  1. QUOTE(southsideirish @ May 24, 2007 -> 11:32 PM) Gotham Baseball has a rumor about certain Reds players being available since they are 10 games under .500 and 10 games out of first in the Central. Ryan Freel would look great leading off and playing LF for the Sox. Gotham Baseball Link Opinions? Didn't the Reds just sign Freel to an extension not long ago ? If so, I don't think they are trading him. QUOTE(Soxfest @ May 25, 2007 -> 11:56 AM) SI had this nugget, Here we go again! 4. Ken Griffey Jr. to the White Sox Griffey hasn't shown any willingness to go to New York when the opportunity has arisen. But maybe Chicago's more to his liking. It's a nice city with a nice team that still should have a chance, something that has eluded the Reds regularly. It's finally time to thrown in the towel on the great Griffey trade to his hometown team, an annual albatross for the also-running Reds. The White Sox have been hurt by the injury to Jim Thome and could use the left-handed power Griffey provides. Griffey (eight homers, 26 RBIs, .297) is having a fine year. But he'd be much better off having the DH option, which could limit his own well-known propensity for pain. If Griffey's looking to DH, the White Sox are the wrong team then.
  2. I'd like to see AJ hit for a higher average - not .300 but I'd take .270ish, and his defense does stink, but the White Sox starters aren't very good at holding runners on so, it's a combined effort there. Overall, the guy is a leader, gets big hits, and is valuable to our team. I do think Toby Hall needs to play at least 2x a week though if not to keep AJ as fresh as possible, and to keep Hall from becoming rusty.
  3. Next time they face Santana, they may as well just rest any player with a cold or worse. They have a loser mantality when it comes to facing him.
  4. The game COULD have been played, and SHOULD have been played on Saturday night. The rain was out of the area, at worst, by 8:00 PM, and they could have had first pitch by 8:30 PM. I have no idea if they have some internal policy to call any game with rain early of if they are just worried about losing any potential revenue from a sell out, but this was just stupid. From a baseball standpoint, we lost the chance to face a bad pitcher, and now will have to face Scott Kazmir, who if he's on, will win on Sunday, and how many double-hitters do we now have to play in the summer ?
  5. Why is Edwards a better candidate than in 2004 when he didn't get the nomination, and then lost as VP ? Hasn't he been out of government since, thus negating the 'more experience' needed' argument ?
  6. For now, it's just going to be a platoon, and let's just hope one of those guys can get going some. If we're still talking about no production from our LF spot in a month or so, I'd consider giving one of the minor leaguers - Sweeney or Anderson - a chance to regrab a starting job in LF.
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ May 20, 2007 -> 09:47 PM) Adding Thome allows to move AJ down to the 6th or 7th spot in the order, and that helps the balance of this team. AJ has been hitting very well lately. I realize that's probably going to end up being our lineup, but with him hitting so well, I'd be thinking, in the short-term while he is swing a hot bat, of going Thome 3, Dye 4, AJ 5, and Konerko 6, which would give the White Sox the lefty-righty combo.
  8. QUOTE(greg775 @ May 20, 2007 -> 07:35 PM) Now that we've sent Sweeney down, would it be too much to ask of Mack to step up? Mack needs to produce. If he does what he has over his career, we'll be happy with him, and also it would be nice if others, specifically Konerko, would begin hitting as well.
  9. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ May 20, 2007 -> 06:15 PM) Fixed for you Right now, he's not better. Defensively, he's pretty solid, but at the plate, he's got a ways to go.
  10. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ May 20, 2007 -> 05:09 PM) Again, WHY? Lol. Who would you rather have playing LF everyday? Ozuna/Mack or Sweeney? I don't want Sweeney playing everyday if he can't hit. Right now, he's being exposed at the plate, and we're not exactly in a position to develop younger players right now on an offense that can't hit. Now, if the White Sox said, we are going to give Ryan Sweeney 90% of the playing time until July 1st to see how he handles being a regular MLB player, I would give it a shot because he is potentially better than Mackowiak or Ozuna, but we know that Ozzie isn't going to do that because he's playing matchups with that spot, and doesn't want the kid to lose his confidence.
  11. I think Romney and Edwards have spent a ton of time in Iowa, so the results shouldn't be totally shocking. Nationally, they both are still getting beat up in the polls though. Edwards '2 America's' and Romney's flip-flopping don't seem to be catching on much.
  12. Moore is an idiot. I really hope people here don't embrace his politics.
  13. QUOTE(briguy27 @ May 20, 2007 -> 04:08 PM) i voted for some players, others not. aj is 2-5 with 4 rbis, dye is continuing to be hot with a 1-3 day with another homer, uribe is 1-3, and paulie is 1-3. with 16 runs in 2 games, i definitley think its possible. i just hope our bullpen can figure it out soon damn, a ran delay. so if it gets called, is it a white sox winner? somebody help me with this one, im confused with this new rule I think it's a White Sox winner.
  14. QUOTE(briguy27 @ May 20, 2007 -> 04:10 PM) wait, why not send down terrero and keep sweeney? it makes no sense, sweeney had no starts this weekend, and he has been one of our hottest hitters (well maybe for the better, since robby-mack has 3 rbis in 2 games) He hasn't been hitting either - I believe his average is right around .200 now. I think they beleive Terrero is a more suited backup player because he has been around some, and Sweeney is better off geting everyday at-bats in the minors.
  15. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 20, 2007 -> 03:55 PM) Sweeney had a hole in his swing he needs to fix. If he goes down in AAA and works on that and fixes it, than he will eventually be back in the bigs and for the longrun. He can't hit the inside pitch, but hopefully the minors can help with that.
  16. What can we really do besides move Logan back to the minors and try somebody else ? The guys in the pen have to get the job done. Simple as that. It's not going to be possible to reshape the pen during the season, so it's on the MacDougle's and others to get better.
  17. QUOTE(BearSox @ May 20, 2007 -> 04:02 PM) With the return of Thome, I think the offense is on the verge of breaking out. Definitely should help.
  18. QUOTE(rangercal @ May 20, 2007 -> 03:59 PM) so we both agree he hasn't jumped off a bridge just yet. You may beg to differ, but I don't think he will make any major moves until July. I don't know that we'll make a major move. If we're hanging around, LF becomes a glaring need that we may be able to find a stop-gap player that's better than what we have, but isn't going to cost us top prospects.
  19. I think the offense is getting out of the month long funk that it's been in, but I think it will eventually be an offense that puts up 10 runs one day, but then won't score that much combined for the next 3 or 4 games. It's basically a HR or nothing offense that will have it's great days, but often will struggle.
  20. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 20, 2007 -> 03:50 PM) http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AnLO...p&type=lgns I think he's overreacting. Everything will be fine. It depends on what you mean by fine. This is a .500 type team. Has been now since the All-Star break last season. Our offense will hit better, but it still will struggle to score without hitting HR's, and now the bullpen seems to be hit or miss way too often. I think our starting rotation will continue to do a good job, but the Tigers are the class of the division, and eventually this team needs to find a way to get on some winning streaks.
  21. I didn't have much of an issue with sending Sweeney down. Williams had said the other day he wasn't going to send him down, but he's looked lost at the plate the past week or so. We still have a gaping hole in LF however that I don't see any solution for on the team.
  22. QUOTE(spiderman @ May 19, 2007 -> 04:53 PM) Yeah, Paulie will swing on the 1st pitch, and ground out to 3B. Looks like Dye did that for him.
  23. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 19, 2007 -> 04:52 PM) Heh, I'm thinking the same thing. I have very little confidence that the Sox will score here. It's basically on Jermaine's shoulders with Konerko batting after him, too. Yeah, Paulie will swing on the 1st pitch, and ground out to 3B.
  24. QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ May 19, 2007 -> 04:51 PM) What do you do with Vazquez? Leave him in? He'll probably be a really short leash.
  25. QUOTE(fathom @ May 19, 2007 -> 04:50 PM) Then put on a hit-and-run and make him focus on hitting it to the right side. Even if he got that bunt down, it was a stupid decision. I'm not going to agree on this one. As a team, we suck at hitting right now. I'd rather attempt to get a guy in scoring position to give us 2 chances to drive him in. Either way, this looks like it's going to be a 1 run game today so we need our bullpen to step up today, and protect a lead, but I just don't have much confidence in Uribe's bat right now. I'm not sure if it's a good thing, but Guillend did agree with me.
