I think the next month and half will show what kind of team Kenny Williams feels he will field for next season with his decision on what to do with Mark Buerhle pending. Here's why, and I look forward to reading some of your intelligent responses. The White Sox are not going to win, or compete in the AL Central, next season if they trade Mark Buerhle for young players, and don't replace him by next season with a capable veteran. I can't see them competing with a rotation including 50 year old Jose Contreras, inconsistent Javier Vazquez, steady J.Garland, John Denks, and then another young pitcher in his rookie season. On top of that, if they do decide to move Buerhle for younger players, what is the future of the other veterans starting pitchers on the staff ? Does Kenny look to add younger prospects in the off-season for Contereas, Vazquez, and Garland ? On the flip side, if they do keep Buerhle for the remainder of the season, doesn't that give some hope they feel they can resign him OR at least will look to build the team with quicker fixes if they weren't willing to move Buerhle for prospects ?

QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 06:22 PM) If they can win 15 out of the 20 that would put them just over .500. Going into the season if you were to tell me the Sox would be a .500 team at the All_Star break I would have been disappointed. Now, I'd be ecstatic. So, just for the sake of discussion, if they were to win say 15 out of the next twenty, should/would they then be buyers or sellers? IF they were to win 15 out of 20 games, they would probably be about 6-7 games out of the division lead, and and 5 or 6 out of the wildcard, and I think Kenny Williams would look to add on. This is a great post though. Perhaps Kenny is looking at these next 3 weeks as a final measuring stick to see if they can muster up a run. In my opinion, the White Sox aren't nearly as bad as they have been in the last 18 games, but they aren't really much better than an average team. They could just as easily go 12-8 or 8-12 in this stretch.

QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 09:58 AM) I only have one piece of advice for the Sox in 2008: GO YOUNG YOUNG YOUNG YOUNG YOUNG and YOUNG I might sign Rowand but that's it. Rebuild it right. Why would sign Rowand then ? A bouquet to the fans ? -

QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 09:05 PM) you better believe Uribe would but cut loose as well. no first pitch hackers on this squad. atleast no Uribe. that's all i care about. that slacker has to go. he is a colorado rockies throw away player. you know he is subpar just by that alone. Finally, you said something that makes sense. -

QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 08:52 PM) where did you get those #'s? again, all you guys do is criticize. thanks for sharing your great ideas/sarcasm. Hunter is easily better than any hitter on our squad. look at the #'s. northsidepolish17, don't get offended because you've been continually owned by the new poster. just deal with it, ace. Signing Hunter at $13+ might look ok for a season or two, but he's going to be in his mid-30's halfway through a contract like that. Not a good idea. -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 08:38 PM) Luis Terrero has been someone that I have dogged. But he is producing at a decent clip in the CF position. If he can stay 265 to 275 ish with that kind of power, he could be the guy. I'll give Terrero credit. He has actually done a solid/good job when he's been in there, and right now he should be in there every day. Saying that, it's funny to hear DJ call him a dangerous hitter. We get 3 runs tonight, all on solo HR's. -

QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 07:32 PM) I don't think anyone can. They are all too dumbfounded to even respond. Not defending it, only thing I can possibly think is that Fields has some injury that they took him out for. Clearly, there's no strategy in bringing in Alex Cintron. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 07:28 PM) This has to be the least upset I've ever been during a Sox debacle. Deep down in my heart, I know it's for the best if they keep losing for a while. Last night was the first time in at least 5 years I didn't bother watching a single highlight of a Sox game I missed. That's kind of how I feel right now. I've come to expect bad things to happen. Tonight, they start the game hitting (that lasted all of one inning), and then the starting pitching stinks. I guess it's hard to get upset when your expectations are so low. -

Gentlemen, I know we all love the Sox, but at some point, when do we stop being upset and just accept reality that we don't have a good team this season. When does Kenny pull the plug ? -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 11, 2007 -> 07:50 PM) He's got such a losing mentality. He pitches just well enough to lose. He's the opposite of guys like Garcia or Pettitte, etc. Correction - Vazquez is not awesome. He has very good starts, and starts, not so good. He's a 3rd or 4th starter. -

Look at this lineup. AJ batting 3rd.... Mackowiak leading off... Uribe batting 6th... Dye can't hit.... Luis Terrero in CF..... It's just a bad lineup. -

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 11, 2007 -> 07:30 PM) Buerhle isn't going to take a 3 or 4 year contract IMO. Think 5-7 years with big money. The Sox don't go that long with pitchers. It really is a pretty good policy. I know you are correct. If he hits free agency, I don't see any chance of him coming back given the teams that will give 5, 6 and maybe even 7 years with at least the same $$$ the White Sox would be offereing. It is a good policy, and they've had some of their inhouse guys, like Vazquez, Garland and Contreras (not free agents) willing to take the 3 year extensions....I'm holding out slim hope that maybe he'd take a 3 or 4 year deal....Unrealstic I know, but I don't have much else to hold onto this baseball season. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 11, 2007 -> 07:25 PM) He better not even think about making a big move to help this team. And BTW, the reports on Erstad aren't promising. It went from him being sure he could return after 15 days to him saying that he's not sure how long he'll be out. He's a tough dude, but that's a painful injury and something he's going to tweak a few more times this year. Sutcliffe said he talked to him, and that Erstad hopes to play by the end of the week...not that it will help. As far as making a move, I agree with you. Trading for Adam Dunn is going to do what exactly ? If we stink, fine. It sucks, but I want Williams doing what he can to strengthen next year's team. Erin Andrews is amazing. -

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 11, 2007 -> 07:24 PM) They aren't going to catch Cleveland and they have a few teams to jump over for the wildcard. I don't think they can win unless a miracle happens and the bullpen can get someone out. I have a feeling KW is not going to want to admit failure however. Buerhle should bring a nice package. Dye could bring something back as well and save money. They actually would have more money to throw at Buerhle this offseason the sooner they deal him. If he's serious about being here that is. I wonder how its going to go over on this board when he signs with the Cardinals and at his introductory press conference says St. Louis is the place he always wanted to be. I hope we can still work out a 3 or 4 year deal for Buerhle. If we don't keep the one strength on our team, starting pitching, we are not going to be competitive in the AL Central. I would hope that they would try again before they decide to move him. I know he can get us back nice prospects, or players on the verge of the majors, but we're not going to win anything with kids in our rotation in the AL. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 11, 2007 -> 07:01 PM) It's sad that 1 hit through 4 innings against a pitcher with a 6 ERA isn't upsetting anymore. Not being able to use Thome and Konerko in the same lineup makes a terrible lineup even worse. But hey, at least Greg Walker deserves none of the blame. As Farmer says "when this team starts hitting, they won't stop". I just turned on the radio, and those guys were just talking about how good Eaton looks....I'm sick of hearing how the other pitcher is just good that night while our hitters get one hit through 4 innings. I'd be upset about their performance tonight against Eaton if I wasn't used to it.
