  1. QUOTE(HSC's Biggest Fan @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 11:14 AM) Ok this may be the wrong place and if addressed somewhere I aplolgize but the following sources have stated over the past week that Rowand would be displaced by Griffey should he be brought in. Harrelson and DJ in response to an e-mail Bruce Levine Some nit wit from Sporting News Radio on the CLTV Round Table Sunday night ESPN dolts Many folks on this site. Should by some miracle of god we did get him he would fill the role Everett had when Thomas was here and Everett would fill the role Thomas had when Thomas was here with less at-bats then Frank. The OF'ers need a day off here or there and Timo is an embarrassment. Another injury and we are done, we will not play above .400 ball and out pitchers will be toast from the stress of having to throw a shut out everyday. In the game last night they talked of how NY was going to get him. If the cash is right they will get him. Although I did hear on the cub radio braodcast, first insightful thing ever, that the Reds were about to be sold and they did not want to risk the devaluation of the franchise by giving up Griffey. This may be who we are fighting for and why if the Yanks will eat the $$$ the will get him. I actually think Pods is an ideal DH as he can play everyday and run without tiring. This team is looking tired offensivly and there is nowhere to turn. Where is Pablo OZuna, I thought he was a fine spark but we haven't seen him in weeks again. Assuming that Rowand isn't part of a trade (I highly doubt that) -isn't it fair to assume that Ozzie would do what he's done all season - get all 3 of his OF's rest, and basically rotate them. So, Rowand may still be the primary CF, but Griffey would occasionally play there as well to give Rowand time off.
  2. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 09:08 AM) I think they will make a decision before the Sep 1st midnight deadline. If they can't get a bat to fill Frank's spot they will certainly bring someone up before that deadline to make him eligible for the post-season roster. We keep hearing Griffey Jr. to the White Sox as a possibility. Who else (veteran hitter specifically, maybe another pitcher) has at a chance to sneak through waivers ? Recently, I've heard Dmitri Young's name - I wouldn't be upset with him either, but has any other names come up (Please don't start throwing out names like Adam Dunn)...I guess I'm looking for the Larry Walker of this season.
  3. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 10:02 AM) The other thing about Griffey Jr is that HE must accept a trade to the team claiming him off waivers. Even if the Reds don't pull him off of waivers, Griffey Jr can still refuse a trade & remain with the Reds. Now I know the White Sox were mentioned as not being on his short-list but it was also rumored he did agree to be traded to them earlier. So hopefully while KGJ is in town this week Kenny has the welcome wagon out. As for a NL team passing him up I wouldn't be too sure about that. If you're the Padres you can pick him up now & still have the option of trading him in the off-season to an AL team. Because of KGJ's stature that option is pretty much always there for a team seeking to get out from under his contract. When are we going to start hearing who has cleared waivers ? For example, when was Griffey put on waivers, and how long would it take for him to get through?
  4. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 01:05 PM) I don't think so either. Also, wouldn't their payroll be around 300 million or close to it if they were to pick him up? I think the Yankees are right about $210, and GM Brian Cashman had basically said the Yankees are maxed out for what they could spend. Saying that, I wouldn't be shocked if George Steinbrenner picked up extra salary for the rest of the year, knowing that Bernie Williams wouldn't be back next season.
  5. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 12:34 PM) I don't think the Yankess would spend the $60 million or so. I really don't You could be right, but they won't be paying Bernie Williams next season.
  6. QUOTE(wsox08 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 01:26 PM) Yeah, why don't we get Boone and drop Iguchi? I'm sure that's what he was suggesting.... Boone is done, IMO - Minnesota gave him a 2nd chance, and it didn't work out there....Maybe he should try pitching for the Yankees.
  7. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 11:48 AM) 1)Dunn would get blocked by the first team in the waiver process. 2)If you think Griffey costs alot, then Dunn is going to give you a heartattack in what he's going to cost. 3)Dunn K's too much. That's the reason we want Griffey. We don't want inning ending K's. Griffey is a guy who could move guys over. Dunn is a better version of PK I suppose. I'd take Griffey over that anyday. We're not going to get a chance at a young player, not making a ton of money yet, like Adam Dunn. I agree that the price of Dunn will cost a lot more because he's younger/making less money, allowing the Reds to get a package without having to worry about getting less back because a team is taking on money (like would happen in a Griffey deal). If he's healthy, Griffey would fit in perfectly...I don't think the Yankees will let Griffey through either, but that's the type of player - aging with a lot of money left - who could get through.
  8. QUOTE(beck72 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 05:46 AM) Here are two other names of guys who'd have a pretty easy time getting through waivers, due to their contracts in '06: Ray Durham and Raul Ibanez I bet SF would pick up more than half of Ray's 2006 $7 mill salary. Putting him at Dh and giving Iguchi some time off at 2b wouldn't be the worst thing to get Ray's avg. and OBP in the lineup Ibanez would probably clear waivers, as he's basically a DH at this point. The Yanks and Boston wouldn't need him. Without the big power, Sea. having Ibanez at DH at $4.42 mill in '06 would seem to be excessive. Though on the sox, his avg. OBP and doubles would be a great fit. Esp as his hits RHP very well. SF might be relunctant to trade anybody since they want to be a contender with a healthy Bonds....We'll have to see on that one, but I wouldn't rule it out. Ibanez sounds like a decent fit. He's quietly having a nice season, and isn't overly expensive. Does he play the field at all anymore ?
  9. QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 11:36 AM) Gooch has a daughter, so good possibility he is married. Never seen Lisa Crede though, and she intrigues me. I bet Joe can pull some good talent. This thread is useless without pictures!
  10. What do these guys do ? I know you're not going to hear everything, everytime, but what exactly do these guys do besides check newspapers/message boards around the Internet for their information ??? This Griffey stuff is priceless...The report comes out, and both have been their stations since acting like it was something that they knew about, trying to sound 'on top' of the situation....
  11. QUOTE(soxfan3530 @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 11:57 PM) dont make moves just to make them. they have to help the team and this one doesn't. next. You're probably right, and I have to agree that Sele is most likely washed up, but I think it was at least worth the look.
  12. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 02:08 PM) What about Mike Gonzalez from Pittsburgh, he's awesome against lefties. He's on the DL right now but he's only 27 and making 330K this year, he's not even arbitration eligible yet!!!!1111 I'm sure the Pirates would trade him for Greg Norton, I heard they need a 3rd baseman. :rolly I don't think Pirates will trade with anyone but their divisional rival, cubbies....
  13. QUOTE(Finkelstein @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 01:58 PM) If Griffey does get to us in waivers, anyone think that Kenny puts a claim in? If he is that serious about getting him, and they think that Frank is done, why not? He can still try to get a trade done and if that doesn't happen then we keep the prospects and eat the money, that is if Cincy lets him go. If the original story is true, I don't see Kenny Williams trying to work out another trade with the Reds at this time at the expense of other possible moves he could make....He couldnt' get a deal done before, why not focus on other ones ?
  14. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 12:49 PM) I'd rather bet on Adkins, who, by the way, probably won't be near the playoff roster. Adkins probably won't be on the playoff roster unless he has an ERA below 3 with some significant innings....then they'd probably find a way to get him on, but chances of him pitching this good is about 2%
  15. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 01:23 PM) The Twins tried signing a Seattle cast off. How'd that work out? So Sele is washed up because Boone is ? Sele may be washed up, but not for that reason.
  16. Seattle cut Sele (6-12, 5.66 ERA) yesterday....Looks he may be just about done, but would he be worth a look (at the expense of Atkins) as a long man out of the bullpen ? He does have playoff experience, but would he better than Atkins, who struggled mightily as a starter in the minors?
  17. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 04:03 PM) ESPN Radio 1000 this morning, huh. I've actually heard that a few times over the weekend...but, yes, also on ESPN Radio 1000.
  18. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) Correct if they pass up the Twinks and take sole possession of second place. Which they would tonight if the Twins lose (Indians are off) since they're tied right now.
  19. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 03:49 PM) i really don't think this was the right move. I'm sorry but why not give him a chance to get his s*** straight in Charlotte. John Adkins stinks. Kenny Williams made several comments about wanting to do right by Shingo because of how well he pitched last season, so I think Shingo may have reconsidered his minor league stay, and asked to be released, and KW probably didn't want to stand in his way.
  20. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 03:45 PM) they couldn't call him up because i'm pretty sure you have to spend 10 days in the minors if you have been demoted before you can be called up. I remember hearing about it and that the only exception is an injury. Yeah, I think you are correct now that you bring it up.... Still something must have happened for this to have happened.
  21. The Twins and Orioles are the only 2 teams in MLB with a worse record each month....Twins are slowly falling out of the race, and Indians will probably surpass them.
  22. I wonder if his agent asked for a release after the Sox brought up Adkins....Maybe Shingo and the agent were thinking a call-up would be possible, but the Adkins move may have shown them how fall he had fallen in the organization.
  23. QUOTE(Balance @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 03:28 PM) Now that MIN and CLE are tied, it might soon have to be CLE losses we're tracking, not MIN.... Yeah, I don't think our magic number (currently 44 after the 6-3 win today) goes down if Minnesota loses because Cleveland take over 2nd place. Is that correct ?
  24. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 10:02 AM) I'm not too worried about it. Just trying to give his legs a rest. He's been in a mini-SB slump of late, and we don't have many off-days in the near future. We need to keep his legs as fresh as possible, so he can do what he does best. Pods was seen on TV Saturday during the game having a long conversation with trainer Herm Schnieder - just speculation, but maybe he has a minor injury ?
