QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 12:36 PM) Well, keep in mind that there are 3 possibly outcomes, not 2 here. So the odds are more like 33.3 % in a sweep. Then you add in the conservative nature in the way the bullpens are usually managed - most managers will manage more safely in the first game to avoid running through their entire bullpen, and I think it leads to more splits. Most managers seem to almost manage for a split. And also think about the Sox situation. They are going to play 14 games in 13 days. This isn't like any other sport where you more than likely are going to have a day off within the next couple of days. Of course you always want to try to win today, but you still have to be conscious about how the next 13 days will go.

DH Gamethread 2: White Sox (60-45) vs Tigers (52-53) 6:05PM CDT

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 02:43 PM) Edited the channel, sorry if I got anyones hopes up with Comcast, its gonna be a WCIU night The fuzzy channel blows. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 02:34 PM) Vlad had a great career while rarely walking. I am going to have to agree with you on this one. He isn't swinging waaaay out of the zone and HIS zone is probably pretty big, much like Vlad. His pitch recognition is actually really good for a 21 year old kid in his 2nd year of pro ball. I think someone mentioned it in this thread earlier, we will see what happens when the scouts catch up to him and he starts to see pitches near his eyes and in the dirt. Then we will really see what we have. If he is able to lay off those, then we could have something special.

Good win. Let's hope we saved some runs for the 2nd game. Played both small ball and long ball. And a Juan Pierre homer! Didn't think we would see one of those.

What the heck do they players do on a split DH? They will have like 3:30 hours between the 2 games. XBox/PS3 tournament? -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 01:48 PM) Quick Pitch on Sunday nights might be my favorite show of the week. I love the series recaps, and I especially love it when the Sox have a good weekend. Agreed. The series recaps are amazing. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 01:45 PM) Yeah I have MLB Network on basically all the time, particularly during the evening once the Sox game ends/before it starts. Looks like I will be on fangraphs a lot as I watch it from now on. My wife complains I have MLB Network on too much. I love that channel. Their live look-ins are awesome. Danny Sac is pretty decent as well. -

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 01:31 PM) I think his high error count as compared to other guys in the AL like Jeter/Izturis will hurt him in the end. He clearly deserves it, as he has been simply amazing out there, but voting for this award is horrible. How does Jeter even get votes? He has no range over there. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 01:22 PM) It's the 2010's though now...are you calling the full "Millennium"? And you're forgetting some of the guys from the early part of the decade. David Wells, Royce Clayton have to be up there. Also, Mackowiak wasn't that bad. He was misused as a CFer. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 01:11 PM) Really, he probably does. The right move is to give Viciedo probably 1/2 the at bats in a platoon right now...when you see a RHP with an ERA >5, give it to Viciedo, when you see a LHP, give it to Viciedo, when you see Justin Verlander in there, hide him. Ha...I like the just hide him. I guess that makes sense, I just am tired of seeing Kotsay out there. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 01:08 PM) Vs. left in the minors: .364 average, .800 Slugging, 1.226 OPS. Vs. right in AAA: .268 average., .741 OPS. Well I guess that answers my question, but does he have more of a chance of getting a hit than Kotsay against righties? -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 01:05 PM) Miggy is now 0 for 14 against Buehrle. Interesting. That is almost hard to believe. We think we have problems with our lineup...with all the injuries this Tiger one looks pretty sad. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 12:59 PM) Facing all righties in this series, so Kotsay will be a busy man. Yay. Why is Ozzie so afraid of having Viciedo face righties? Were his minor league splits that awful against righties? I wouldn't consider Porcello, Bonderman and Galarraga righties you need to protect him from. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 12:53 PM) Maybe Leyland shouldn't bat a nobody in the third spot, that might be a good idea... Why Cabrera isn't in the 3rd spot is a mystery to me. That is even dumber than batting Kotsay 5th....wait maybe not. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 12:25 PM) BTW, Ozzie should have mixed the lineups up a little bit tonight. Assuming he benches Kotsay, Viciedo, and AJP in the 2nd game, we'll have a lineup full of righties (against a pitcher who's slider is much tougher on righty hitters). I would think Viciedo plays the 2nd game. Can Omar play both ends of a DH?
