  1. If Boston won't include Moncada and Benintendi for Sale, I'd try to work a deal for Q with Benintendi as the centerpiece, along with a few of their other top guys.
  2. Surprised the Sox haven't at least made a smaller deal or two at this point. There's been plenty of action. On that note, the Yankees suddenly have all sorts of prospects to deal.
  3. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 03:09 PM) Even if Boston was willing to do Betts straight up for Sale (and I don't think they would), it still doesn't make sense for this team. All you're doing is filling one hole and creating another, and it's not like there's a bunch of SP prospects banging on the door in our farm. It's completely pointless. If Sale is traded you need to fill multiple holes, not just one. I don't disagree, but then you're basically betting that the multiple unknown quantities you're getting will turn out better, in total, than the known quantity. Obviously a risk game. And you'd be trusting that to this organization. Just saying.
  4. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 04:04 PM) Kaplan brought up something on the radio this afternoon I laughed at, but I'm still thinking about it 2 hours later, which I'm not sure what that means.. Tom Ricketts calls up Reinsdorf and says "Listen, a World Series is vital to us this year, and we think Sale is the final piece. We just signed Theo to an 8 year deal, but we'll trade you the contract of Theo and his staff for Chris Sale." I honestly didn't know what to think. If they throw in Maddon, I'd take it.
  5. Can't see the Cubs doing that deal. As far as the postseason rotation, Q isn't even that big of an upgrade for them over what they already have.
  6. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 01:04 AM) Here's a crazy a f*** idea: Boston gets Sale, Melky, and Robertson White Sox get Betts, Moncada, Benintendi, Rodriguez, Devers, Kopech, Travis, and Owens As you can see... Monday needs to get here so my sanity can return. No chance. Betts for Sale would be a wash, give or take. They're not giving away the farm for Melky and Robertson.
  7. Really no reason to trade either unless the right deal comes along. As long as they're healthy, they'll each still have tons of value in the offseason or a year from now. Unless a trade partner throws in some proven MLB talent, I'm not convinced anyone will be offering fair value for 3.5 years of Sale or 4.5 years of Q.
  8. QUOTE (HeGone7 @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 04:02 PM) I also think this brings up a good point, why are the Sox, if they are, limiting themselves to contenders for Sale/Q? Because of their unique contract situations, this should be something they're shopping everywhere. If any non-contender picked up the phone, they'd certainly listen like they would with anyone else. All depends on what they're offering.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 11:45 AM) 2 months plus post-season plus hgher probability of keeping him in 2017 if he fits in well Yeah, I get that, and whoever gets Sale is getting up to 4 post-season runs out of him plus the possibility of longer.
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 10:46 AM) It would take at least 5 top prospects, and two of those would have to be no doubter MLB impact players. Is that even enough? Cubs just gave up a top 25 and top 75 prospect for .5 years of Chapman. If the Sox trade Sale now (3.5 years of control) as opposed to say a year from now (with 2.5 years), when he'd still yield a huge package (assuming he's healthy, etc.), are they really getting extra value? Seems like there might be some diminishing returns built in there. Too bad we can't trade a year of Sale to 3-4 different teams....
  11. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 09:52 AM) After seeing the possible Chapman deal, there's no reason Sale + Robertson shouldn't net a monstrous package from Dombrowski of all people. If that's the package for a .5 year of Chapman, it makes me skeptical that we can get full value for 3.5 years of Sale.
  12. Can't help if we look eager to trade him.
  13. Sox should do a 1976 Sale jersey promotion.
  14. Not sold on Gallo. Hope we swing a deal with Boston or Houston.
  15. I'd shop both and see what kind of offers I get, but my inclination would be to keep Sale and trade Q for a couple young everyday guys who could contribute by 2017. If nothing else, keeping Sale doesn't crater attendance. The other thing would be to keep both for a try in 2017 but then do a rebuild if that doesn't work out. Provided they stay healthy, they'll each have plenty of value a year from now.
  16. It would be crazy to still be in buy mode at this point, unless we're acquiring guys under contract for next year as well.
  17. I wouldn't trade Sale unless I was blown away, but Bregman would be a nice start. Keith Law has him at #1 in his mid-season top prospects. He's been raking. If he were in the Sox org, he'd almost certainly be in the majors by now.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 05:31 PM) The point is that every GM in baseball is capable of doing the same thing. Not just Rick Hahn. You're telling me that Hahn would have gotten all those "deals" with Indians players for a 33% discount? In fact, the Indians are in much better shape with these types of contracts, and avoided the trap of taking a Boras client who will never in a million years sign an extension and lose a free agent year. Sure, every GM is capable, but how many teams have a bunch of young guys locked in to favorable deals? Some do, some don't. Highlighting another that does doesn't really prove anything. Hahn has his strengths and weaknesses, but I'm not sure you can just write off this aspect that appears to be a strength.
  19. They'd be dumb to not at least listen to offers. On Quintana too.
  20. I don't know if Robin is to blame for this slide, but I still can't figure out where he adds value either. If the players like him, great, but plenty of employees would love to have a lax boss. That doesn't mean it's good for the organization though, especially when the employees aren't performing.
  21. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 04:50 PM) Ok I'll bump it for you later in the year. You'll be nowhere to be found though. That fringe starter has 8 quality starts on the year (Sale and Quintana have 9 each).
  22. If we fall out of contention in the next two months, it's a legit question. We're not out of contention. It would take a big haul though, since I assume we plan to contend next year as well.
  23. Any automated system would have to take into account the height of the batter, right? Probably not terribly difficult, but does the current technology do that?
  24. Right. The season ticket base is low. Keep winning and we'll get some nice crowds over the summer. Go on a playoff run and we'll boost the season ticket base for next year.
  25. Regardless of how anyone felt about LaRoche's kid, it sounds like they're upset with the principle of KW meddling instead of just working it out in the clubhouse.
