  1. QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 6, 2016 -> 10:36 AM) Rick Hahn may think there are going to be more suitors. But that doesnt mean the price will be met. Heyman in his last article posted pretty much the same thing from another front office executive. Just because there is more people doesnt make your price any less ridiculous. Does anyone honestly think their price is going to be met? Or that they actually want someone to meet that price? I actually think they dont want their price to be met so they can keep on going in their dream world where they can just add a few veterans and compete. It's going to be nearly impossible to find equal talent, and a team who has a group of top young talent, willing to move it for Sale. I get waiting until the off-season, but even then, you can probably knock off 25 teams right away because their top prospects are not elite. You have more teams probably involved that you would at the deadline, but will teams be as desperate? This last week could have been great pickings if they pulled the trigger - some of the pitching that was traded did bring back quite a haul.
  2. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 6, 2016 -> 09:54 AM) Hahn was on with Levine and Esposito today. Tons of lawyer talk as always but a couple of things More suitors for their players in offseason Players on ML rosters available as well as 2016 draft picks Great deal of progress in INTL Scouting Praised Paddy and Hostetler and talked about the recent draft picks while noting the SSS As good as anyone at developing pitching Acknowledged that they were behind the 8 ball with developing position players but noted that they made some changes to correct this a few years back Mentioned guys like: Semien, Trayce, Micah, Phegley who aren't playing for them but allowed them to acquire guys that "could help" them from other organizations Deferred all questions about Robin and the staff to the offseason but it's pretty clear that he won't be back Hahn is right - their own minor league talent has allowed them to acquire major league talent (latest example of Frazier), but the team isn't winning and the offense is awful. They are good at developing pitching, but, as of right now, knowing they have traded some offensive talent in trades, who are the offensive players in the minors? Even Tim Anderson, who clearly has talent, isn't going to last in the majors if he can't show patience at the plate. Pitchers are just going to throw him garbage and his batting average will keep dropping.
  3. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 6, 2016 -> 09:54 AM) Deferred all questions about Robin and the staff to the offseason but it's pretty clear that he won't be back Even if Robin isn't brought back, what ex-White Sox player do you prefer they hire to replace him? The pandering they do to fill this role is pretty insulting to Sox fans. Just hire the best guy available, he doesn't have to be a former Sox player. That either shows they don't value the role and/or just pandering to a fickle fan base.
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 08:43 PM) They look capable of going 23-34 the final 57. 74-88. Something like that. 57 more games....long season
  5. What happened to him? Serious injury?
  6. All reports say nothing will happen; on one hand, frustrating when you see the amount of talent (at least by ranked prospects within an organization) being given for mediocre/average talent, but it's hard to move these guys and ever feel comfortable that equal talent was received...then again, we're back at where we started - 2 great pitchers, a few professional types (Robertson, Melky, Eaton, Jones, Shields, I'm probably missing a few) with a lot of mediocre talent and our offensive force (Abreu) falling into that category this season.
  7. Definitely some conflicting reports this morning - Boston may be actively talking to the White Sox but chances don't seem more than extremely remote that they do anything.
  8. Not trading Sale or Quintana means that that the White Sox are either going to keep them (and build around them) or re-visit the idea in the off-season. It may make more sense to consider a trade in the off-season when more teams are involved, it just depends on if anyone would be willing to be blow them away now with an offer. Should they decide to keep and build around these two, the question is how? They still don't have much to work with in the minors, and spending on top tier free agents isn't something this organization is known to do. I would expect that they'd keep both trades/free agency open to add to the current roster, but this is a lineup that is 2 middle of the order hitters short and may be short a starting pitcher and bullpen help after this season.
  9. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 12:29 PM) I'd be really shocked if he isn't moved to someone. And when he is, God help this bullpen... After Jones, the Sox will have a bunch of kids/scrubs commingling into tight games. Which teams in contention need a closer and willing to take his contract?
  10. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 02:20 PM) Vogelbach is a more one dementional player where as this kid we picked up has a good 3 or 4 tools in the plus column. More well rounded. I personally would have rather had Vogelbach thou. Definitely appears to be a more well rounded player, but is there enough there that he maxes out an everyday CF?
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 02:22 PM) Isn't Montgomery controllable for a while? If so, he should have brought back a bigger return. They both are under control for at least next season, but I think Montgomery is under control for a few more seasons.
  12. Sounds like they acquired a possible starting OF/CF if he maximizes his potential, but is more likely a 4th OF. To be honest, I'm underwhelmed, but I'm no expert. Duke is a good middle reliever, and there seems to be a premium right now on quality pitching. How does this return compare to what Seattle got for Montgomery?
  13. Perhaps a dumb question, but I'll ask even though I'm sure it's never come up. Would Chris Sale for Mike Trout be a fair trade? Would this help both teams, and metrically, should a team even trade an every day player for a pitcher?
  14. I don't think we're going to know anything....until it happens. Sox will probably do nothing, but I'm not going to be shocked if they did make a significant move.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 21, 2016 -> 06:18 AM) The problem is if all these guys suck and are going to be free agents fairly soon, who would give up anything of value to get them? Which guys are you referring to?
  16. Unless they shock with a complete overhaul, who are the actual player they would consider selling, especially if they treat this as a re-tooling? Could someone like Z.Duke be a trade candidate? I'm not sure how his contract would be perceived by other teams, but he's had a good season. Is Melky Cabrera a trade candidate? Good hitter, but is he going to create trade buzz and can the White Sox, if they are re-tooling, move an offensive piece that helps them? Hard to see much to move here other than these large blockbuster types for their pitching. I don't see them moving Sale or Quintana at this point. It's possible after the season they could come to a conclusion that Fulmer and another season of experience for Rodon (to go with Shields and Sale) could allow them to move Quintana, but that doesn't seem like the type of move they would make.
  17. QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 12:02 PM) We won't sell. Just not happening. FO is looking at this going: a) pitching - there are many pitching starved teams out there - that actually one of our stronger points. We are 5th in the AL in ERA, near the tops I believe for quality starts and we've done so with Latos and Danks and a bunch of others. Add in Shields we should be better. With all of them coming back next year the FO sees this as part of the "window of opportunity" b)fielding - we have the 3rd fewest errors. We have pretty solid infield in terms of range. Not the best - can have improvement out of Lawrie and Abreu, but nonetheless very decent infield. Our OF? Probably a CF away (AJAX defensively at least) from being a very good OF. Hahn is probably thinking about acquiring someone who fits the mold of a 1-3 year rental player where we give up an Adams, etc. to acquire and bolster our OF both offesnviely and defensively. c) batting --- AWFUL. We are near the bottom in almost every category. However, if I am our FO, they are probably thinking, "well Abreu will bounce back. And Frazier will start hitting doubles. And we can improve DH without Garcia" Point being - the FO is going to put one more offseason in this trying to acquire bats. A DH, Catcher, CF. My guess at least. And to be honest, I don't hate it, but don't half ass it either. If you are going to get a bat - go get one. Go get a Lucroy. Go get a solid ass DH. If they come back trying to tell me Avila is a good get or that Ajax is a solution as a starter? GTFO If it doesn't work then you trade everything. This is probably the likely outcome - it would be surprising, even after another mediocre season, for them to blow it up and start fresh. Their starting rotation is locked up and should be set (barring injury) for next season - at least the top 4, and if the 5th spot is an open competition, that's not an issue. The defense has improved, but offensively, as you mentioned, there are holes throughout the lineup. It's a shame that the offensive pipeline from the minors is non-existent with the possible exception of Tim Anderson.
  18. Even if the White Sox are 47-54 (or however the math works at the time the July 31st deadline comes), would anyone expect any major sell-off? They aren't trading Sale, Quintana or Robertson. Maybe a relief pitcher goes...Offensively, Eaton, Cabrera and Abreu are staying. There just isn't much to trade unless they shock the world with a Sale trade and that is not going to happen. They have to go on a major streak over the next 10-12 games, probably taking 8 or 9. Can't keep playing .500 type ball (and actually 21-32 since their hot streak to open the season) and expect to be in this race much longer. Hard to see them winning more than 82-84 though, and that's if everything does fall into place - just a bad offense, too many outs.
  19. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 7, 2016 -> 01:36 PM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/07/carl...in-a-trade.html I think CarGo would be a great addition to the lineup. Wonder what it would take to get him here? The White Sox lineup needs 2 more legitimate run producers. This would be a great start.
  20. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 03:37 PM) Hard to say they are "definitely" better than the Sox when the Sox are collectively 10-6 against those teams. On days that Chris Sale is pitching (and Quintana should be near that category), the White Sox are about as good as any team in the majors. 3/5 of the time, though, the team isn't very good. Saying that, I'm confident that, most days, the Blue Jays and Red Sox (and probably the Astros) are better than the White Sox.
  21. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 08:27 AM) Once again, the second wildcard can give teams legitimate hope and a false sense of hope. It's possible you haven't looked at this yet this or even know who's leading the 2nd Wildcard. The Blue Jays lead, and are on pace for 87 wins. The Mariners, Tigers, and Royals are ahead of the White Sox. http://espn.go.com/mlb/standings/_/view/wi...rd/group/league This scenario may actually be saving Ventura's job right now. On the other hand, the Sox were once in a position where 64-64 after 23-11 would have won 87 games. That's a shame. It's hard for me to consider the White Sox when they are significantly below .500 when Sale is not pitching.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 05:10 PM) With Saladino giving them a lot of positives, I am really good with this. Part of this teams issue has been rushing position player instead of letting the players force the issue. As raw and Anderson was, I am very OK with letting him pound away at AAA for a season, and then calling him up in September. I'd really not rush him if we don't have to because of injury or something. I don't want to rush Anderson either, and Saladino does look like a major league player - he now has a chance to earn an everyday spot in the lineup (somewhere) if he can hit.
  23. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 05:06 PM) Also depends on Anderson. He had a great start but has dropped off the last 2 weeks. Pretty normal for a young player. Absolutely - he won't be an option unless he's showing continued growth in the minors.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 04:56 PM) Sounds to me like the Sox are happy with Saladino, or have another player in their sights and are downplaying the need for a SS. It sounds like that's the intention - leave him in the minors where he can continue to develop; however, if the major league play at SS is sub-par offensively and the team continues to a bottom feeder in offensive stats, I think there could be a change of course.
  25. QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 12:33 PM) I agree. The problem is - this team is headed in the wrong direction and have a very tough schedule. It's fun to talk about what power hitter they are adding, but does this conversation change by the end of the month as to whom they are going to have to move?
