  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 10:48 PM) I'm pretty sure Abreu is the only person with more strike outs looking than Pods over the last decade. Adam Dunn has to be pretty high up on that list as well.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 10:43 PM) Also the A's for most of the decade, the Angels (although they have a big budget), Twins, Brewers and the Rangers have really become an interesting organization. Of course, the model for all teams to emulate is the Schuerholz/Atlanta Braves model. Good point. All of those teams draft really well. As do the Red Sox. But I was really just mentioning teams that had little to no budget. The Rays have increased theirs over the years a little bit.
  3. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 10:37 PM) He was but to be fair... the Pirates organization (well at that time) was one of the laughing stocks (and internally) in the MLB in regards to their drafting philosophy. He was a pretty good prospect though. Probably why they have no winning season's since the early 90's. The Rays, Marlins and now the Reds have shown you CAN build a good team through the draft and a couple of smart trades.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 10:35 PM) Yes, he was highly regarded. He played on a lot of Team USA-esque teams while in college. Wasn't he a decently high pick as well?
  5. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 10:31 PM) Putz last gave up a run May 7th, and today is July 7th?? Back end of this bullpen can just be scary for opposing teams. If only Peavy didn't get hurt and we had 1-2 more hitters...we would be in contention.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 10:30 PM) McAnulty has one home run this year, and he has struck out in every other AB. Wow. Did he change his name from Brandon Wood?
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 10:28 PM) Me neither...see what you can get for Flowers, Danks, Holmberg, Morel, etc. With Peavy's unknown status...I don't think KW can trade Hudson. Might turn out to be a blessing in disguise at this point. Instead of the homerun player...I still say we should go after just a middle of the road guy...ala LaRoche so we don't have to play Kotsay. We don't have the deep system to give up. We will need Hudson and Viciedo next year.
  8. QUOTE (IamtheHBOMB @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 10:27 PM) For so long, it pissed me off that randoms from the Twins minor league system would come up and make an immediate impact. It feels awesome to be on the opposite end of that. I was actually thinking the same thing. If Lillibridge did this kind of thing for the Twins we would be like...who the heck is this guy and how is he just hitting it all over the yard?
  9. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 10:25 PM) I was just saying earlier this month that Lillibridge gets way too much s*** on this board. Just saying. I know it was a small sample size last year...but he did look like he had no clue up there.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 10:20 PM) Said it yesterday, and couldn't agree more. He has fantastic pitch recognition. Who needs walks when you can RAKE.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 10:23 PM) I think we all gave up Lillibridge for dead and never believed we'd see him in a White Sox uniform again. Or that they might intentionally walk or pitch around Lillibridge to get to Beckham EVER? Agreed. He has actually looked like a major league hitter these last couple of weeks. He won't continue to hit .429 but he could end up being at worst a valuable bench/utility guy.
  12. Seriously...who thought that both Viciedo and Lillibridge would be contributing right now and we would be like 1 game out of 1st?
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 10:10 PM) Really leading a charmed life tonight....3 errors, Garcia going against a guy who has dominated the White Sox for most of his career, yet still have the lead, you know things are going well. It's almost like everything that went poorly the first 2 months has been reversed by the baseball gods. You also look at the lineup and you wonder how we win any games really.
  14. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 09:57 PM) The Boozer deal is actually around 75-76 mil and not 80 like reported, meaning they have enough for one max deal. Later in the day we found out the cap is 58 mil, above speculations so we have even more money to play with. Thanks for clarifying. Do you think Boozer and D Rose can do enough to sway Lebron in 1 day?
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 09:54 PM) That inning ended quickly...I hate the bunt I was never an Ozzie-hater...but I think he needs to manage in the NL. He loves giving up outs. Does he think it is 1982?
  16. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 09:49 PM) Bull signed Boozer? One thing I don't get is I have seen on ESPN one time they said they would have to clear cap space to get Lebron and on later on, on the bottom line it said they still have money for another max deal. So which is it?
  17. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 09:52 PM) I can't believe how horrible he is at bunting. It blows my f***ing mind. Ha. You would think that it is one of the 2 skills he would be able to bring to the table.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 09:50 PM) Beckham swinging with authority tonight, and has a great approach! Hit-and-run time Ozzie Good to hear. Can't watch this week...on the Left Coast.
  19. Is someone warming up..or is Pena coming out for another inning?
  20. Just hopped on board...glad to see Peavy not too seriously hurt. Was Q a late scratch?
  21. Not sure what Washington would argue there. Looked pretty cut and dry to me.
  22. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 09:10 PM) Randy Williams only had 3 outings this season where he went at least 1 inning and allowed 1 baserunner or less. Threets already has 2. That is what you call bad by Randy Williams.
  23. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 08:18 PM) We have 19 hits in this series: 18 singles, and a bloop double by Kotsay. In the 3 games in KC, we had 26 hits: 20 of which were singles. So overall on the trip, we have 45 hits, 38 of which are singles. That sounds like a losing road trip to me.
