  1. If players have that little discipline on their own, you’re in trouble regardless. The manager hire wouldn’t have mattered. Signing Harper is maybe something that could have mattered, especially if it incentivized Reinsdorf to make some other moves too.
  2. Just let Ozzie do it. Might be moderately entertaining at least.
  3. Hopefully Vargas and/or one of the lotto tickets pays off, but the trade feels pretty light. I'd feel a lot better about it if we had a couple intriguing prospects coming from STL too, even if they weren't top tier guys.
  4. I'd get it if Edman was healthy and putting up a 3-4 WAR season but this is just bizarre.
  5. Then we’re doomed regardless. But I like Walker’s upside.
  6. Spencer Jones seems underwhelming. Probably not a coincidence that NYY are suddenly willing to include him when he’s been struggling at AA this year.
  7. Holy cow, somehow didn’t realize Senzel has been so bad. Maybe Getz didn’t either…
  8. Sure helps that Baltimore still has a bunch in the pipeline, including the #1 prospect in baseball.
  9. Yeah, it's obviously early on the rest but 2019-20 were total busts after the first rounds. That's coloring things a bit.
  10. Shirley seems like an improvement and has a good knack for spotting first round talent, but we still have a ways to go from a depth standpoint. Need to hit on a few later picks too. 2019 - pretty sparse after Vaughn, Thomas and Dahlquist have struggled 2020 - pretty sparse after Crochet, Kelley has struggled 2021 - pretty sparse after Montgomery though it's obviously early 2022 - after Schultz, you have Cannon and not much else at this point though it's early 2023 - after Gonzalez, it's obviously early, but hopefully Taylor develops
  11. No one said that. Jac is one guy. We need multiples. We need several years of strong position player draftees at this point. For each, you're likely looking at a couple years before they're MLB ready, and another year or two to get some MLB experience under their belt. (Not many playoff teams led by rookies.) Best hope is to use a Robert, Crochet, and/or Fedde trade to jump start that some.
  12. Never said that. Jac is one guy. Need a lot more than that, even if they're not all "stars."
  13. Bingo. Honestly not seeing how we build a playoff quality line up in the next five years. Even if we go heavy on position players in the next several drafts, by the time they get up to MLB and contribute, that’s 5+ years off. We’d otherwise need a big name free agent or two to build around, and Colson to really pan out, but we all know they’re not going to spend the money on that.
  14. We’re totally bringing him back aren’t we.
  15. We’re actually not all that far off from having an intriguing rotation if we held onto Crochet and Fedde and Thorpe keeps dealing. Problem is we’re so far away from having a competitive every day lineup. Need a lot more than Robert and I’m not sure where it’s going to come from any time soon.
  16. What’s he supposed to say — obviously wants to play more.
  17. It would be more entertaining at least, which at this point, sounds pretty good.
  18. Schriffen is a clown and a huge dropoff from Benetti but yikes, what a hard first season to walk into. If you've been around for a while you can call it straight with some credibility. But first year on the job, trying to please your bosses and the fans, it's a no-win.
  19. "After Jerry sells the team" should be an option. Seriously, it's hard to see when we're going to break through. I like some of our pitching prospects, but on the position side, outside of Montgomery, how are we going to fill out an MLB-level, playoff contending lineup? And it's not like we're going to go out and sign some big name free agents.
  20. Lol, nothing will cause Jerry to realize he’s incompetent.
  21. I’m struggling to see a scenario where we’re competitive only a year from now in ‘25. Even ‘26 is wishful thinking IMO. We have some decent enough pieces in the minors but it’s not like we have a bunch of elite prospects in the pipeline. This isn’t like the last rebuild where you could look at Eloy, Robert, Moncada, etc. and have a basis to think we’d be pretty good in a few years.
