  1. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 12:58 PM) http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/hitters-no-...k-only-decline/ According to this article, the new peak is 26 years old. Are the White Sox aware of this study? Is so, why sign La Roche and Dunn?
  2. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 11:47 AM) I was just about to post this. "The signing of Alejandro De Aza seemed to pretty well close the door on Cespedes, and sources say the Mets' foray into the Cespedes market was brief. And now it is over. (It may have been over for a while.)" http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-he...y-of-now-sought So, the Mets are looking for a RH outfielder eh? To the Mets I say, can we interest you in Avi Garcia? The signing of De Aza should never preclude the sighing of a much better player. I understand other issues (budget, team isn't built to contend, etc.), but that seems to be pretty a crazy conclusion to me. The Mets don't seem interested in spending money - only to a point. I think that's the bigger issue than De Aza being signed.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 09:20 AM) No. Nope, the Sox can win the off-season, but the Cubs move have WON the off-season.
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 09:13 AM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/12/mike...als-in-mix.html Interesting if he could stay healthy Cardinals rotation remains strong with this move. 1) Adam Wainwright 2) Carlos Martinez 3) Michael Wacha 4) Mike Leake 5) Jaime Garcia With Wainwight missing almost all of last season, they have added 1 elite starter and another dependable starting pitcher. Their offense still leaves a to be desired, but that was probably the case with Heyward as well. I'm sure they aren't done adding to the offense. As optimistic as Cub fans should be (and they do look very good on paper), this is still a top heavy division that may take 95 wins+ to win. St. Louis is formidable with that rotation alone and the Pirates are still around as well. This will be a fun division next season again.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 11:02 PM) That's the problem...I'm not sure there will be the same "open checkbook" from JR to add second/third tier pieces like Parra, Austin Jackson and another veteran starting pitcher even if the price would be the same or similar as the cost of signing one of Upton/Cespedes/Gordon in terms of payroll ($20-25 million added). If you added Parra for $8-10 million, already you'd be quite limited in adding two more pieces (quality) for between $12-15 million more. You couldn't afford Gallardo, Parra and Austin Jackson, for example. Maybe you could manage Parra, Jackson and Fister...but could you sell that to JR? How many times have we had that discussion about "getting stuck in the middle" and adding 2nd/3rd tier options and overpaying for their past performance (see Cabrera/LaRoche/Duke, etc.) Definitely that idea of overpaying for a Fowler or Span instead of one of the big names and calling it quits is scary/disappointing for most Sox fans, although surely better than Avi. $12.5-15 million better, though? Not likely. I'd love to know what their definition of 'all-in' means. I guess they can say they are trying to win it all if they a #4 #5 and #6 hitter to the lineup without losing much at the major league level. I tend to think you're right - if they don't land a top talent, I don't think they will spend that same money on lesser free agents; perhaps, some bargain basement shopping, but probably not to the same spending levels.
  6. Who are the best OBP type guys on the market? SS and OF. This lineup, while improved with Frazier and Lawrie, still needs to improve in guys who can just get on base. If they are willing to spend 18-20 a year on one of these OF, can they add 2-3 players who can help in the bullpen/possible starter, SS, OF. In other words, give Ventura lots of quality MLB depth. *I don't think they are pursing this option since they are linked to the power hitting OF's.
  7. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 06:39 PM) Folk: The Sox are looking for a real play by play man not a former player trying to do that. Big difference between play by play and color. Of the names mentioned in one of the most recent posts, Black Jack has fallen out of favor with the organization due to his blog criticisms of how they handled Gordon Beckham's development, Frank has been doing a lot of work for Fox and I don't know if he could fit the Sox in his schedule. Tom is almost as old as Hawk and had recent hip surgery. Huff I can't speak with any knowledge of. Mark Frank wouldn't be a play by play guy though, right? I hope you're right if that's the plan, but I really hope they are looking outside of their immediate White Sox family.
  8. QUOTE (spiderman @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 03:21 PM) Would love to see spin-off movies about Bobba Fettt, Jabba, and Yoda. Rogue 1 sounds good as well and I'm sure we'll get a Jabba some in a Han movie (maybe Bobba Fett by default). Yoda has so much history that his spin-off may not even feel like a spin-off movie. Still would love to see a movie on Darth Vader in between 3 and 4 killing everything in sight. Hopefully Rogue 1 will have some Vader in it if he's chasing them. Isn't the concept of Rogue 1 an elite taskforce from the rebellion who are trying to capture the plans to the deathstar or something like that? Speaking of which, I presume it will be in flashback form (since he's already dead) but Hayden Christensen is going to play a role in Episode 8.

  10. QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 07:46 AM) Many of us die hard Sox fans dread the upcoming fervor, we're convinced will be sweeping across the city, over the Cubs' quest for their first World Championship in over a Century. We're skeptical that the front office will take the necessary steps to complete revamping the pathetic offense, which wasted so many terrific starts by Sale and Quintana. So, some of us have already resigned ourselves to the inevitability of a 2016 Season, in which the North Side will capture all of the attention of the city, and maybe even the baseball world. We might be a little premature in sinking into this gloomy defeatist mood. Chicago is a great baseball town, and baseball fever is contagious. When the buzz starts to capture everyone's attention, lots of casual fans, and even formerly uninterested by standers, will begin to feel the first symptoms of baseball fever. Picking up the paper every morning and reading about all of the excitement, listening to friends, family and co workers bantering back and forth about players, plays and stats, could all create an irresistible attraction to the sport we all love. Who knows better than we, how much fun and how addicting it can be to be a baseball fanatic? Wrigley can only accommodate 42,000 fans. Where will the rest of the baseball fever struck fans go, for their baseball fix? Everyone in town knows a Sox fan, or two and with a little encouragement from them, the newbie just might be encouraged to buy a ticket and see just what all of the excitement is about. The Sox need only have a decent, competitive product on the field. And if baseball fever is contagious, so is winning. Who knows, with a few more fans in the seats and some of the new personalities in the Sox clubhouse, these guys might just catch fire. If they could get off to a good start, the town could explode with enthusiasm for the game. Imagine the so longed for talk of a crosstown World Series. It wouldn't take much to set off this contagion. We all have our own opinions about whom the front office should acquire, but let's just hope that Sox ownership has a little imagination and can see the opportunity that they would be missing if they don't at least try to make the team a legitimate contender. I'm not suggesting that we Sox fans should celebrate the emergence of the Cubs, but we shouldn't regard it as a negative for our fortunes. The Sox will decide their own destiny and the growing enthusiasm for their crosstown rivals may actually be a positive. Interesting, but I really don't see any uptick in attendance resulting from Wrigley Field not being able to hold the number of people eager to watch Cubs baseball. If anything, the Brewers will be happy 9 times a year and other regional teams will see more Cubs fans (I'm sure they already travel well) during the summer, but the White Sox will probably continue to have their 18-22K on warm summer nights with the exception of fireworks night and Yankee/Red Sox/ Cubs games.
  11. QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 10:23 AM) They're close, though. They already project to be around the middle of the pack in the AL. Need more from the OF corners. If they got one more hitter in the middle of that lineup, I think they could be close. Right now, I see Abreu in the #3 hole, Lawrie in the #6 and Frazier probably in the #5 spot. They could slide Melky Cabrera or Adam La Roche into the middle of the lineup at times, but one run producer is needed.
  12. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 10:14 AM) Yes he was asked about adding one of the big FA outfielders to replace Avi. He's not going to confirm much on the topic, but was there any sense they are still looking to add a significant bat and/or any other help via free agency?
  13. Was he specifically asked about adding another big bat? They are still lacking 1 hitter in the middle of that lineup.
  14. Goff may be the worst interviewer I have ever heard. Instead of just asking a question, he gives a long winded half-opinion/statement followed by a question. If he would just ask his question and realize his opinion can wait, they can cover so much more topics.
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 03:18 PM) Shes making a movie or something about sexism on the internet. Anyone who bases their opinion of people on twitter or comment sections on articles needs to have their head examined. Is there a link for more information on this? I'm not sure how she became involved in sports radio other than to give Dan Bernstein another nodding head when he takes the afternoon show down a path that reminds me of MSNBC whenever he can tie a sports issue to some social issue, but she really hurt whatever reputation she had with that Kane story. Now, I see she has become a Cubs insider out of nowhere and spends her day being outraged over twitter responses.
  16. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 09:09 PM) Dan Connolly ‏@danconnollysun 37m37 minutes ago Sources: The #Orioles are negotiating with, and have made an offer to, LH-hitting Korean outfielder Hyun-Soo Kim, 27. A sign that they use their money on Davis and not spend big on Upton, Cespedes, or Gordon? Isn't Davis primarily a DH? Is this player projected as an OF? What kind of money is in play here as well?
  17. QUOTE (Saufley @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 06:35 PM) Would be nice if the Sox could add Frazier and Upton and not have Q involved. Why couldn't that happen? The White Sox aren't trading Quintana in a Frazier deal in all probability.
  18. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 08:06 PM) How about a real life broadcaster instead of an ex-Sox player? Someone of the John Rooney ilk. Not that I loved him, but still he was a pro. That is what they should do. Enough of this 'ex-White Sox' crap. Get an up and coming play by play talent.
  19. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 08:30 PM) STLCards not chasing Alex Gordon - or any "dynamic" signing, @dgoold reports. So maybe down to CHW, Balt, and LAA ( the O's are rumored to be targeting Gallardo) Have the White Sox been linked to Gordon? How about Cespedes? I don't recall hearing any actual rumors, more speculation. Obviously, there have been some rumors earlier this month about Upton. Which of these require a draft pick to sign? Baltimore is the one team I'm not sure what they are doing, if they are truly out on Chris Davis also. Angels seem to be in the hunt and Cardinals claim they are not. Very interesting. Have to assume this will sort itself out quickly, as in this week for at least one of these guys.
  20. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 01:34 PM) If 2016 is a development year then trade Sale,Q and Abreu. Get it over with already. You cant afford to waste years of their youth/contracts to try and see if any of the players besides Rodon can become anything decent. That's a waste. The patch work team hasn't been a mode for success. They probably should have looked into what Quintana could bring back (as that Arizona/Atlanta trade as a sample), but if the alternative option is tearing down the minor league system just as it's starting to improve, and giving big money to free agents isn't exactly a plan that has worked.
  21. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 01:00 PM) they have been drafting way better, esp in the hitter dept. with hahn, i fully trust that problem will be fixed in the future. but the problem in now in the interim. If they are drafting better, all the more reason to keep them and let them come to the majors as a White Sox player. The alternative is much harder - keep trading young players away for veteran hitters and/or using free agency to sign veteran hitters. These options haven't worked. Let's try a long-term approach. Develop our own talent.
  22. QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 12:50 PM) AMEN. If you're going to go for it, go for it. But don't trade an Anderson and then trot out Garcia and LaRoche and have Erik Johnson as your #5. Agreed. I have been against the approach of signing free agents year after year because of their inability to develop position players, but they can't say they wan to go for it while Chris Sale is in his prime, and then leave so many gaping holes when some of them could be addressed in free agency AND in one season, they do drop $25+ million off the payroll when Danks/La Roche are up. I'm sure they could find a way to get creative, and pay a free agent less money in year one, but make up for it the back of the deal and/or give that player an option to opt-out early.
  23. Bold prediction: Adam La Roche will be on the White Sox next season.
  24. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 05:21 PM) A #30 pick isn't worth infinity dollars. At some price and after some combination of moves, Fowler makes sense, but the Sox still need more big improvements across the team. If the only problem was that Avi sucks and everything else was good, then yeah, grab Fowler stick him at a corner outfield spot and that's a nice improvement. But they need bigger improvements overall which is why signing Upton or Cespedes seems a more direct route. Tend to agree; I don't think they should be making any moves that sacrifice draft picks. Mortgaging future draft picks is not a way to sustaining success. The White Sox could improve by adding a Fowler, but they really need impact bats in the middle of the lineup. They have Abreu, and Melky Cabrera (who will be in that #2-#6 spots, but there are 2 or 3 spots that must be improved drastically in the run producing spots of that order. These players are not on the team right now.
  25. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 09:28 PM) Daryl Van Schouwen ‏@CST_soxvan 1m1 minute ago Hahn said White Sox are not done looking to improve offense. Yes! Keep doing it! Take my money! They have question marks all over the place from an offensive standpoint, and it appears limited money to spend in free agency. They don't seem interested in moving any starting pitching and don't have much minor league talent to trade. However, from both a 'found' money standpoint and moving young talent, they can probably surprise us and make a significant trade or make move on a free agent if they really wanted a specific talent, even if it impacts their minor league system, etc. It will be interesting to see what they are able to do with the limitations that appear to be in place.
