  1. Why on earth would the Sox want to "shake things up" by trading the guy they just went to great lengths to acquire (Peavy) for an overpaid headcase (Zambrano)? I'm sure the Cubs would do that swap in a heartbeat. But it isn't happening.
  2. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 01:39 AM) Mark my words, Pena will have a comeback year. I'll put some weird ass s*** in my signature if he doesn't. Somebody can decide what I put there if he doesn't. You already have weird ass s*** in your signature.
  3. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 24, 2009 -> 10:07 AM) He might get even more than $15. Not every owner or fan thinks using the "Sox wallet" as a measurement of a player's value. A few years ago, maybe. Not today.
  4. Buerhle's trade value is pretty minimal. Certainly no where close to enough to bring back a cheap young stud. He wouldn't command $15 million / year on the open market, and that's what a new club would have to pay him.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 11:55 AM) RBI's in those months: 6 and 9. 15 RBI's with 5 HR. Dont tell me how you hit, tell me when you hit. I'd like SOMEONE to point out where I said the guy doesnt hit. I said the guy doesnt knock in runs. AJ is hitting just .239 with runners in scoring position. Still, it doesn't help his RBI total either that he spent most of the year batting behind guys that could barely score from 3rd on a single. Knocking in Konerko and Thome has it's own challenges and is a little tougher than knocking in Pods and Beckham.
  6. If the Sox wanted to trade Linebrink, I'd much rather see them pick up some of his salary to make a trade viable as opposed to taking on another team's headache in return.
  7. The Sox still have a chance but it's a long shot. They need to knock a few games off Detroit's lead over the next few weeks. Say they can get within 4 games. Then you have to hope for 5-1 against Detroit. Unlikely, but if they play well and get hot, it can certainly happen.
  8. QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 10:13 AM) IMO the Thome trade wasn't for us... it was for him. Nobody trades a productive player + cash for a 26 year old A-ball scrub because it's good for the ballclub. It was a class move by Kenny to give a future Hall-of-Famer at the end of his career a chance at a ring. Period. I buy it. The Thome trade didn't give us any salary relief. And it didn't bring back anyone remotely likely to make the majors. So there really wasn't much benefit, other than freeing up some AB's for younger guys. Maybe they have a handshake deal for bringing Thome back next year. That's about all I can think of.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 12:47 AM) Except that the reports are indicating that the Sox are getting cash from the Rockies. Why would the Rockies take on Jose's contract AND send the Sox some cash? It doesn't make much sense. The cash, I'm sure, is going to the Rockies to pay Jose's contract.
  10. We've lost so many games we should have won, so I figured we'd pull out a win in this one...
  11. If he's able to throw 80-90+ pitches in AAA he can throw 80-90+ pitches in the majors. The mound is the same distance to home plate, I believe. Even if he's not completely in a groove yet, he's still probably better than our alternatives at that point.
  12. The Cubs are only 4 games out of the Wild Card, but they also have 4 teams to pass for it (Colorado, San Francisco, Florida, and Atlanta). That makes it tough, and probably about just as likely as they catch St. Louis.
  13. With our payroll and the level of competition in the AL central this year, we should have a better record than we do. It's certainly fair if you want to point out that we're 2nd in payroll in the division and in 2nd place, but this team should be more than just a few games over .500.
  14. QUOTE (kev211 @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 11:33 PM) Guys who cares about road attendance? We've yet to play in Boston, or New York and we play in the AL central where KC, Det, Minny, and Cleveland don't draw that well. Bingo. The Sox don't exactly have a huge road following or anything, but we're as low as we are due to factors well beyond our control (is it any surprise a team like Baltimore is ahead of us, for example, when they get to play 3 road series a piece at NY and BOS, while we're at KC and CLE?).
  15. QUOTE (letsgoarow @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 04:42 PM) That Sucks, i was hoping to see him play tonight on WGN. This is the only game off i have because the biscuits play 10 games in 11 nights I was in Montgomery a bunch for work two summers ago and went to a lot of Biscuits games. Good times. Got to see Longoria go against Justin Upton one game.
  16. I like it for this year and beyond. Pick 4 out of Pods, Rios, Dye, Quentin, and Thome to play every night. Give the 5th a day off based on match-ups, etc. If you have, say, 6 games a week, those 5 guys are splitting 24 starts, and still get 4.8 each on average. So you can give each of them a day off a week, while not having the offensive drop off of playing Wise. After this year, I still think there's a spot for Dye as DH, and hope they resign him.
  17. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 04:18 PM) Yeah you've got right. The waiver stuff is always kept under wraps a lot better because it all involves MLB players and GM's can do their own video scouting and make their own decisions, so you don't have like a thousand scouts involved and then reporters all following those guys around looking for information. And you don't get all the BS rumors this time of year either, and on and on. Plus the waiver wire is always flooded with players. So even though one source says only one claim was made, or at least insinuates that only one claim was made, there could have been a bunch. The number of teams that claim a player and the identity of those teams is really irrelevant though since only the team that is awarded the claim matters. Does the team with the "winning" claim find out how many other teams put in claims for the player? Even though that team has the sole shot at working out a trade, I can see it affecting the negotiations. With Rios, for example, the Blue Jays could ask for a lot more in trade, I imagine, if 8 teams put in a waiver claim versus 1 (i.e. "we know that a lot of teams were interested, so we may wait until the offseason to trade him if we can't agree on a deal").
  18. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 04:09 PM) Any team can make a claim. The claim is then awarded to the team that is highest on the list. Rios may have been claimed by 3-4 teams for all we know, but unless the team that is awarded the player makes a deal within the alloted time period (think it's like 24-48 hours or so) the player cannot be traded to any other team, even if other teams also make claims. That's exactly how I understood it. So, if only one team put in a claim for Rios (if that is true, who knows), then you can say that only one team wants him. Everyone, I thought, has a chance to put in a claim.
  19. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 04:00 PM) A lot of people in the MLBtraderumor comment section think it's us. I'd be shocked if Kenny was able to take on Rios and his contract after acquiring Peavy.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 03:47 PM) That's not what it means. Teams are able to put in waiver claims based on order of record. If the Washington Nationals wanted to put in a waiver claim on him, they'd have every shot to do so, and no other team would have the chance. Do they actually go one at a time (from worst to best), then stop once a team puts in a claim? I thought every team has an opportunity to put in a claim, and then when the process is over, you look to see who "wins, e.g., who has the worst record among the claiming teams.
  21. QUOTE (GO CHI SOX! @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 03:13 PM) If the Blue Jays are gonna give him away, the White Sox should trade for him for this playoff run and trade him in the offseason, to the Giants maybe, for a better package then what we would give up for him in the first place. His trade value is minimal, at best. If only one team put in a waiver claim for him, that basically means only one team would even take him (and his contract) for free.
  22. I'd be shocked if this was the White Sox. Without Peavy, maybe. But after taking on Peavy's contract, no way Kenny can take on Rios.
  23. No doubt cost is a big factor. There are others as well. If there's an 8,000 person difference between Game 1 of the Dodger series and Game 1 of the Angles series, the price drop obviously accounted for a portion of that. How much is the question.
  24. QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 02:04 PM) As much as I like Beckham and I agree that he is the best player on the Sox right now, don't compare him to Pujols. Pujols is in a league of his own. Relax. I only mentioned Pujols as an example of consistency after a strong rookie year. Beckham is no Pujols, and apart from some jokes, no one here thinks Beckham is as good as Pujols (I think).
