  1. Gave it a 6. Still lingering concerns on the position player side preventing a higher rating. We need to continue building through trades and more importantly the draft. Hit on some of our top picks.
  2. I'm not really buying that Avi is this good either, but at this point, he's a safer bet and more likely to pan out than a lot of prospects out there. I'd hold him unless we get a pretty strong offer. If it's all a mirage, so be it.
  3. I can't imagine any team taking on all the trouble that would come with drafting the guy. Even in a best case scenario where he proves to be an MLB talent, what do you do then? Call him up only to spark even more attention to it? This certainly wouldn't be the first time when having something like this on your record was a job killer.
  4. Figuring out where the draft "fell off" is pretty subjective, to say the least. Sox grabbed two power guys (with low strikeout rates). Sort of a continuation of last year with Collins (except the strikeouts). Interesting shift away from Kenny's toolsy types.
  5. It would be pretty weird to feature Abreu in the pitch to Robert and then trade him right away. I agree with everyone else that it makes sense to hold on to him for a while. I imagine the team might even have some broader marketing plans around Abreu/Moncada/Robert, perhaps like Seattle capitalized on Ichiro.
  6. International and the draft. The jury is still out on the latter as well, especially position players (e.g., I don't know if Happ was ever on our radar, but it's already pretty painful to see that the Cubs got him a spot after we took Fulmer).
  7. Interesting choice. I believe Thames does have an option year with a fourth year of control, to the extent that matters. Thames' video game numbers in Korea combined with the hot start are certainly tempting.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 22, 2017 -> 04:11 PM) Makes sense, but do you understand my point? Lot of guys are getting their first call up at 25 and fans are drooling over their arrival in the bigs. Avi is off to a good start in his year 25 season. I get it, but after several years of frustration, it's not crazy to want to see a little more out of a guy like Avi compared to someone who comes up and looks like a potential superstar early on. It also is a little bit of a red flag to me that it took a professional athlete several years of MLB experience to realize he had to get in better shape. Hopefully he's locked in now though. Better late than never.
  9. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ May 22, 2017 -> 02:55 PM) We have a ton of arms. If you can't get Robles unless you include Burdi with Robertson, you do that all day long. Between Fulmer, Giolito, Kopech, Hansen and Lopez, at least one of those guys is probably going to end up in the pen, and likely as a closer. If Burdi gets you one of the best position player prospects in the game along w Robertson, that is exactly the type of trade the Sox should be looking at, considering the arms they have in their system. Sox would do that trade in a heartbeat. WAS wouldn't.
  10. Apologies if I missed it, but any word on when he'd actually report?
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 22, 2017 -> 03:30 PM) This is all cliche sports fan stuff. He's only 25. But the fact he's been learning in the bigs makes him a known flop in most eyes. Had he been in the minors all this time with the name Avi Garcia and come up to the bigs this year and been doing this, we'd be immortalizing him. Some of his hits this year, like that last hit in his four hit game that just kept rolling and rolling all the way to the wall because it was such a rope, would be legendary. He's been around so long he's not the second string quarterback but a known commodity. Look, face it. He's a 25 year old budding star. Now he could flop, but right now he should be given the same hype as if he'd just come up after a LONG building process in the minors. The guy had 400 games and 1,400 at bats under his belt before this season, all for a combined 0.1 WAR. That's after 2,300 at bats in the minors. He was a year or two away from being non-tendered. Glad he's shown some signs of life, but he still has to prove the consistency.
  12. I don't really see Burdi moving the needle on getting WAS to part with a top 10 prospect.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 22, 2017 -> 11:05 AM) Was this a joke? You don't know your White Sox at all. Sorry man, at some point, the slow start to his career speaks for itself - whether it's an issue of effort, focus, training, or whatever else. He lost weight and got into better shape this year. I'd keep him motivated as long as I could. The pressure of not having many more chances left seems to be working at this point. I'd be reluctant to change anything, for at least another year.
  14. I'd keep Avi playing for his next contract for as long as humanly possible. He seems like the type to mail it in once he gets a big deal.
  15. This Yolmer guy is way better than Carlos....
  16. I'm conflicted. I want to lose a bunch of games, but I also obviously want to see some vets do well to boost their trade value (e.g., Frazier, Robertson, Abreu) and see some young guys continue to get better. Hopefully the vets do well early, we can ship them out, and then really start the sucking....
  17. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 29, 2017 -> 10:32 AM) This. I think you're just asking for an injury if you try to convert him now. Between Louisville and the minors, he pitched around 45 innings in 2016. He pitched 29 in 2015. 10 in 2014. He has reliever written all over him, which the Sox certainly knew when we drafted him.
  18. No chance. He hasn't started a game since high school.
  19. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 12:08 AM) http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/zeise-i...version=pgevoke Pittsburgh writer suggests Quintana for Glasnow, Keller, & Bell. Would you guys take that deal if offered or wait for something better? I'm torn here because it's obviously a ton of talent, but I hate that the one positional prospect we'd be getting is more of a 1B/DH type. It's a fair deal, but like others, I'm not sure another deal centered on pitching prospects is the way to go.
  20. I'm guessing closer to the deadline. Apart from maybe the Yankees, the trading partners we're talking about still aren't that needy/motivated right now. I suspect it will take either injuries and uncertainty for a contender or perhaps a team like Atlanta or Colorado getting off to a surprise good start to really get someone motivated.
  21. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 02:44 PM) Why can't the blue print for a trade look similar to the Sale deal? What did we get, 2 A's, a B, and a C? If we end up pulling the trigger on an A and 3 B's, I wouldn't be upset. I still think that's a reasonable blueprint. It's just that with Q's lack of true star power (e.g., potential postseason ace), the A's might be top 25-50 prospects instead of the #1 overall prospect like Sale netted.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 08:28 PM) There it is. Now if I hear Kenny is going to see the kid personally, I may start to reevaluate my position. There is exactly a zero chance of the White Sox going into a penalty phase if Kenny hasn't even seen the kid yet. He is the final scout in this management structure. In fairness, he's probably not going to be cleared for at least a few months (even if it's pre-July 2), right? Plenty of time for the Sox or anyone else to do some more Scouting.
  23. Good news for BOS, but this seems like it could be a recurring problem.
  24. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 08:16 AM) I would prefer the Sox not do a big trade with the Red Sox. We would have an overload of prospects from one farm system. How do the stock market guys put it when there's a lack of diversification - systematic risk or something like that? I'd rather pick through a different farm system. And I know that each individual prospect is individual evaluated. Still they have the same training the same development regimens- a little diversification would spread the risk, imo. Boston does seem to have a pretty good track record of top prospects panning out though.
  25. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 01:33 PM) I would probably take Devers and their 4 next best prospects. Probably a pipe dream, but I'd do it. I don't know about that. Devers and Groome are each top 20ish prospects. That's a pretty solid base right there, with a couple lesser pieces added in.
