  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 09:52 PM) Except the problems, as we all know, really aren't mechanical ones. We know that Danks is trying to re-create himself. The shoulder surgery is the root cause, but I'm sure they do see things that are correctable on tape; in other words, there is no overcoming his lack of velocity so everything else from a mechanical standpoint has to be near perfect.
  2. They're going to be patient with him. If he's bad early, they can probably find ways to skip a start here or there and work on any mechanical issues in a side session. They can also hide him on the DL if he's really struggling. Chances are, he'll mix in a few good starts with his usual stink bombs though. Ideally, he'll be a #5 starter, and bite the bullet in some of his starts to save the bullpen. I'm at a point with him where if he can pitch around 200 IP in that slot of the rotation, I'll take it.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 19, 2014 -> 09:42 AM) You can sign him to the 6/$105 this year, which is $17.5 mill, but pay him $10 mill this year in the last year of arbitration and then it becomes a 5/$95 extension which is damn near $20 mill, and he'd probably be able to feed his family. Assuming he has another good season and is a consensus #2 starter (borderline #1 for some teams), I think he is leaving a lot of money on the table; to date, I don't think that's an option for him.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 11:43 AM) I feel like we are an 83 win team if we have an average season, we need the danks/garcia/bullpen great years to get us to 88 wins. I was thinking I should have revised my prediction down some from 85-90 to 85 if things go about as expected.
  5. The team should be somewhere between 85 and 90 if things go right. If things go better, meaning guys like Danks or some of the younger hitting (Garcia and 2B) hit better than expected, the team can maybe break 90. Of course, the opposite is also true; Sale usually spends some time on the DL; Quintana and Jeff S. both are expected to pitch like front-line starters. Even if they do, what about #4 and #5? Will Robertson solidify the bullpen? Lots of questions either way that can make the team better or worse than mid to upper 80 win team.
  6. At most, you can see another starter added, but it would have to be a guy coming off a bad season or injury; competition for the #5 spot, assuming Danks is the #4 starter and Noesi is given competition for that spot. Making a move like this would help Rodon's development. No need to rush him if there's veteran options at the MLB level. Offensively, still would like to see another option a 3B, but realizing that there may not be one available. Outside of that, I'm ok with the young players battling out 2B and Flowers behind the plate.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 11, 2014 -> 04:15 PM) Dan Hayes ‏@CSNHayes 2h2 hours ago Don Cooper said Dan Jennings won't need a new pitch, just a "mechanical alteration." White Sox like the LHP. http://bit.ly/1vHCZxT Why does he need an alteration? His numbers look really good. What am I missing here?
  8. Daryl Van Schouwen ‏@CST_soxvan Hahn: Sox have reached $ limit but they still want upgrade in one area in particular. Presumably that's left field. Wants speed, athleticism
  9. Cooper seemed optimistic on the morning show that the White Sox were not doing making moves (it doesn't sound as if he is heavily involved though). Sounds like the Sox still want to add one more reliever to the mix.
  10. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 05:38 PM) At 6:00CT With Lawrence Holmes? Ugh.
  11. If they add another starting pitcher, it will probably be a guy coming an injury/bad season. I think most of of their remaining resources will be left to upgrade LF and hopefully 3B.
  12. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 09:08 AM) Wonderful. Trade our next Sale for a .614 OPS. Or is it a .724 OPS. And it doesn't even touch on the key need of LF. The "grass is always greener" is growing like mad. I'm not saying they would or should trade Rodon, but a prospect with the ceiling he has, and club control, etc., that's the type of prospect that can probably land (or at least make another team think hard) a premier player.
  13. QUOTE (GoGoSox2k2 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 07:40 AM) Not sure if this deserved a new thread, so feel free to move. But did anyone catch Mully & Hanley this morning (around 7) mention that the Sox are talking to the Rays about Longoria and/or Myers? I can not see the Rays dealing either of them considering they are both under control and good prices for years. But thought it was more than interesting? Rock and/or Bucket are you guys out there? Who is Rick eyeing up now? I still think he has to be after the guy he mentioned they targetted in the 3 team trade at the deadline because I cant think that it would have been Shark. I'm sure a deal around Rodon and Anderson would get TB at least thinking.

Myers would probably still cost a ton, but he is coming off a season where injuries impacted him. Not sure if he is willing to sign an extension early in his career like some younger players, but he'd be a great addition in keeping the team built primarily on younger talent.
  15. Probably a 3 way battle in the spring between Sanchez, Garcia, and Johnson. Johnson is clearly the guy they would want to win the job, but he may not be ready. Garcia was not a MLB caliber player this past season, and Sanchez doesn't seem to be anything special. Too many outs still in this lineup, including 2B, 3B, LF and C. This is a position that will have to be addressed from within.
  16. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 01:23 PM) https://mobile.twitter.com/ChuckGarfien/sta...340460627243008 While I would prefer they don't bring him up until June then so we don't lose a year with him as a reliever, I understand the approach. The White Sox have had success in the past with this, and he would fill a need as well. Obviously, this couldn't be a long-term (more than a season, if that) approach, but if the Sox have a formula that works, they should continue to use with Rodon.

  18. I wouldn't give him away, but then again, his play hasn't exactly inspired a lot of interest. The signing of LaRoche ended his career here. I thought there was an outside chance they could keep him as a DH; given that he can hit for power, that is a commodity that teams can use (including the White Sox) but it seems unlikely that they would bring him back to play regularly in the OF going forward. What's interesting is that they can probably use a somewhat decent 4th OF as well given Eaton's over the top aggression (at times) play, and the change that the eventual new LF isn't a guy who plays 145 games.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2014 -> 11:29 AM) Wayne Randazzo ‏@WayneRandazzo 3m3 minutes ago According to @MLBBruceLevine, Kenny Williams commented to him that resigning from the #WhiteSox is one of many options he's considering. Shame that Bruce Levine had Williams on the radio yesterday, and none of this was known.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2014 -> 11:16 AM) That is my biggest problem with it. Dude is walking away during the busiest time of the year for a front office, complete with the teams entire knowledge and plans. This is a true promotion, not a lateral one. White Sox should allow him to interview.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 05:08 PM) John Danks is owed $29 million. That's the equivalent of ~5 fWAR. If you just assume "He'll do what he did last year" you'd say he's likely to put up just over 1 fWAR, so he's overpaid by about $20-$24 million. In other words, you need a prospect who is at least good enough to put up that amount, with some risk associated with it. I'd say you're talking about a guy at least in the top 10 of our system, probably top 5-6 given the risks associated, to get someone to do that. If you consider that the rotation is likely to include, the below, there does seem to be room for a highly paid pitcher (maybe not Scherzer level), but the 3 out of 5 starters keep the rotation deals more than reasonable. Of course, the rest of the team has to be considered, but outside of Abreu, Ramirez and LaRoche, the team doesn't have have large salaries - Sale - Quintana - Danks - Rodon (maybe not to start the season, but by June) - ?????
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 02:31 PM) I could see them spending 100 mil Interesting, so that could mean, if true, that they have about $25M to play with. Of the approximate $75 million they have spent so far, how many players is that for? So if it's $75 for 11 players (just guessing), how many players from the remaining 14 that will be on the MLB roster to we project to be playing for the minimum?
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 10:13 AM) I'm telling you, we have more payroll and adding a REALLY good RHP to the rotation immediately makes us contenders IMO. Other threads say the White Sox have ~$15M or so to spend to get into the low $90M range. Not sure how much of that ~$15M is for free agents or players making minimum salaries to fill out the roster, but it seems, if that number is right, that the Sox can maybe add another 1 or 2 role player type(s), but they would be up against that 90M fairly quickly. Unless the Sox are looking to spend $110M or so, it's hard to see them competing for any premier free agents.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 3, 2014 -> 02:59 PM) I put us at about $63-$64 million if Arb was offered to Viciedo, which it was. Plus $12 million for Laroche and $4.5 million for Duke puts us at within error of $80 million. $80 Million with how many players of the expected 25 man roster?
  25. Would be strange for the White Sox to give up prospects for a guy who wants 110 million + on a new deal. Would the Sox really move 2 of their better prospects for a 1 year rental assuming he wants to become a free agent?
