  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 24, 2010 -> 07:58 AM) The Indians are without Sizemore and Cabrera. If we can't take 2 of 3 in this series, with D1, Peavy, and Buehrle on the mound, there's something seriously wrong. Sadly, 2/3 doesn't even do all that much, especially with 4 @TB next. If we're going to make any noise, this is really a series we need to sweep.
  2. Standing O for sure. He's only booed in CLE because he chose to leave for more money in free agency. That's not the case here, and even if it was, I'd like to think SOX fans are more appreciative than CLE fans.
  3. Spring Training doesn't always mean much, but all things being equal, I'd sure rather have a guy go into Opening Day on a hot streak as opposed to a cold streak.
  4. Porcello is 21 years old. He's extremely young. It seems reasonable to expect some improvement from last year's peripherals. But I'm not sure how any projection really accounts for that. The only data on Porcello is his 20-year-old rookie season, and after that, there can't be a whole lot of data on how such a young pitcher typically progresses in his second year. It's a crap shoot, if you ask me.
  5. I got all 3 Cubs/Sox games through the pre-sale. Sure, it's a little pricey, but it was pretty easy getting tickets and it's a lot cheaper than going through a scalper. There's probably still some tickets left.
  6. QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Dec 28, 2009 -> 04:47 PM) Carter vs. Quentin is a good argument, IMO. It's a good argument in a year if Quentin struggles with injuries again and Carter has a solid major-league debut. Until then, it's a pretty silly question. And as far as whether it was a good trade, it's not just about "right now and in the future." Without that trade, we're almost certainly not 2008 AL Central champs.
  7. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Dec 21, 2009 -> 10:40 AM) #3 (The terrible reason) When the news of Rios’ being claimed by the White Sox first leaked, Scott Podsednik was smack dab in the midst of picking up a clutch hit every time he walked into the batter’s box. I wondered if Kenny found himself in a situation where he felt he wouldn’t have any choice but to resign Pods this offseason, and realized that he would need to find a CF that had some pop to make up for starting a horrible defensive corner outfielder, that slapped at the ball like a grandma in a wiffle ball game. Well if this was the plan, it sure seems to have backfired; because Williams is going to upset the average fan by not bringing back their favorite grinder; and in turn Kenny has replaced Podsednik with a faster, healthier, and slightly better anti-grinder in Juan Pierre. Juan Pierre is definitely an upgrade both offensively and defensively in left field, but his acquisition certainly does not help shed any light on why Alex Rios and his sixty million came to US Cellular Field. (1) Seems to be a bit of a stretch for the supposed "plan." Of course Kenny had a choice whether to resign Pods, and he elected not to. (2) If you're right, and Pierre is "an upgrade both offensively and defensively in left field" over Pods, how is that a backfire?
  8. Kenny is building a deep, veteran team this offseason, probably because so many of the unproven guys on our 2009 opening day roster were non-contributors as the season played out. I think Kenny is one deal away from having a very nice offseason.
  9. If the Dodgers are paying half his salary, I imagine we gave up something of decent value.
  10. The $$$ makes a Quentin for Crawford swap pretty difficult. Now, if the Sox add in Jenks, and the Rays add in some young cheap talent, it might start to make some more sense.
  11. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 09:56 AM) This is a tough one because they're were a lot of good offensive players in his day that will be competing against him for the Hall. Answer this with your head, not your heart. You're a few years too late with this poll. Fill a room with all the "good offensive players in his day that will be competing against him for the Hall." Then ask the ones linked to PEDs to leave, as none of them will be elected to the hall any time soon. The room isn't very crowded after that. I think the HOF has room for both Thomas and Griffey.
  12. Some people are reacting as if we're giving Vizquel $5-10M and handing him the starting SS position. This move just gives us a cheap and experienced bench player and won't take away from any other efforts. And it sure puts us in a better position than we were at the start of last year, when just about our entire bench and parts of our starting lineup had no business being on a major league roster.
  13. The fact that there are "talks" is encouraging but not all that surprising. The Pads want to shop Gonzalez, so I'm sure they're in "talks" with quite a few teams. KW wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't at least pick up the phone. We'll see how far it advances.
  14. QUOTE (striker62704 @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 11:00 AM) Wow, fun start to the offseason. You'd think the offseason was just a week this year. Everyone is working fast. I'm wondering if people are trading quicker do to budget limits and a poor free agent class. I'm guessing these trades were worked out in the past week or two but are just being announced now that the world series is over, hence the sudden influx. As for this trade, I'm glad to see Gomez gone.
  15. QUOTE (whitesox901 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 02:16 AM) Would you trade Hudson and Torres straight up? If anyone thinks this is even close to enough for Gonzalez you're crazy. The Padres would laugh and hang up if Kenny proposed this. For the Sox to have any chance, they'd have to build a deal around either Beckham or perhaps Danks or Floyd. Then maybe add in Hudson and a few other prospects.
  16. QUOTE (League @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 11:31 AM) I think this makes the infield: Teahen, Ramirez, Beckham, Konerko, not the outfield: Q!, Rios, Teahen. Bingo.
  17. I think Teahen ends up at 3B, with Beckham moving to 2B.
  18. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 04:11 PM) Priority #1 this offseason: dump Tyler Flowers. I hear Vazquez might be available...
  19. This would not be like the Twins at all, but: (1) new ballpark to fill, and (2) need to impress Mauer given his upcoming free agency, and (3) take a shot for a year with Mauer, Morneau, and Ramirez at the center of the lineup.
  20. QUOTE (striker62704 @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 12:27 PM) Just curious, would anyone trade Danks or Floyd straight up? For Gonzalez, in a heartbeat. He's cheap and a star who could play every day. It would take more than that though. And if we're just looking at prospects, we don't have the prospects to acquire Gonzalez. San Diego, presumably, already got a bunch of the guys they wanted from us for Peavy. I don't see how we could top the Red Sox offer. It would take Beckham and then some.
  21. Neimann gets my vote. He's also the tallest. B)
  22. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Oct 17, 2009 -> 12:26 PM) OK, here is my 2 cents and I have not posted in a while. What about offering the Padres a package of cheap talent headed by Hudson/Viciedo and their choice of maybe 3 other AA/AAA prospects to table a discussion for AGon? I know this is not reality but just say they are so hard up to dump his salary and completely retool the franchise. I really don´t want to touch our startin 4 as we have given them 4 good pitchers already for Peavy. Which brings me to my last point. Could Peavy and Linebrink sell Chicago to Agon? Awright flame away!!!!! He would definitely solve our lefty power bat with high OBP. (1) AGon doesn't have a big salary for the Padres to dump, he's cheap and good, (2) the Padres already turned down a deal from the Red Sox (reportedly) that was a lot better than anything we could offer.
  23. I'm not sure if the 5:1 ratio is correct but your numbers are probably in the ballpark. The parking is definitely a source of revenue for the team, no question (take that Wrigley!).
