  1. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 01:29 AM) Or Geoff Blum Afterall, Blum was acquired mid-season, whereas Thome was acquired in the offseason. Good point - I was more referring to Kenny's desire to get better with the big move for Thome, even after they won the World Series. As for this trade deadline, I'd be surprised if the Sox didn't find some middle reliever to help out.
  2. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 09:18 PM) I dont think anyone major gets dealt. This is more or less the same team that won it all last year and I think KW is gonna let em make their run at it again without anymore moves. If we somehow fail to make the playoffs or have an early exit though you can look for some offseason moves. I think, WS winners or not, Kenny will be on the move again for more help like he did with Thome.
  3. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 09:02 PM) This is the only post I read in this whole thread and it sums up everything perfectly. While that may be the true, picking the White Sox pitching staff wasn't one of the options....I would just hate to be down by a game or two in September and have to face Liriano and Santana back to back.
  4. The team you have to fear the most is the Twins - if you are facing both Liriano and Santana in the same series. If that's not happening, the Twins don't really scare me.
  5. I voted none because.... If we trade Freddy Garcia or Javier Vacquez, it had better be for two good middle relievers because Brandon McCarthy would have to move into the rotation. Although McCarthy will become a starting pitcher next season, for at least this season, he brings a lot of flexibility to the bullpen, being able to pitch more than 1-2 innings, and also as a setup man from time to time. I don't want to lose that. Yes, Vazquez and Garcia, who are really our end of the rotation starters for now with Garland stepping up have struggled, but with our offense, and their ability to hopefully turn things around, I still believe they're going to hang in there, and give us innings, and more importantly, wins, down the stretch. I like the way the bullpen is coming together, Jenks closing the door, Cotts and Thorton from the left side, and McCarthy/Riske from the right side. Can it get better ? Absolutely - if Cotts (whose ERA has to be the most deceiving ERA on the staff) stops coming up into games, and giving up big hits with men already on base (and not counting against his ERA). We do still need one more veteran middle reliever, preferable a right hander, but I'll take anyone of quality right now. I do think we will be in the playoffs, meaning that Vazquez is likely to be in the bullpen as well.....
  6. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 11:30 PM) Nuke, have you read the article in question? Does it matter that the NYTimes couldn't find anything illegal in their disclosure of this information ? The point is that Democrats and Republicans were in the know on this secret program, there was no issue over the legality of it, and it was a tool in the War on Terror that can no longer be used because the NYTimes decided that everyone should know about it. I'm not suggesting that we should restrict the freedom of press. I am simply upset that the NYTimes used such poor judgment. Why release it if it's a legal program that both sides of the aisle were on board with ? What I want to know is who the leakers are.....This can't be tolerated.
  7. I say go after him....If Politte can't get his act together, Hernandez can take his innings.
  8. He doesn't seem to have much composure on the mound...I've seen it now in a few other starts where things are going ok for him for a few innings, one bad pitch, and he just falls apart mentally on the mound...
  9. If the Sox were to go after Smoltz, they would have to put a starting pitcher into the deal....and Atlanta would have to be able to take on salary - which I doubt they'd do considering if they are serious about dealing him, other teams would probably be offering prospects.
  10. QUOTE(SoxFan76 @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 08:17 AM) I've always thought CSN has been very fair in it's coverage, if not more biased towards the White Sox. I don't watch ESPN anymore, I only watch CSN. Even Chicago Tribune Live has a lot of good Sox coverage. They call it like it is. Sox are going to make the playoffs, they're making a run for another World Series, they deserve coverage. The Cubs suck, they're almost in last place, and even if all their guys return from injuries they're still a 3rd place team at best. That's all you can ask for, now why can't other media outlets do the same? They call it like it is ? Maybe they do most of the time, but they clearly dropped the ball here. Somebody made a decision not to cover this. Why ? I have no idea. It was THE STORY of a game that was over early for the White Sox.
  11. The Sox still view Brian Anderson as their long-term solution in center. Rather than acquire a big name like Hunter, they could seek a right-handed platoon partner for Rob Mackowiak — someone like the Phillies' Shane Victorino, a switch-hitter, or Orioles' Luis Matos ...
  12. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 10:36 AM) Quotes from Whitesox.com Personally I think he should shut his mouth and throw the ball better. You aren't throwing the ball well, so man up and do better. Quit being a crybaby. Exactly. If Garland pitches better, he won't hear the comments critical of his performance. Quite a concept, huh ?
  13. QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 10:37 AM) What would you say to this deal? Sox get: Ceasar Izturis and Kenny Lofton (or Jason Repko when Healthy) Dodgers get: Josh Fields If you can explain why the Dodgers would start looking at 2007, then you may have me... Otherwise, look at teams that may be looking to unload some talent come July...
  14. That report by Ofman was absolutely worthless. First off, I thought he was bounced by the Score as a baseball reporter. Secondly, he did nothing but bring up names (Soriano, Sanders and Clark) that have been floating around for a few days now. Third, he says the White Sox wouldn't be interested in Soriano and Sanders because of the $$$$.... Fourth, after all that, he says he believes the White Sox will focus on upgrading their bullpen first anyways, but he didn't offer up any ideas on what Kenny Williams may be thinking about other than his own personal opinion. I don't have a problem with Ofman - I'd rather hear his baseball thoughts as the "Score Baseball Beat Reporter" over Jesse Rogers, Zach Zaidman or Lawrence Holmes ANY day of the week, but this report offered NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm out
  15. I believe Bernstein said last season that the White Sox wouldn't win last season with Juan Uribe as their starting shortstop. (he may have been off by a year)
  16. A.J. being fined is just ridiculous. He got punched in the face! He didn't start the fight! (not that I feel bad for him losing some pocket money)
  17. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ May 26, 2006 -> 09:03 AM) Getting this second hand from another site but p/ the Score Barrett 10 games, Anderson 5 games, Cora 2 games, everyone else fined. So, after appeals, Barrett will get 6-8 games. Amazing that you can get a punishment reduced like that...
  18. The wildcard here is going to be Crede's contract demands, and, obviously, his agent Scott Boras. There's no doubt that the best case scenario is that the White Sox lock up Crede to a 4-5 year deal, but, given Boras' history, he may not be willing to talk long-term contract until after Crede hits free agency, which at that point, he would be most likely to go to the highest bidder. So, I think Kenny Williams is going to do what he can to try and sign him to an extension, but this could get interesting if Boras is asking for huge money. Also was interesting to see Josh Fields get moved to the OF - that does indicate the White Sox view, and are optimistic, that Crede is their long-term answer at 3B.
  19. Aren't Tyrus Thomas and Tyson Chandler similar big men ? Chandler's taller, but I don't see either as offensive weapons, moreso rebounding, and athleticism with the shot blocking, long arms ? I realize that Thomas just breathing makes him a better offensive player (hopefully he can also catch a basketball, unllike Chandler, who bobbles everything), but does this guy have the ability to become a good offensive option ?
  20. Does Guillen's relationship with Garcia make him more likely to sign a reasonable extension this upcoming offseason ??? If the answer is no, then I think Garcia is most likely to be traded. Garland would be the answer, but if he is going to be mediocre at best for $9 million a year for the next 2 seasons, it's going to be difficult to find a taker without eating 1/2 of that money. Buerhle, you'd think would be here forever as well, but like Garcia, if they can't work out a long-term deal, maybe Williams would consider him...I do think that Buerhle is the least likely to be moved though. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 23, 2006 -> 07:58 AM) He has Contreras-like upside. He's had some great starts. 3 of them though were against the Royals, maybe the most pathetic franchise in pro sports. He's had some good years, but really even with his stuff, playing on some lousy teams has rendered his career mediocre thus far. He's seems like a right handed Floyd Bannister to me. A guy with great stuff, who could be unhittable at times, and might have a great year or 2, but will never put it together to the point that you think that he couldn't or shouldn't have been better. If you look at game logs though, he's consistent in the fact that he twirls gems a lot, and has the occassional games were he gives up 7 runs. Vacquez, Guillen and Cooper just need to get on the same page. Vacquez has looked great in most of his starts through about 5 innings, and then just falls apart. I'm not sure if that's related to fatigue or mechanics....
  21. QUOTE(whitesoxin @ May 16, 2006 -> 05:06 PM) 1. It was a cheap shot. Burke was standing out of the basepath, Hunter went out of his way to knock him down. The play wasn't even close, all Hunter had to do was run by and be safe. I was at that game with a perfect angle on the play. Does it matter that you were at the game or I saw the replay 50 times ? Point is, that the White Sox WILL NOT be acquring him.
  22. QUOTE(Felix @ May 16, 2006 -> 02:28 PM) Uribe >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Cintron Even when he's not hitting. That's a ridiculous statement. If Uribe plays great defense, and hit's .180 this season, there's a good chance that he'll lose his starting job next season. This season, everything is going great - there's more than enough hitting right now to make up for his numbers, and we'll still waiting for the pitchers to get into a groove. I do believe that Uribe will get it going, and will finish in the .240-.260 range.
  23. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 16, 2006 -> 10:45 AM) Instead of dismissing this, I'd love to know who you think the Sox would target in a trade involving Pods and Uribe. There's no way during the season that Pods or Uribe are going anywhere. Sure, if Uribe just doesn't hit this season, I'm sure they will look at Cintron/elsewhere, but I think he'll get his average up to an aceeptable area. The White Sox have shown a willingness to increase payroll so if they did want to improve the bullpen (probably their only questionable spot outside of Jon Garland), they could use prospects to add another arm or two, plus middle relievers aren't the most expensive position to fill.
  24. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 16, 2006 -> 10:07 AM) Yep. And I see absolutely no reason to not pick that up right now. That would be my thought.
  25. QUOTE(That funky motion @ May 16, 2006 -> 09:59 AM) I like Citron but he is no Uribe with the glove. Lets remember what pos our skipper played,do you think he would put up with an OK fielding SS? I think Citron is going to play 2nd next year and Im fine with that. Don't the White Sox have an option on Iguchi ?
