What I like about Webb is he throws 97 but is a pitcher not thrower. -

Just turned it on to see Jose's 2nd homer. Abreu is a bad bad man. How deep was the one to CF? Thome blackout game or barely over? -

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 4, 2014 -> 09:45 AM) Sox are 3rd in MLB in OPB, 1st in SLG, and T-1st in HR. Like wite said..I don't expect them to be prolific all year, but I do like the 3rd in OBP. If they can even get to the middle of the pack on that this year they would give themselves so many more opportunities to score runs. The problem last year is no one was ever on base. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 04:27 PM) Abreu murdered that. It seems like everything he hits is hard...it is quite remarkable really. Even ones off the end of the bat or jam shots are rockets. Once it heats up I expect some off the end of the bat homers. -

On the MLB audio box score they show all 3 runs as unearned. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 02:16 PM) alright, lets forget this crap inning and go out and tack a run back on them or two or 10 After all the no decisions and that crap inning that is least they can do for Q. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 01:38 PM) I think Ricky probably knows this is a problem and will be keeping an eye out for a fit. The fact that the Sox have an open DH slot next year could help with this problem; Andy Wilkins or possibly Dan Black could get a look later in the season if Dunn is moved out of the way and either of them performs at AAA well enough to merit a callup. If not, Victor Martinez and Kendrys Morales are guys who could potentially fill that role short-term next year Ideally it would be someone in our organization, but I doubt Wilkins or Black is the answer. VMart or Morales are interesting options. I feel as though you solve this before catcher if possible....unless a lefty catcher is the option.

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 01:31 PM) Each fan in the stands should take a turn every half inning. But they would need at least 17 PA announcers. Can the fans cover that? -
I think that having either Semien or Gordo in the 2 hole is fine. The bigger problem is a left-handed (or switch-hitting) 3 hitter. Obviously one does not exist on this team, but if they had that it would just set the lineup so nicely. And no Conor Gillaspie is NOT the answer to this problem. Sorry to hijack the thread but with this one piece I think it really makes the lineup so much more formidable. I know this isn't a novel idea, but man would it be nice. Eaton Gordo/Semien **Lefty/Switch Hitter** Abreu A Garcia De Aza/Viciedo Alexei/Semien Davidson/Gillaspie Catcher abyss Are there any Brandon Moss/Dan Vogelbach type guys that we can pick from someone's minor leagues for a package with Alexei or something and put Semien at SS? Not looking for a superstar...just maybe a guy that can hit lefty or switch-hit and play some DH/1B. Or are there some FA's to be next year who fit that bill? Or even RF/LF/DH rotation of 3 players. De Aza/Garcia/(another lefty or switch hitter)

Had to go to a meeting...after the inning where Paulino was walking everyone, how has he looked? -
Nicely done. I think you nailed it on the head at the end of your article. They want both players, so Nieto has to make the MLB roster to do so. Also, he is a switch hitter, which helps this predominately right-handed lineup. I look forward to seeing how he does in a limited role this year...if that impedes his growth like you suggest it could.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 15, 2014 -> 11:06 PM) I've watched 3 innings and I'm tired of Hawk already. That's not good. I honestly had to turn off the sound. It was unlistenable. If it is possible he has gotten worse.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 6, 2014 -> 09:42 PM) I think his delivery is fine. He has good trunk flexion and flexibility. One reason it looks a little funny is that he doesn't stride straight. His front foot lands too far closed than normal, so it looks like he is spinning a bit. As for the weight, "Lady, I ain't no athlete i'm a baseball player." If the kid can throw he can throw. The development of the secondary pitches is the concern. It looks like he drops a little on the off speed stuff. If someone thinks he can be taught it, I'd take him. Good analysis. I am sure they have Coop watch all these kids on tape and get his input and would be involved in the interview process to determine if they can be taught. I trust their scouting of pitching. Hitting is a different story.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 6, 2014 -> 03:42 PM) Abreu homer Damn. I wish that was the streamed game.

Liddi with a bomb. Line drive homer.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 4, 2014 -> 02:49 PM) Abreu getting a lot of love from the Indians broadcasters. I was just going to say the same thing. I like that he smoked it to RF for a double...don't have enough guys in this lineup that can do that.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Mar 4, 2014 -> 02:23 PM) 3 up, 3 down for Erik Johnson. I think he is going to be really important for success of this team in the next few years. Our best pitchers are lefties so we need some righties to step up and hopefully take the next step.

Weird thing is that it worked fine last year..not sure what the deal is.
