a big fan of Bruce, but he has been known to be right sometimes.
  18. The only negative I have ever heard about BA is that he likes to party. He would be out late drinking and having a good time until 3 or 4 in the morning with his "hunnies". I mean the kid is just enjoying his youth, but baseball and the team have to come first. Frineds of mine would spot him out real late with a game the following day. I also heard this from a friend that works in the Sox front office. Take it for what it is.
  19. My family has been season ticket holders since 1991. I have followed the team since I was in grade school and I drive from Rockford to get to each game. I am fortunate enough to catch 15-20 games a year and was sitting in Comiskey for the "Kids Can Play" era. I do not really care about fair weather fans because I know that I have been a fan for some time and winning always brings new fans to a team. My biggest complaint about fans happened at SoxFest this year. A lady got to the mic and b****ed about not getting playoff tickets last year. She was NOT a season ticket holder and said that the true fans deserved the tickets. I agreed with her up to that point, but when she had the guts to tell the crowd in an upset voice, "I have been a White Sox fan since 2001!" she went over the line. Brooks was even trying not to laugh. Fair weather fans are part of all sports and are not going anywhere. I do not have a problem with them and I welcome them. Just please do not act like you are entitled to something - I waited a long time for last year and some people waited a lot longer than me.
  20. I am not able to watch the game because of WCIU and I have not been paying attention, but am I reading the box score right? Alomar with 2 RBI? What a great game - I hate WCIU
  21. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 09:13 PM) But he was very young when he was a starter. A little maturity, adding another pitch, plus the fact that right handed hitters have a tough time against him usually, I think he will be a very good back of the rotation starter in the future. Next year may be pushing it, but I really believe he will be in some team's rotation in the next few seasons if he remains healthy. Teams realize what an asset he is out of the pen and why screw up a good thing. If someone were to give him a shot at starting I believe it would not be the Sox. If Neal hits a rough patch and goes to a team like the Pirates or D-Rays, then yes I see a team giving him a shot to start.
  22. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 09:04 PM) I think Cotts will definitely be a starter some day. Thornton, I am not sure about, but he came up as a starter. He started a game against the White Sox that I attended, and couldn't throw a strike to save his life. Dick I tend to agree with you on most thing, but we have been there and tried that with Cotts. He needs at least one more pitch and I just don't believe he has the capacity of pitching over 200 innings.
  23. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 03:14 PM) Did you say the same thing last year when all we did was get Blum? And again when Cleveland was catching us? THE SKY IS FALLING, THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!!!!!! You have to stop talking about last year. This is a different team. We are 8.5 games back in our own division. We have to compete with three other teams for one WC spot. Look at the starters ERA this year compared to last. This is a different team and they are in trouble. I will come out and admit that I am wrong when/if the time comes that this club makes the playoffs, but I do not see that happening. Sorry.
  24. I am so happy that tonights game is on WCIU and I can't watch it. I do not want to listen to all the BS Hawk is going to say
